Thank you for taking the time to put together these videos. I have been building my own PC computers since the 90s. I have never purchased a pre-built but after going to my usual haunts to buy parts - I realized that I could not do that since there were no GPUs available. So I purchased an HP 30L with an I7 CPU, RTX3090 GPU and 32 GB memory. Thanks to your videos and a few others - I was aware of what to expect good and bad when getting this computer. For example, I knew to avoid the I9 CPU due to lack of case air-flow, upgrade to 32 GB of memory up front since since upgrading memory down the road is not worth it for the motherboard supplied. I spec'd out this same configuration on several of the popular PC custom builder sites and the price for those was at least $1000 more than HP Omen 30L from the HP site. I have only had this computer for a week but I've been having lots of fun playing my games at max settings. I think my new HP Omen 30L is very usable in its current state and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon. I want to thank you for this great video series. It was very helpful to me.

My 30l is coming today. This info is very helpful. There's not many UA-camrs that actually own the this Omen. It helps to have someone who knows what they are talking about from actual ownership, not just a sponsored review.

After waiting over a year for the RTX 3080ti to be released and then having it delayed indefinitely, I decided not to wait any longer and go for the pre-build option and landed with the 30l, RTX3090 with the i9. What I'm going to do is make the fan changes from your previous videos and maybe look into the thermal pads of the GPU to get my vram temps under control (at the moment not having any issues with that so I might wait). In a year orso from now I'll start look into doing a case-swap as you are doing now. Great video's btw, they help a lot!

Great video dude, some great points in there. Hard to believe that they used components that run SO HOT in a case that literally has zero air flow. The case made more sense with 1xxx and 2xxx series cards and slightly older CPU's but still ran a bit warm but safe. Looking forward to watching your new DIY PC build as I'll also be doing mine fairly soon, but I still have some Omen content planned. Your component choices look strong dude! Also, who were you a tech for? I'm a mechanic for Toyota.

I bought an Omen 30l directly from HP. Had it for about 3 months now. Mine has a i9 10900k, RTX 2080TI, 64GB RAM, 2 TB Western Digital Black SSD, and a 2TB HDD. My CPU actually runs really cool around 58-62 Celsius. The only issue I’ve had is my GPU will get up to 85 Celsius when I try a minor overclock. I raised the core clock by 200mhz and the memory clock by 100mhz and my temps dropped to a maximum of 77 Celsius. Over all I love the computer but damn if that motherboard they use isn’t a pos that I think about replacing every day

I performed memory upgrade thanks to you successfully , well explained and no BS video , keep your videos coming , you do it well . I am also a retired mechanic , so I can relate to you lol .
I own two Omen 30L (one for me one for my son ) we both use Intel i7 with RTX 3080 , they both ran way too hot , tried adding fans to no avail . switched cases with Lian Li 215 on mine , it ran 11 degrees cooler right off the bat ... I highly recommend this case with a cooler master 280mm top mounted AIO , amazing . swapped Lian Li exhaust fan (3 pin ) with a Cooler Master 120 mm fan plugged on my motherboard and its perfect . did same swap on my son's computer , great success on both .

Been following this whole circus from the beginning and I really appreciate you sharing your issues and workarounds. Please keep us posted on the final components that you do end up using as I'll most likely follow suit and get a better machine at the end of the day. I'm interested in getting a motherboard that will allow access to the Intel QuickSync features of the CPU (which requires motherboard video out in case you didn't know) since I have the same CPU as you to give additional strength on video processing encoding/decoding options in addition to the GPU encode/decode.

I'm getting Omen 30L soon. I will indeed undervolt CPU/GPU (thanks for the vids btw) and most likely add more fans or replace the existing fans with Noctua fans. If that doesn't do the trick, I'll see if I can replace 120mm AIO with 240mm AIO, if there's room, with someone's help.
I've never bought HP brand before as I usually stick with Avadirect but man, those GPUs, you can't buy them anywhere and HP only seems to have them at decent or bargain (considering current market) price with not too long of a build time.

I bought this system 3 weeks ago at Microcenter for $2999. I completely agree the system is complete trash as is. The temps were ungodly high and it sounded like a leaf blower when gaming. Bought a MSI z490 and got the 240 version of the MSI cooler. Transferred everything over to a Corsair 4000d Airflow and it runs beautifully. Still worth it in the end considering the market right now.

How ever the cpu is running way too hot(up to 95/97). I was wondering if you have tried undervolting the cpu to lower the temps? And if you think it could help, because i dont really have the money or the trust in my personal skills to move all of the components into a brand new case right now.

