Let’s Talk About Thoth Tarot & Fear

- A video where I respond to an e-mail I got from Amy, asking about whether the Thoth Tarot deck is safe to use. I see this (type of) question a lot, and wanted to open up the conversation in a way that may have not been done before.
I realise I’m saying some things that may sound controversial at first, but I explain my thoughts a little better further into the video.
True Tarot, in my opinion, can never be only light or only dark. And this doesn’t change regarding which deck you use. It’s about how it makes you feel, and this is (surprise!) mostly up to you. Delving into what it means to be “spiritually safe”.
My name is Anna and I'm a Tarot reader from Amsterdam, I upload in English and in Dutch.
All of my videos are about- or related to Tarot and have a strong "explore and decide for yourself"-vibe, so if you like that, don't forget to subscribe.

Sharing all of my thoughts on why the Thoth Tarot deck is considered dark and disturbing; what this really means, where it comes from and why it’s just as much Crowley’s fault as Harris’s! ;) Please continue the conversation in the comments - Anna
This deck is not dark ....It is filled with light, and indeed love. It's is deep, when you connect with it correctly. I know very little about Crowley really, but the deck is not evil.
I agree 💯💯💯❤️
I’ve been told by a few that Tarot is too dark, or evil lol. They will only use oracle decks. This to me is a big red flag for someone who isn’t ready to look at their shadow sides.

You inspired me to buy a Thoth deck and I’m nerding out on it do hard, absolutely in love with it so far. We all need a kick in the ass, you need discomfort to inspire growth.
Growth is discomfort! (A lot of the times) Glad you like your Thoth, Dominique
I like this video - an interesting set of reflections.
I have a strong antipathy towards Aleister Crowley not because I think he is the devil, but because I find him to be a sexist, egotist cultist who exploited his followers, especially women.
For that reason I long stayed away from the Thoth deck.
But like you, once I got a vintage (Blue Box) Thoth deck in my hands, I was enchanted. I did a deck interview and when I asked the deck to tell me about itself, I drew the High Priestess. One of the first things she said was: “Don’t worry about that blathering fool Crowley. He won’t bother you as you use the deck!”
I find the gorgeous Art Deco-style artwork, sacred geometry, and evolved feminine energy in this deck very appealing.
Once I learned that the original Book of Thoth was written by a founder of Golden Dawn who outlined the connections between tarot and Kabbalism and Hermeticism, I got more interested in studying this way of understanding the tarot. Crowley’s book is an extended commentary on the original, and merely builds on a large body of deeper antecedent work on esotericism.
Plus Lady Frieda Harris’ paintings are based on Rudolph Steiner’s projective geometry and rooted in wider mystical traditions and not just Crowleys self-promoting “sex magick.”
One of the gifts of tarot is to explore shadow material, as Carl Jung describes it. This is true whether you are using RWS or Thoth or modern re-interpretations of tarot.
Divination with gentle forms of active imagination, shamanic voyaging or meditation are a safe way to explore these darker sides of the self, with the inner healer protecting against plunging too deeply into the depths.
I am not superstitious about tarot and won’t read for superstitious people.
Tarot reading, as I understand it, is a way of connecting with our own subconscious mind and the archetypes of the collective unconscious. I will say it can be canny in its accuracy!
Finally, I’m glad that your life has been sunny enough that you have never encountered pure evil. May it stay so.
What a wonderful video. I mostly liked the part with the lust, so true. I love to have different decks who takes me to different places or moods. I can't wait more of my Thoth deck but the post are SO weird here in Sweden. Yesterday I waited the whole day but no it wasn't there. Thank you very much ❤
This deck is the only one that speaks to me. It is so accurate in readings for others and the symbolism is so powerful for personal development. After decades using the I Ching and tarot personally I am planning to start doing readings for others and this is my deck of choice. Thanks for sharing this video.
I love working with my Thoth Tarot. Nothing to be scared of. Thank you for this QUALITY CONTENT love. ❤
Excellent video!!!
