That ring looks to be bronze rather than brass, possibly Roman, very ancient.
You are right, it's brass, but exquisite "Rough Cuts" pattern and proportions!

I didn't know metal detecting was legal in Italy!!! and I googled this, and it says mountains aren't allowed. how are you able? thanks
Italy. All things of archeological interest, in and out of the ground, are the property of the state. Metal detecting by private individuals is allowed in some regions. ... You can also hunt in the regions where it's prohibited to, but not in the areas of archaeological importance - on private land and in the mountains.

I think that they had no gold those poor mountaineers, all they had were those 2 Soldi coins! poor souls... gold might have been lost by some soldier in the 1800's..
