As a kid I owned several of these when they 1st came out. So awesome to see this video
It was an awesome truck to try out for sure!
The outlaw is the favorite Tyco RC... I have a black one mint in box, 2 reds and a 1998 recolored blue turquoise ! You made a good video but I was hoping to see a wheelie...😉
I actually had no idea that the engine was designed for that! I will have to make an update.
I was waiting for the wheelie too. I had one of these when I was a kid and I remember putting the boost engine on it in low range and pulling wheelies in the living room with it. The good ole days
thanks for sharing this back in the early 90's i got this as a christmas gift and my baby brother ran it thru the ice killed it dead lol but hes no longer with us sure was a trip down memory lane
Oh no! haha! Yeah thats a bummer. Glad you liked the video
wow this brings me back me an my older brother years ago had the red an black outlaw as kids they were so much fun thank you for the video
My pleasure. They are really great little things.
Wow this was my very first RC car back in 1993, suddenly stop working and i wish i still have to fix it :) Is nice to see this unboxing and rolling so many nostalgic memories.
I am glad you liked it. It was a cool car to try out!
sick! memories were flowing back!
Haha! Glad to hear it!
Taken me back... I grew up off all the Tyco rigs. The bandit and fasttrax we're my favorites.
My too. they are some of the best RC's ever made.
Same here, I had this one, the rebound, python, and the scorcher. Rebound was my favorite.
I got one of these when I was 5. It was my favorite toy for years, mostly because of the big engine. And I was facinated by batteries and electronics.
Also I remember the tires being hard rubber.
BTW, the truck is faster with the NiMh than with alkaline because the voltage of the alkaline battery drops significantly more than NiMh under a load.
It is remarkably quick! I also had no idea it was supposed to pop wheelies
This thing at recess was the best, and with the extra battery it would do wheelies thanks I couldnt recall the name.
Yeah I can imagine!
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! been waiting for this vid!
Oh im glad to hear!
but it's good to see that there is such a nice little car. nice evening
Thank you. It is fun to drive.
i had this the fast traxx turbo hopper and the hovercraft my god i.miss my.childhood now the 90s were the best
Man all great cars to have!
That Bandit is sweet. That's the one i had as a kid. Im still mad at my neighbors dog that crushed it. Thanks for the nostalgia. Cheers
Awe man! I had a neighbors dog shred a body on my Hornet....horrible.
@@AMPROEngineering But the dog owner must replace the things that his/her dog destroyed, mustn't he?
rc guy you would think so.
@@AMPROEngineering Sorry Alberto, but I don't understand what you want to say...
I'm from Germany and, although my English is relatively good, I don't understand sayings or if that was something like that...
@@AMPROEngineering There's also another mystery....
You said you used to be a team driver for Novak, but there aren't any information about you as a team driver....
OH and by the way, do you have ancestry coming from Mexico?
I always wanted a Bandit, but got a turbo hopper "Heads up" drove it till the wheels fell of. Next was an RC10T, still have it today 20+ years later. Maybe instead of saying "Toy Grade" One could consider them as "transitional" as that is what happens to most of us that get hooked on the hobby.
Those heads up cars were super tool too though!
oh i thought this was the bandit. But still it is a buyers guide vid witch i love!
Thank you!
Tyco was great for the slot car tracks too
Oh yeah! I have the super dare devil cliffhangers glow in the dark set with a jump! Now thats good playing.
I had the Baja bandit in 1992 it was the one that was in between the turbo Bandit and just the regular Bandit it came with six double a batteries I believe and then I got the outlaw in 1993 I did like that one a lot only problem was it flipped over a lot LOL
Oh yeah! There was another one wasnt there!
@@AMPROEngineering yes it was called the jet Bandit it took six double a batteries
I modified mine about 6 months ago that I've had since brand new. Installed a ESC and steering servo, made the booster pack into the power supply and took out the lead weights that were in the booster. Thing goes much quicker now and even wheelies. Thing hasn't worked for lots of years
I bet it works so much better!
Why would you bother to do that... Keep these little gems original... It's good enough as it is... If you want speed... Buy a modern car... I hate people who put brushless in Tamiya grasshoppers...
@@RadiCalRaCer last time it worked was late 90s and it has sit since then because of a dead motherboard or controller and I've lost the controller anyways. I've probably have had it for almost 30 years now
I have an original Tyco Scorcher (the 6 wheel thing) and am trying to perform a full restore. Do you know of anywhere that sells the decals for it? Or even just decals that have the TYCO logo?
