- Robert Jenrick and Kemi Badenoch will go head-to-head in the final heat of the Conservative Party leadership contest, after James Cleverly was knocked out in the latest round of voting.
Former home secretary Mr Cleverly was eliminated in Wednesday’s ballot of Tory MPs, following Tom Tugendhat who was knocked out on Tuesday.
Ms Badenoch won 42 votes and Mr Jenrick 41 votes, to Mr Cleverly’s 37 votes in the latest ballot, with 120 Tory MPs having taken part.
The final round of the contest will now see Conservative Party members across the UK vote to select the successor to Rishi Sunak.
The result will be announced on November 2.
Ms Badenoch and Mr Jenrick are both seen as candidates favoured by the right of the Conservative Party, while Mr Cleverly was thought of as a more centre-ground Tory.

So glad Cleverly is out, I have never trusted him.
They're as bad as each other.
I don't trust anyone in politics. They all lie and there all out to feather their own nest.
Cleverly had the chance of giving the party a broader appeal, and this a path back to power. The risk is that both Jenrick and Badenoch will appeal to the base, maybe win back some Reform voters - but less likely to us back into number 10 in 5 years.
@@1985indeed What idiots don't understand is you have to compromise on things, it's not considered a "betrayal" to compromise on certain things. Ultimately Reform will never win unless they appeal to a wider base and Cons won't win unless they do the same. Labour have their left wing base but are able to attract people from both sides. That's why they won and will likely win again.
He was the only credible candidate in it. Now you're left with Dumb and even Dumber.
Jenrick has only changed his attitude to become leader,he will revert to type.
makes no difference the tories will still be the right wing of the labour party
Whoever it is will have to return to true conservatism to even have the remotist chance of governance. However, the could get on by default as Labour did because this current clownshow is truly awful.
No matter the leader the party stinks
Jenrick should have never stood for leader.
1)Twice he broke the lockdown laws that HE agreed to.
2) As Housing Minister he overruled the Westminster Planning Department to allow Richard Desmond - a rich CON Party donor - build multimillionaire £ flats with NO SOCIAL HOUSING ONES & bypass a law so Desmond did NOT pay £150 m in tax he should have paid to the Treasury.
3) he tried to claim £3k pcm for a 3rd property in Newark which he rarely used.
He was sacked as Hsng Minister in 2021. NOT TO BE TRUSTED IMO.
yes indeed.. i really dislike Jenrick..
Oh what a terrible loss. Not. 😂😂😂
cleverly out not very clever was he
Nope but he was favourite, too left wing like Labour.
Too incompetent at all ministerial positions he held.
@@ruthcollins2841 Doesn't that sum up ALL of them...?
IMO, the two best candidates are through. I hope Badenoch becomes leader, since she is the only one promising a thorough review of the Conservative Party; a party that has demonstrated over many years that it doesn't know what it's for. As a Reform supporter myself, Cleverly would have been the best candidate for our fortunes. Jenrick and Badenoch will offer more of a challenge, especially as they move to the right. One suspects that some form of understanding would have to emerge on the right for electoral success.
They had no choice but to move right. Reform decimated them and meant they had 121 seats instead of 230 seats as a minimum. So not moving right would have killed them off. To me it doesn’t matter what the policies are it’s the person selling it. Reagan springs to mind and certainly thatcher
If you don’t have a base you can’t win anyway that’s at least something they’ve grasped
If Kemi cant do something then the Conservatives are finished.
The tory membership are 100% no way ever going to elect Kemi, because they are massive racists, the brown washing has failed again, and the tories are an incompetent bunch of idiotic ideologues.
These are the people that ran Britain onto the ground based on their disgusting misunderstanding of history.
They should never be returned to power.
Facts!
She's a complete idiot, so they're finished the moment they put her in charge. Just laughable if that happened. Tories would be in power for a very long time.
He's not so cleverly now
Robert Jenrick to be voted in.
👍
These are the best 2 candidates
i know things are really really bad scraping the barrel comes to mind
@@oldshiny3012can’t be any worse then sly Starmer and shady Rayner!!
Piss poor if you ask me. This country is doomed.
This is so incredibly underwhelming.
