Dear Ms Lena, this delicious recipe is familiar to me also, handed down by my Grandmother who was born in 1897 Alabama and moved to Pittsburgh in 1919 before settling in Ohio a few years later. She was cook at Children Orphanage for over 40 years. I am so happy you are making these historical recipes available. Blessings to you and your daughter. ❤

Mama Lena, thank you! I’m always looking for the old southern style cooking and I needed a pound cake and found you. Not only is it good but you told the history of the original pound cake. I’m here to tell that made it even more special. Keep giving the history of the food you make so we can pass it on to the next generation of southern soul food cooking. Thanks to you.

  • @LGAussie

Mama Lena, I’m looking forward to trying this. Sadly, ur assistant didn’t let us see the whole slice come out to see the texture. It’s important to show the whole slice before tasting. It gives the viewer an idea how in interior is suppose to look, but either way, I know this is a great one!! 👏👏
I always use half the sugar in many recipes cause I like the taste of butter to be more dominant. 👍🙏👍

To avoid the messiness of taking the butter out of the wrappers when they get to room temperature, unwrapped the frozen butter and place it in the mixing since you are removing the wrappers from the room temperature butter and placing them in the same bowl--looks like a good recipe worth a try. It's amazing that you are able to give measurements, since in those days they eyeball the ingredients

Hi Miss Lena. I am making your cake tonight. It's in the oven baking right now!! I can't wait until it's done. One thing, in the video, you say use 1 Tablespoon of baking soda. But, your listed recipe says 1 teaspoon. I used 1 teaspoon baking soda. If you read my message, I hope you will clarify. Fingers-crossed, I hope my cake comes out right. Thank you, Miss Lena!❤⚘😊

My grandmother taught me how to make this recipe in the early 80's. It was a very delicious cake but now that I'm in my mid 60s I find this cake is much to heavy for me to digest. I now make a much lighter version of this recipe which still tastes as good as the original pound cake recipe 😋.