You bring up some very enlightening points about the bias towards this deck.
I consider myself extremely lucky as I discovered Crowley through 3 books I purchased at the flea market for 25 cents a piece.
I was able to formulate my own opinion by the merit of his writings and he impressed me from the start.
The Thoth deck is stunning artistically and packed with symbolism.
It is a shame that many can’t see past someone else’s narrative when they view the deck.
Very good points! Sounds like some great finds
Exploring Thoth, coming to this video and wondering why I haven't seen this one before? I think that if this deck shows images that can be used in a certain way without the constraints of "oh no I don't want to use it because of..... (whatever reason)
Some of the images are so definitely mind opening. Shapes, symbols, colours characters, wow! I like the question that Amy asked how and you replied. There are definitely more controversial decks out there now. The Night Sun Tarot has some epic images that maybe everyone doesn't connect with yet that's what makes it work for me.
I'm off to a Thoth deck zoom class today. I don't require sunglasses though 😎.
I think the Thoth awakens a level of consciousness the deeper I look. Just as music is part of a journey of discovery too. Thank you Anna, as always 🙏 💜 🙏
Haha the sunglasses! Thanks for sharing this and enjoy your Thoth class!
I chose the Thoth deck as my first deck to learn tarot on because of how captivating it is. Lovely, mysterious artwork that makes you want to dig deeper
InfamousMedia Yes, it’s so special. Crazy how good it is
I really resonate with your mind and articulation and expression of the ideas you have espoused here. Very intrigued to see what you have here on your channel. A sub from me for sure. You seem so transparent and candid here and I feel receptive to this right now. This is a breath of fresh air in these bizarre times of twisted media, corporate greed , corrupted governors, self fulfilling prophecies and meaningless blither about absolutisms. Thank you for sharing your even handed perspectives.
Thank you so much and welcome to this space ;)
Once heard in a game:
"Darkness is not the same as Evil."
I enjoy darkness, it's comforting..
It does not mean that I'm evil. I'll help anyone who needs, as long as it's possible.
Thanks for the vid, you gave words for the points I wanna talk about with some friends :)
Apart from the ceremonial magick, Crowley was considered “the wickedest man on earth” because he started a free love commune in 1920! I think you’re right, that he also played the part for the publicity.
Dude theres so much wisdom and insight in this video. I love this
Thank you, feel free to share
Really brilliant!!! I enjoy your diligence and exploration and wisdom so much! Like oxygen of information in this world. I thank you truly !!!
This is a very interesting discussion. I guess most religious systems have a very narrow way of looking at life and the world and it's difficult for people coming from that background to be able to look at different forms of expression with a natural curiosity.
Also, the philosophies behind the Thoth aim at a personal spiritual journey. So each one of us is at a particular point in that journey, with the same being true of Aleister Crowley. He may have understood the path, but he certainly didn't walk the whole path himself, which is something any one of us can hardly judge, as we each also experience good and evil in varying degrees, to use that terminology.
Religion can be a door to spirituality, as it presents simpler guidelines, but I sincerely believe that if people don't move past religious dogma at some point they will not progress in their spiritual understanding, as the universe is clearly not bound by human dogma.
I like what you said there!
I love the Thoth Tarot. It could actually be considered my favorite.
NOETIC BLOOM it’s absolutely gorgeous
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve found it just in time I needed it. P.S. You’re so pretty 😍 and I love your calm and harmonious energy. Much love! ❤️
Safety as stagnant and stupid, yes! What a great perspective 💚💚💚
I know I'm late to the game here and I'm just now watching your video. Great video, BTW! I use tarot more for meditation than divination. I've had the Crowley Thoth Deck the original Greenies) since 1979 - 43 years. There have been years, even decades that I have not unwrapped the deck from it's gold wrapped black silk cloth. However, it has lived in its customized wooden box on my beside table for every single day of the last 40+ years. You're right about the shock value. Crowley studied and taught Indian Tantra which uses shock as part of it's ritual. Also, Crowley was a spy for his majesties service and a spy uses deception to preserve his life and mission. For these reasons, I think you've brilliantly expressed the heart of the issue. Warmest regards.