Hey JD...great HP Omen videos. I'm going thru the same thought processes as you with this computer. I got mine (identical to yours) about two weeks ago from Microcenter for $2850. I followed your advise with the fan setup and appreciate the results. I have an extra 32GB Ram from my old computer and considering your approach about adding this ram. You are right about the fan noise...it scared me the first time I heard it rev up...sounded like a plane taking off :). I agree with you that it is a powerful computer and it is a shame that the case is too small for it.
My big disappointment is the sound setup. I have an old school Creative Inspire P7800 7.1 speakers system and the lack of sound jacks in the back doesn't allow me to attach my speakers for true 7.1 enjoyment. Also, no extra slots on the MB to add a soundcard for my speaker setup. I did order an external Creative Sound Blaster X3 to resolve these issues (Best Buy for $119).
In the end, I'll do one of two things: 1) I'll enjoy it for a few months and sell the system or just the GPU on ebay to get my money back (because of the high graphics card prices) and then build another one...but buying a graphics card would still be an issue with high prices. 2) Take out the GPU, CPU, and the 1TB HD and then buy a Z570 MB and use my 32GB ram and put it in my old case (Cooler Master Haf 932) that already has a 1000W modular power supply and a boat load of fans...then sell the Omen Case, MB, Power Supply, Fans, and 32GB HP Ram as a combo on ebay.
So JD...please keep us posted with the case transfer and the type of motherboard that you are getting!

Hey, just did a case swap for this piece of junk...I carried over CPU, GPU, HDD, and SSD to a new case and motherboard including a new 360 AIO cooler. No more overheating! However, I am still tinkering around with HP's RTX3090 because the memory is way too hot. I changed the thermal pads and paste, but it is still a bit overheating. I am undervolted GPU to keep memory temp at least around 86C, but at the cost of the fan noise which is over the roof around 2800RPM. Are there any suggestions on GPU settings in afterburner to lower GPU's memory temp decently enough with less fan noise and minimum performance cost? Is there even a sweet spot with this graphics card?

  • @GodsKing69

Yea i have the 10850k and it thermal throttles when gaming. The biggest problem is the mobo since u cant tweek the fan curve. So it just kills every component from the heat. will prob be getting a new mobo and case soon enough. Dont want to kill this expensive pc. Good honest video bro.

The thing as a whole is borderline unusable without some tinkering. The case ventilation is just completely inadequate for the hardware that's in there. Essentially you NEED to do a rebuild with better case, or run the thing side panel open. You can do wonders to GPU memory thermals if you dare to open it up, change/add some quality 1mm thermal pads for memory chips and a bit of extra thermal paste around the GPU. My HP 3080 went from constant 110C throttle-level memory temps with minimum mem clocks to steady ~92C with +1050Mhz with ethereum miner running. Now HP memory temps are much better than on my asus tuf I got after the HP! The HP GPU is really very good with some memory cooling tinkering. Adding the extra thermal paste will increase your GPU core temps as the heat from memory will heat up your main cooler sink thus heating the core a bit but not so much it will be a problem. But no way it's gonna stay cool in original case with side panel closed.

@@alanreynolds4262 If you are familiar with a screwdriver and any hands-on technical experience, I'd say very easy. Plenty of videos on how to tear the thing apart (also HP's 3090 teardown video can be found), clean up and adding fresh pads and paste. Just make sure you have the right size screwdrivers around, all the screws on my HP card are size Phillips 1 = PH1. Before you start, run something like mining or benchmark or game to heat up your card before pulling it out of the PC, it will come apart easier when warm. Thermal paste and pads unglue easier. And make sure you remember which screw goes where, they are slightly different sizes. Good luck with your efforts!

Absolutely the first link will be to the case. just to be aware it is only 110 at microcenter but 140 off amazon, The second link will be the AIO it is actually cheaper off amazon than microcenter but microcenter will price match for you if you want to get it all at one place. I chose this specific AIO because the pump is inside the radiator so you will have less problems with pump whine or any orientation issues. last link will be the motherboard. Now I am still not fully decided on the motherboard but I do like msi motherboards because of the heavy duty heat sinks installed on them and the easy access to overclocking features. I have not price checked this specific motherboard I am linking at micro center yet so I'm not sure if there is a price difference. If I find a better price or decide to go with a different motherboard i will let you know asap.

I have a video on here where I go over all my fan placements and installations that you could watch to see exactly how to do it. There are only two screws holding the radiator in place. once you remove those you can slide the fan and radiator out together and easily get to the 4 fan screws for an easy removal.