Jeez...closest I know is mciracing.ca They do offer some Tyco decal sheets for the Bandit and maybe a few others. I have the Bandit sheets and they are very nice.
Do you know what size motor they come with? I have the jet baja Bandit and want to upgrade mine.
No clue but I would not upgrade it. These transmissions are very weak as is.
When are you going to do a buyers guide on the super fast traxx?
Its on the list but I have no radio for mine.
The bed engine is so heavy (and likely some kind of pot metal) so allow the weight in the rear so it can do the advertised wheelies.
I heard about that recently. That is super cool!
The chrome is plastic but there's actually two thumb sized slugs of heavy barstock seated in a pocket at the very back of the engine for wheelie ballast.
totally with ya, I just wasn't a Tyco-Nikko fan. for straight up gift to a small one, I'd "ruin it" rewiring the battery trap to hold a pair of 14500 (AA size) lithium ion cells because it's such an easy and convenient 2S 7.4v that'd pop right in it. 4 of those cells and a charger might cost 6-7 bucks, once! buying a set of alkalines for it could cost that much, so why not?
Exactly. Alkalines were way too much...
In the Outlaw in particular you should be able to run a jumper in the main battery tray and the 2 Li cells in the "engine" for even better wheelies
Very cool man!!
Thank you!
Holy crap. I remember this thing
Yeah I know a lot of people that forgot about them but man, what a trip!
What a little beast lol. Awesome videos. Do you know where I can find one of these?
EBay is your best bet
Hi.
I have the same but the same 4x4 since 1993,but the motor and pinion are dead.
You know where to have the same motor... please ? Thank you very much
Man I wish I did. If you get the dimensions you can probably source one. I am on the Tyco and Nikko FB page and those guys know everything.
Wow :P I had a Micro Bandit! :P Funny little car with a scale King Cab body :P
Yes! They also looked great.
Nice video and write up just sub to your channel👍🏻 I just picked up a Tyco Hi Jacker in good working condition. I wanna replace the tires are the size the same as the Tyco bandit hypothetically? Or any other alternative replacement?
Thank you! The Hi-Jacker is totally cool. Far as I know, they are proprietary but I am no expert.
I've restored a few Tycos. All the vehicles with the oval "4 stud" rears and the "3 stud" fronts use the same tires and so does the Outlaw sprint car - fronts are tread pattern but still fit.
The transmissions and wheels are cross compatible too although not necessarily the a arm assembly itself.
I thought this was going to be the size of the bandit I had to look this up on UA-cam to see how the extra engine made it faster I wasn't sure if there was extra batteries in it or if it changed it from parallel to series
yes its small. I show the two extra batteries in the "engine" here. Its a cool idea. What I did not know is that the weight of the engine is there on purpose, you should be able to pop a wheelie!
I had a red one when I was a kid.
You're missing the supercharger on top of that engine block, it should have a scoop.
Also the engine is made from plastic, it has a metal counterweight inside so that when you accelerate it wheelies :)
Oh is that whats missing! It is supposed to wheelie! No kidding?! Time for an update!
AMPRO Engineering yep, you reverse and then hit the throttle to pop a wheelie.
Ill have to give that a go!
How can i connect it to a new remote
You cannot. Only the remote model that came with it.
Is this still available this was my favourite toy growing up can I purchase it from you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Oh sorry, long gone!
You are missing the air-intake on the top of the engine 😕
Is that what went there!
I had the black one
They both looked great!
$40.00 in 1993 had the same buying power as $69.49 in 2018
Wow.
Not that much..
It's a shame that it's not a 9.6V. This is a mini version. A 9.6V turbo Outlaw would have a lot better performance, more like that Bandit. Did they even make a 9.6 V outlaw?
Man it would have been a missile! I do not think they did.
No they never made a 9.6V Outlaw, but therein lies the problem. The whole idea behind the Outlaw was the engine in the back with the extra batteries. Were it using a 9.6V battery pack from the outset, what then would provide the extra power? Wouldn't make much sense to have a toy use a battery pack, and then still require it to use additional, regular batteries
Wow that IS fast for a "toy grade"(I hate that tearm to)
Considering the size too. This is tiny!
Out law slow I had it when I was a kid it was disappointing and sucked batteries
Yeah im sure it drained them.