Thank you, I hope the deck will be unwrapped one day and give a helpful reading!
@@AstralLadyTarot May God bless, Goddess bless and all the little Godlets bless and thank you! I do have my Thoth deck in my lap at this very time. It still amazes me. I'm a Cancer and my favorite card is the Ace of Cups.. It vibrates. I just wanted to appreciate you for the Thoth/Fear video and the service it has and will do for so many. 😄
In my opinion, the fear comes entirely from Aleister Crowley. He "conjured" up demons and worked with dark forces for his own selfish purposes. So if that is something you are opposed too, then yes that will put you off. The Art itself is beautiful, and Thoth was/is a righteous being who wants to help and further humanity. Great video Anna, thank you.
Dub Siren Wonderful view on this!
"so informative, sweet, and wise": Yes!
Alan Weaver Hi Alan, thank you
Y E S ! Anna! Spot on, beautiful! I only got my large vintage greenie very recently and that deck has proven to be a catalyst for me finding warmth and trust in Thoth, having an "a-ha" moment and re-affirming the fascination I have had with Thoth Tarot for quite a while! AMAZING video! Thank you so much!
Musings by Mascha Hey Mascha! How wonderful to hear, thank you for letting me know. That greenie, yes, I LOVE IT
@@AstralLadyTarot I, like you, believe that Lady Frieda Harris was beyond that time. I now see Thoth as a very empowering and insightful deck. And another gem here! Very true, the cards are the reflection of ourselves - the Mirror of the Soul, as the title of the guidebook you mentioned states.
Musings by Mascha Absolutely!
Same for me. A vintage greenie came to me unintentionally and I fell in love with Thoth. After that I have bought other versions of the deck too but nothing feels even close in my hands. But now I love all my Thoth decks.
Fierce and Pretty That vintage deck is definitely of superior quality. Plus I like the green
Ok, here’s my take on the whole evil/ good dichotomy ….most people believe that the force for good (god) and the force for evil (Satan) are polar opposites….they are not. God CREATED the devil , so the force for evil is much weaker in the big picture. Our question needs to be ….why did god create such a thing / being / energy ?? This leads to the conclusion that nothing can be PURE evil, but there can be PURE good, as it is supreme . Also….as a life long RWS tarot user , it took me 20 years to see the Thoth deck in a new light , and have recently been studying it , and I absolutely love it! It speaks to me like no other deck I own….and I own a very diverse collection! I have never seen it as a “dark” deck ….just a complicated one! lol!
Interesting and wonderful to hear! Thank you ♥️
This was a really great video. Love your logic and rationale. I am from Australia but have Dutch family, just wanted to mention that! Subscribed x
I love working with Thoth and yes have read lots of discussion online re Thoth and Aleister Crowley .. ... I believe the artwork enables one to look within as many different Tarot decks also ....Thank You for sharing your thoughts ..
Your inviting bad spirits into your life you have no idea what your saying
Unknown & thought provoking....yes! Rule breaker, gives love freely, allows agency - resonate with all these for Thoth. It took a vintage copy to awaken my love of Thoth and appreciate its warm voice. Thanks Anna 🖤
Lady Alchemilla A warm voice, yes!
I was given German version of the original deck. I love it. x . Thanks for your video and your excellent reality check for the lost. :) .
Thank you very much for the video…. It really helped me …..
Thanks! Check out my other videos if you're interested
@@AstralLadyTarot your video inspired me to buy this deck and explore the Toth tarot. I intend to make a video of it on my channel as soon as I get it. Thanxxxx. I will keep watching!
I just got started into tarot. I have a few decks but I was drawn to my favorite deck "The Urban Tarot" by Robin Scott. I found out that it was inspired by the Thoth deck. And I'm glad that I was attracted/connected to this deck. Still trying to learn how to use it
It's a great journey, enjoy it!