A black Maggie ? Who'd a thunk it ? As for Generic - all things to all people and nothing to anybody.
absolutely.. that'll stick it to the left
Please don't insult her memory like that. Badenoch is a clueless clown. How on earth she got to where she is most of us have no clue. Token candidates is one thing, but her... Jesus wept.
@@luciussander8217Jesus is black. Now weep.
@@luciussander8217 stop it. token what.. u mean you can't be black and have brains? you clearly have none. ere are good candidates and bad ones. colour doesn't and shouldn't come into it. The world does not need meretricious views like yours
I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds, but lets be real. Badenoch is the only chance the Tories have of snuffing out Reform.
Jenrick is another Cameron, Kemi is the best of the lot, but i fear she will not do very much if elected as PM. She will swing to the left, and nothing will change.
Wefservatives are Finished 😂😂😂
You've just brightened up my day I thought the fix was in the two best candidates are up against each other the Tory Party just got interesting again😊
Vote Reform
I reckon this could be a betting coup. MPs with 5 years in opposition...they could have a few leaders before the next election. So do they really give a toss. Get together, have a chin-wag and equally vote for the two that are similar in views. Sounds like a nice little tickle to me. They could even get to have another bash at this next year.
Kemi sounds like a real person and not another pompous stuffed shirt.
That hit "lets be normal" phrase by Cleverly was poached from the US campaign - not sure which party.
my prediction came right should have put a bet on. KEMI the next Maggie
Socialist Kemi isn't fit to be Maggie is the one and only Iron Lady!!👍🏻👍🏽👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
DO NOT INSULT the memory of Thatcher like that.
why would anybody vote for a party that accidentally eliminates a candidate that they want to keep in ?
If Kemi gets voted in I will vote reform
Dangerous, very dangerous
Should just put Starmer in, he's more Tory than most Tory MPs
Male zombie vs female zombie. Can someone add an explanation for the male/ female reference in case any MPs are watching, I can't be bothered.
Tory and Labour had their chips, bye bye😊
Remember that the leader of the dark arts is Michael Gove and he is behind Kemi, so maybe not a surprise that MPs lefty Tugenhadt for Kemi and Jenrick as well as a couple of Clevery MPs
And we can be thankful for Gove in this instance.
It’s going to be Badenoch. Woman’s already been part of the worst British government in history doesn’t wash for me.
Nope, second worse. Starmer's Govt is worse. By far.
Elizabeth 1 & 2, Victoria & Eleanour of Aquitaine, Elizabeth 1, Victoria & Elizabeth 2 were heads of England/ Britain who did a better job than any male heads of the country have ever done. Thatcher better than her predecessors and successors on both sides of Parliament, Betty Boothroyd the best Speaker of the House of Commons in the last 65 years too. ALL FEMALES😊
@@ruthcollins2841 Why did you have to turn it into a gender issue? He never said she shouldn't lead because she's a woman? This relentless gender and identity bull is beyond tiresome.😔
@@andyquelch5754Starmer is well on his way
What an earth happened to cleverly
No to wef puppets yes to reform
I really hope Generic wins, as that will mean the Tories could be finished forever.
And still, who cares?
If you vote traitor Tories AGAIN after the last 14 years, then words escape me. You're a complete more on.
You are correct, but labour are worse
@@stequality Then the choice in 2029 is obvious, isn't it ?
@richardruff8712 I chose reform on july 4th but the public had other plans which are now in play
@@stequality I heard a comment which seems perfect.... " The British voters get what the British voters deserve..."
@@richardruff8712 Actually I do think Brits who don't vote are a bigger problem. Everyone needs to wake up and at least try to create a democracy.
Still leaves 2 equally repugnant candidates.
So Tory MPs have opted for a leadership election between a Liz Truss Mark 2 and a Liz Truss Mark 2 🤣. They've obviously learned the lessons of their electoral annihilation lol
Black magic
I doubt that'll work.
I imagine it is the centre right party members who have gone, so what is left will be the centre. On that premise, they would choose Jenrick.
Robert Jenrick.women never last in the tory party.
Robert Jenrick is gonna be crazy if he wins no because just imagine in 4 years if conservatives win again? He would be called a racist 24/7
You are out of your mind! Margaret Thatcher stayed leader of the Tory party through THREE general elections.
Thatcher - 15 years and 11 as PM.
strange thing to say......................clearly it might not be this women, however Thatcher lasted longer than any other leader in any party since 1945.
