Tanks are still the mainstay of armies on a budget. Especially when they may not have the facilities to maintain mechs. Plus you get a lot of dakka on tabletop for not much BV
I love battletech so much, god i love battletech soooo much, I have to just squint and make laalalala noises when you look at the tech in the setting, and wonder why the hell do people even bother with battlemechs when you could take the best parts of them, and make heavily armored and armed tanks that cost half as much or less and give you the same combat power as all but the largest mechs.
Tanks can't climb up a sheer mountain face, handle relatively delicate objects without dismounting, engage in hand to hand combat, or go from shooting directly over many terrain features to almost matching the low profile by belly crawling. Plus you have to train, feed, and pay all those tank crews just to have them slaughtered by four mechwarriors. Tanks are also less compartmentalized, so they are destroyed more catastrophically, they are salvageable less often, and their crews die more often. Mechs have ejection systems to save the pilot even when the mech is almost totally destroyed, while tanks often have crew members die from repairable damage. Being less compartmentalized means tanks are also more vulnerable to lucky hits from light anti-armor weapons and thus need more infantry support in many situations. Once you are past the initial buy-in of producing and maintaining tech like fusion engines, endosteel frames, and myomer bundles, Mechs offer much more bang for the C-bill; matching the combat power of a single lance of mechs with conventional forces means maintaining an order of magnitude more equipment and supporting several orders of magnitude more troops, all of which will be lost much faster in the event of actual conflict. To say nothing of capabilities that no amount of conventional forces will ever offer. Battletech is an extremely industrialized setting and the big factions have zero issues eating the difference in material costs to make their forces more capable on a ton-for-ton basis with less waste of human resources. I get the feeling you didn't actually pay much attention to the setting itself.
When it comes to cheap units tanks always surface. Once you start putting in fusion engines their main advantage starts to decline. Simple ICE engine designs shine. If there was an AC10 variant of the hetzer out there it would rule! In our group of players, we always joke about Militia, Merc, or Pirate units with waves of cheap tanks as having Kwik-sell one speed dial. (They manufacture Hetzer and Scorpion tanks.)
As always grim another great video the 2nd, 4th & 5th tanks are definitely my favourites really liked the look of the last one as that very much had that future tank warfare look. Can I ask though what is the tank in the first picture before the demon tank? That looks really cool as well.

The current Rule Set has a lot of Combined Arms in Total Warfare and Tactical Operations. Most of my Units in Megamek have more vehicles and infantry than mechs in the early game.
im the first to mock tanks and conventional vehicles in the battletech universe(because inside even the smallest mech they are little more then bugs to be stomped) but i do like the designs especially the vehicles that have multiple guns in a single turret it just looks so badass
Don't laugh at bigger tanks like the Rommel/Patton, Von Luckner, Demolisher series and the Alacorn. Those vehicles will make short work of mechwarriors who get too cocky.

Makes sense they are cheaper and more readily available since in the Battletech timeline, they'd already been around for over 1000 years.

I don't know if you've been informed in the intervening year, but the Hetzer *does* have an AC/10 variant. Look it up on Sarna.