Hi. Very nice conversation. I think for us to understand what we call good we had to understand the bad, the dark and the disturbing as well. In ours life journey it is not only red roses. I am knew to tarot but i am very interested about the thoth deck. I don't care about Crawley... hey i didn't stop listening to Michael Jackson. Xx
I love the movie-like way you say things, it sounds pretty cool.
About my opinion, I started thinkin Tarot de Marseille is the only good Tarot but through time my thoughts changed: I still think the TdM is the best Tarot, but not the only good one, I really like Thoth Tarot, even though I don't like to use it because of the amount of symbols and the difficulty to connect a card with another, it is beautyful and well intentioned. Despite this, I don't like RWS and most decks at all.
I wouldn't say that it's dark in a negative way, just a bit obscure with it's heavy load of symbolism for a beginner.
I have the Aleister Crowley Thoth deck and I'm happy with that fact, I also have the Osho Zen Tarot deck and I would like to have the Sacred She Tarot also done by Ma Deva Padma as well, I also would like to have the Tao Oracle Cards, also done by Ma Deva Padma, there are also Tarot decks based on the Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot deck, like the Liber T Tarot of Stars Eternal, I have that one as well, there is The Aleister Crowley Tarot by Tania Ahsan, the Marea Tarot by Masa Kulenoviç and the Asherah Tarot by Sarah Wheatley, I don't have these last three, but I would like to have them as well!
About 'fear' of the Tarot and fear of certain decks of Tarot and Oracle cards; if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!
If there is a deck with which I would not like to work with, I will not do it!
I use the Thoth deck and have since early 90s its the deck I learned with and still use it.
Its worn from the inside out.
I say go deep.
You are lovely, by the way :)
So drawn to the decks but I haven't got one yet
Omg wow, you are very helpful and inspiring!!!
Glad to be of help!
Thoth does not seem dark. Crowley certainly was, and to me Frieda Harris seems to have been the light to Crowley's darkness, bringing us the perfectly balanced deck as the end result. Overall, I think that people obssess too much over Crowley's part in creating the deck and overlook Harris's contribution, which I'd compare to focusing on the writer of a comic book at the expense of its illustrator. Tarot as a medium is narrative and graphic at the same time - and both contributions are of key and equal importance, even if one of them seems to be directing the other (in this case, Crowley setting the intellectual tone of the deck, reviewing and demanding corrections to Harris' drawings). I think marketing played a role here, too - on the most popular copies of Thoth, Crowley's name is displayed much more prominently than Harris'.
Very well said
This video is fantastic. I have a respect for Crowley. Everything he contributed, which is a lot, is overlooked by the typical person
Great thoughts I totally agree with most of them. And I am delighted to learn that I should not burn a church because I sometimes listen to Burzum. 😁
This comment made me chuckle :)
Very beautiful. Thank you.
Hi, Katrin!
There is a 'fluffy wing' element in the Spiritual community that dislike Thoth. Very few have ever picked up a deck, I am more than happy to go from Thoth to RWS, Whatever does the job. The fear is built on a misunderstanding.
It's possible to not like a deck, but I hear what you're saying. Of course nobody is obligated to try out a deck or a specific Tarot system, but I think this underdog (even though it's of course a very successful deck) is often overlooked or labeled as all sorts of bad and evil sounding things.. I feel lucky in knowing RWS, Thoth and Marseille!
@@AstralLadyTarot Thoth came later the other two. I had first off as learning decks. I am on my Thoth obsession ode right now lol..Thank you for the reply.
Thanks 4 such an inspiring explanation :)
Thoth is my main deck and I think you're right about Crowley. Thoth is a deck that tells you the truth! I always have to be ready to face the facts when I read the cards.
