  • Yesterday provided a perfect forecast for evening proximity flying and testing out a new line. The wind up top was a bit stronger than anticipated so fast forward to 2:00 for the proximity flying if you don't want to see the warm-up. The ravine section flattens out a bit so I approached it with caution and will have to progressively drop down until it flows nicely. I love these long summer evenings!

When did you start speedflying, and when you know you are ready to switch from paragliding? Can you give me some info about how did u get into a sport. Cheers!

I started in Sept 21 with the aim of increasing my amount of flying due to the wider windspeed window. I soon found that it was my preferred way of enjoying calm, non-thermic days and that on the windier days it also offers slope soaring... but only on laminar sites like small coastal dunes. It's simply not worth soaring in high winds if it's turbulent. I have made a very slow and progressive switch: starting with a really easy-to-fly 16 sqm Level Flame, trims fully closed, and soaring. I tested the trims, wingovers and flare until I was happy to start easing closer to the ground and riding with the trimmers open after take-off. This was all done on easy lines with a multitude of landing options before progressively getting more challenging. I'm now on a 13 sqm Swing Mirage RS 2 and doing the same work-up to get comfortable on it.... but still have a way to go before trying barrel rolls!
