A very unique recipe with the "Keto" bannock. Again I'm thinking that if you were to put together a keto recipe book for backcountry users, that you would find perhaps a small overall, but a rather enthusiastic and willing market for the product.
So, I have been giving it some thought. After I accumulate more experience I may consider putting together a book. Currently, I am trying to find light weight, shelf stable keto backpacking recipes. Thanks for the encouragement Lonnie
You're a real culinary genius here...I learned the pine tree is super edible this year...that was happy news as I live in Canada and it makes wilderness survival that much easier. This video IS great, good content!
Bannock?. Made my first one with almond flour. Turned out great! On this keto diet it real helps to have a "bread" (type) to fill the void. Great with eggs and bacon! Thank you for the video Mark! Can't wait to try it in the woods.
Mmm Mmm Canada Day Just Got A Whole Lot Better With A New Post From You, Mark, Sure Looked Great Washed Down With A Freah Cup Of Rampage, Life Is Good ! Happy Canada Day Friend ! Hi Gina ! ATB T God Bless
Great content Mark! Find yourself a cast iron simmering plate, typically about 6 inches in diameter. My wife uses it when making sauce and places under the pot and over the burner to keep the sauce from burning or sticking. Anyhow, put that in the bottom of your baking vessel and it will defuse the heat to prevent burning and also act as a thermal mass.
No spruce here or even close to Dallas. But I hope you enjoy and thanks for the video. Thanks for the mention of monk fruit. I've heard of it but I've never heard an endorsement from someone I trust. The bannock looks good.
I am sure there must be something you could substitute into the bannock. Yes, I have tried a few no-carb sweeteners and found the monk fruit with erythritol to be the best. Thanks for commenting
Best of health. I am forced to see food differently. I always ate little portions, at the same time, I was consuming the wrong foods with the wrong oils. My body just didn’t want to function I went from 110lbs what 49kg to 92.3lb 42kg. I had a bunch of test done and doctors were playing stupid trying to feed me pills. I went home threw away everything in my refrigerator and started over and until today I feel great. I am my own doctor I wish I could eliminate a pill that is keeping me alive so I can be free, but until then I will keep doing what I am doing. My favorite is also Ghee, EVOO, coconut oil and avocado oil. Many people say, “healthy food is expensive”; I say it’s more expensive going to the doctors and buying all the pills they want a person to take. It’s more expensive having to take supplements because of eating crap. Sometimes I don’t understand the logic of a human being. Keep on going, Sir! Happy ⛺️
Have you ever tried chickpea flower? It's also low carb, and it gives that elastic, sticky texture that flower has. Unfortunately it gives a fair amount of flavour too, but adding just a bit will help stuff hold together.
I have some in my freezer that I harvested last year and vacuum sealed. They are still good. Drying them will work but you may loose some of the flavour over time. Thanks for commenting

I think the same Lonnie.
Using the kettle in that way similar to a "Dutch Oven", is a neat idea.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting
Good tip, using psyllium husk as an egg substitute! 👍🏼
I use it in most of my keto breads. It makes a big difference. Thanks for commenting

Right on. I can see how the cast iron would work great, as long as you don't mind carrying the weight. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Yep, it does add some weight. Steve at FB stove is developing a small pizza stone that’ll do the same thing.

Almond or coconut flour with a dash of xanthan gum does the same. Xanthan acts as a non-gluten gluten.
I have been playing with a few different flours and other ingredients, Have not used chickpea yet. Thanks for commenting Jim
Thank you for making these videos. Do spruce tips dry well for use later in the year?