You made so many valid points, Anna! I loved this video from start to finish. I have never really knuckled down to study Thoth (that remains a mystery) yet I love the deck. I always have. I have a few books that I happily delve in from time to time, but all in all, I still have a lot to learn. And that gives me much to look forward to. I don't buy into the fear factor re Thoth system and if Crowley was a Freaky McFreak Weirdo, that's great! It adds spice to the whole experience. Whether he was or was not, the Thoth system is amazing and deserves just as much respect as both RWS and Marseille, in my opinion. I love them all. I love the fact that we have a choice. I love the fact that they have their differences. That what makes the world go round. Thanks for another informative, enjoyable video. 🖤
Liminal Lark I also like to use these three systems, finding the overlap and differences etc. Thank you for your delightful comment
For anyone wondering what the best way to start your day is: pour a cup of coffee, watch this is video, that is all 😂🤗 Seriously Anna, this was amazing! 💚 Also (and you may already know this, so I'm sorry if that's the case 🙉), in reference to cards Crowley put more of "himself" into (like Osho), DuQuette provides a few examples in his book which make sense astrologically, in terms of the Golden Dawn and who Crowley was, after reading this and heading back to the Book of Thoth it seems like Crowley was a lot more complimentary with the cards he has reason to have a connection to (and there are some personal nods in the actual cards themselves). They are The Ace of Disks, The Five of Wands, and The Prince of Wands; supposedly Crowley really identified with this Ascendant in Leo at 3 degrees, just a fun fact! There may be a few more, but those are the one's I recall. I really have found that RWS feels a little darker to me, Thoth feels more objective and detached. Love your greenie!!! I've been on the verge of getting one for many months but they tend to cost a lot so I guess I'm just waiting for the desire to become so strong that the cost seems more worth it 😂😂
I was hoping this video would find you, as you have recently stated you prefer Thoth. This is all so interesting, I am still only scratching the surface on most of this I feel. Nice to hear back! And lovely to hear that you find Thoth more objective and RWS feels darker to you. Don't pay more than 60 bucks for a Greenie, someone once told me, and that's exactly what I got mine for. I know now that I was extra lucky, though, because it's white box, cards still in cellophane and every line is super sharp. I truly hope you find one, it's gorgeous
@@AstralLadyTarot You lucky duck! 🦆😂 That's great advice, thank you for sharing that, I'll try to be more patient and observant! Well wishes to you during this time Anna!!!! 💚💚💚
James Feeney Hope this didn’t come off as bragging, but I wish you good luck!
@@AstralLadyTarot Not at all! It was great advice and this is going to sound crazy but I actually just found a greenie just at the price point you suggested sticking to! I've been searching for months, I can't help but feel our interaction help to manifest it or something, so thank you!!!!!! 💚💚😆
James Feeney Wow! That is very possible indeed. You’re welcome haha ;) Please do a video :p
Thank you for this powerful discussion, and your understanding of diverse people. For me, it's been a strange journey. I've not been afraid of Crowley or the artwork. For some reason, I've been intimidated by it. I felt great studying it and meditating with the cards. Still, for a few years now, I've felt lack of confidence to read with it. I did my own first mini-reading today. It made me laugh because the focal card was "Lust" (which is also my sun sign) 🌞.
I think I need to play with reading and ways of laying cards.
I definitely think it's a safe deck, but Intellectually intimidating (a bit 😉)
Definitely feel that Intellectually Intimidating ;)
Darkness is not the opposite of light... it is the absence... this is why it clings at the corners of everything and fills every crack and depth seemingly from within. It is the natural state of things broken through only occasionally by exceptional pin pricks... luckily “every man and every woman is a star.”
I’m familiar with this passage;) it’s a good one thank you
🙏💯
Crowley wasn't a bad guy. A very soft spoken englishman. It's the symbolism, and the magic. People don't understand it, it can look strange, the monsters are different - rather than beauty death of posthumous marching toward heaven wrapped in warm plush realities, there is a dark imagery and other realities not touched upon in a mundane idle existence. There is some heavy stuff in Crowley's work, but he does like to throw you into the water to teach you to swim. If educated in mysticism before confronting Crowley, his world is much less strange. Thoth deck isn't dark, but it can be, as in -You need to learn how to juggle blades, so to speak. They used to call cards of a suit blades long ago. Double meaning.
Crowley had esoteric knowledge which in itself is neither bad or good. The truth is the truth but you can use it for bad or good.
Thanks for this video! What was the name of the documentary you mentioned in the video?
In my view tarot is neither good nor bad
It just is. When I say the statement "the sky is usually blue, but sometimes it's black, or shades of red" is that statement evil? No of course not
There are things it can describe that may be undesirable to you, and you may want to fix or avoid what is being described
But it's no more evil than the letters of the alphabet are evil. In context words can be immoral, but words themselves will never be
Beautiful said. Bright mind.
Hello. I’m new to this. I’m pretty good at astrology hoping this resonates with me. This Thoth peeked my interest
Actually really like to know which BANDS you enjoy. Again… wonderful mind. 🙏
I mention some sometimes. There are so many, new and old, that I like and love
For me, as someone who puts a heavily Christian approach onto Tarot, I love that deck. However, my issues are more in regards to cultural appropriation. Crowley was anti-Christian for understandable reasons. Christian leaders have been deeply corrupt for centuries. I could say "well, it was a certain version of Christianity he was against," but if he was anything like anti-Christians today, he'd possibly consider me an enabler.
Yours is the first video I encountered that mentions the controversy of the Osho Zen Tarot deck, and not being familiar with the deck, I am curious. Do you have any any links to any videos or resources where this controversy is discussed?
Hey Angelina, the "master" card in that deck is discussed throughout the online Tarot community, but I can't direct you to a single video. Have you seen Wild Wild Country on Netflix?
Random question- do you have Liber T Tarot? It is inspired by Thoth and people either love it or hate it. I wonder what are your thoughts on it?
Not a really random question! I don't have it because I really really like Thoth to have the original, mayyyybe some "clones" but Liber T even though it explains a lot, I'm not into
I have just started using the large Thoth deck its been sitting in a box under my bed for years. The deck isn't scary, its magick. Ive asked the cards to teach me and they are :D , expect weirdness. The deck for me is like using an iPhone compared to a Nokia 320 from the 90s! I left the unicursal hexagram in once by mistake and now keep it in! The deck is playful , funny and in my experience is entirely accurate the only mistakes I make are from reading from ego not intuition. If I look at the rider Waite deck now it looks like a really basic computer . Although I couldn't have started with the Thoth- its very intensely complicated. I personally think the art work by Harris is incredible! Have fun thothers. "those conspiracy guys" do a really funny Long form podcast on Crowley , mostly he was great at marketing himself!
Haha that is such a good point: he was great at marketing himself! If they had drama youtube or gossip magasines in the day, he would often make the front page. I love this deck
I’m 3 years late to this party but what is the documentary on Netflix that you are speaking of? Ty ❤
I think it was about Bagwahn, Wild Wild Country
I think the "fire force" is part of god, thus part of all people, represented by the suit of wands, and necessary.
Are you Aries sun Aquarius moon and Virgo rising? Or cap moon? I’m feeling Saturn, Pluto and Uranus when I listen to you talk. A touch of mars.
Safe means staying where you are. Has nothing to do with angels and demons. Staying in your comfort zone is safe-- growth, learning, revolution, evolution, etc are not "safe."
Safe spirituality where you don't change and don't question things... isn't real spirituality to me. It's stagnation, it's a trap.
The Devil card is safe... the tower card is not safe, but it's liberation. Liberation is not safe. 💗
For me, Thoth isnt scary... just too many erotic meanings and imagery.. I read intuitively and this deck just do not work for me for those types of readings even if artworks are truly visionary .. I am art historian and for me somehow these cards are like artworks in gallery, but not instruments, .. But! Love to hear your thoughts and love your video! 💛💛💚
Thank you for this video dear! I want this same tarot deck... could you link some information about please? 🙏🏼
You're welcome! This is a vintage Thoth with a green tint, I don't have the box here ready but I did make a video comparing this one to a small version and in there you can see the ISBN code, which is really the way to find what you're looking for online. Best of luck!
Opinion..
If you are concerned with "dark energy" you should leave the cards alone. All decks.
You will never get anything out of it. No deck will work for you.
Aww, all the Uncle Al hate! ;) Ugh, religious programming is so destructive. I think buy the deck, if you hate it, get rid of it. If you are captivated by it like many of us are, YAY! I don't know--I think if you have some sort of visceral response to a deck, it has something to teach you, and belongs in your collection. Great video! (Hey, how do you find one of those "greenie" copies of the deck?, TIA!)
Also, I think Lady Harris' art is worth the price of admission alone, full stop. AND many of us wouldn't roll our eyes at the question--because we've been there. I was damaged by religion too. When I finally came to my senses and jettisoned xtianity, it STILL took a few years to clear all the indoctrination out of my mind. I was "afraid" of the Thoth too, the first time I bought it. BUT, my experience with it was so profound and succinctly accurate, I've had a copy ever since. I REALLY want one of those greenie ones, tho...
@@redforrori Poor uncle Al! Being afraid of a Tarot deck must mean we are afraid of what's inside ourselves. I own two Thoth greenies; one of them I found by accident on a dutch online selling site, the second one on good old ebay. Take your time, most of the greenies now go for crazy high prices. Good luck finding one!
@@AstralLadyTarot Boy I know! I looked on eBay yesterday and they were over $150. OUCH. Thanks for the info!
One must become Thoth to integrate it.
Hi Anna. Great video. I have the Thoth deck but as of yet have only enjoyed looking at the art and the beautiful colours. I do find some of the cards very pointy and angular, like you said it encompasses geometry. As teenagers we were told that the tarot contained evil spirits! Haha! I wonder if some people think/believe that Aleister Crowley's spirit is attached to the decks? The other thought is that because there is so much symbolism in the cards , that the symbols may trigger or implant some subconscious thoughts and then we would not be in control of our own perceptions and ideas. In other words, we would be brain washed and controlled. I do not believe any of this, just talking. I'm with you, light and shadow, they are a tool and you yourself make them and get out of them what you need, it's a story we can put ourselves into. Looking forward to seeing the next lot of cards you've drawn.
Alison Graham thank you for sharing! That’s interesting the idea that the reader becomes brainwashed. A better description of what’s happening, in my opinion, would be that of course working with a Tarot deck requires Tarot study. And this study allows the reader to understand these symbols on a deeper level. The symbols are there to trigger you, yes but if you know what they mean you understand the message. If not, it can still seem scary
I personally like the Marseille to read with the best. But I am currently studying the Thoth system. I find though I pretty much have to study all of Crowley’s writings as well as Thelma just to get a grasps of the Thoth Tarot system. It’s a bit different.
Thanks Anna appreciate this information and what Thoth deck you recommend for to learn this style, (because maybe I like it or not)
Fattima Can’t go wrong with a standard Thoth! I think the large decks are good because it’s easier to see all the details
hi, do you ever draw tarot cards that have seemingly little to do with the question? How do you reconcile this? Thanks
Hey April Matilda, yes for sure. "The Tarot is always right" and so I dig and dig until I find how the card is teaching me something I hadn't considered or was trying to ignore
@@AstralLadyTarot ok, thank you!
❤️
What most people haven't understood it's that universe is made from darkness and light. As humans and also God.
It is not dark!!! Stop making remarks that are not true.
;)
The reason people are scared by the Thoth deck is because when they look at it, their shadow stares back at them. Like you said, tarot is about growth. The way we grow is by integrating the shadow, which after being repressed and ignored can be terrifying to come face to face with. If any tarot deck is used honestly for long enough, one will find their shadow, but the Thoth deck cuts to the chase. That’s why the art is more abstract, the meaning of tarot cards is abstract and therefore universal. Instead of representing these ideas through stories (Like most decks) the Thoth deck shows the meanings of the cards as bare and completely as possible. That’s why I find this deck so incredibly helpful, but it is no surprise so many are scared by it.
You're amazing love you
Interesting take. However, if Hitler or Ted Bundy or [insert any egregious mind that ever existed] created the best Tarot deck ever, would you buy it? I don't agree that you can separate the creation from the creator. The creation is borne of the mind of the creator. Therefore, that mind becomes part of the mind of the creation. CROWLEY was not enlightened. In fact, he was far from it. He may have had good qualities, but overall he was ruled by EGO. CREATIONS ARE NOT SEPARETE FROM THEIR CREATORS. GOd created us in his image, therefore we are like God. If you dont like this lingo, just understand that we come from Source and therefore we are like source. There is nothing inherently wrong about buying or using the thoth deck, but do understand that a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. EVER. IT may seem like it, but you might be mistaken.
I can definitely see your points, but we end up with different reasonings. I don't feel I have all the answers, I'm just questioning the statement you've made in your comment. So many people agree with what you've stated. I agree, for sure, that Crowley had an immense ego! Yet I have trouble believing everything that has been written about- and by him to be 100% true, for one, plus.. even terrible people who did terrible things in their lifetime somehow have the ability to write beautiful poetry, for instance. This surprises many of us, for good reason, I believe! How can this terrible person make something beautiful?! This just poses a difficult question to which, again, I do not have the answer. All I know is, I love the Thoth deck and its "voice" works great for me.
@@AstralLadyTarot Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your intelligent response. After much thinking on your video and my ideas, I think there isn't a very clear or objective answer to this question. If Thoth works for someone that is great. Debating it is simply like debating opinion. Best to you
The « I can separe the artist to the art » is really not appropriate for a tarot deck even if he was a « black » mage we know that tools are tools they don’t have a natural « black » or « bad » energy at the end of the day Alester is dead he will not get my money why would I give a fuck about buying his deck 😭😭 and we need to stop saying this « separating artist and art » it’s problematic
In this so MANY way if we support a person who are pedophile by buying his thing etc that’s BAD. But me buying a aliexpress Thoth tarot deck 👁👄👁 and specially when we talk about spiritual tools don’t do anything I mean yes separate the art from the artist it was just to say that this phrase is really uncomfortable for a lot of people it’s kinda problematic since what is happening today and how the society use this phrase to let pedophile and other criminals
Do what they want
Hi Chris. At first I didn't understand what you were saying, but I believe we agree on the matter, except you're calling me out on using a phrase that's been misused, thank you.
I'm a big fan of Toth Tarot please tell me where did you get that huge set of Thoth deck I would like to own one but I can't find one here in America I would have greatly appreciate it
Hey there. This is a vintage version, often called Greenie because of the green hue on the cards (which was a printing mistake). There are some of them on Ebay. I have found they go for a lot of money now. But if all you're looking for is a large Thoth, then here is a link: www.amazon.com/Crowley-Thoth-Tarot-Deck-large/dp/B003975X4O
Thanks
The scariest part of the Thoth Tarot is your first read through the Book of Thoth haha
Hahah agreed. Loved it, though
I wanted this deck but I see a lot of satanism in it and I just can’t get with that I don’t know how to get pass it
The difficulties I know of, I addressed in this video, it could help
Can you help me out? Where do you see Satanism in these cards? a.c. was not a Satanist (that would be Anton Levey..) So idk why he would put Satanism in his deck. He was a ceremonial magician. Anyway, I am very curious were you see Satanism. Maybe I am missing something.
Satanism is a label that Christians put on him, the same kind of Christians who think occult=satanic and think all tarot is "of the devil."
When you call upon demons you basically selling your soul to the devil and don’t get it twisted your a guesser you are not a psychic saying that makes you silly af .
Thanks for you amazing input
