Such a humble speech. Rylance totally deserved this. It's sad that he didn't get a standing ovation. Sly would have definitely got one had he won because of his sublime portrayal of rocky OVER THE YEARS rather than his performance in Creed (he was brilliant in Creed)
Best speech of the night, and what I absolutely love about this win is that it shows how campaigning isn't everything. It is possible to win by simply giving a great performance.
First time I watched Bridge of Spies in a theatre and saw this wonderful actor for the first time, one thought came to mind. Oscar Oscar Oscar. So pleased to see that he did win. The Academy got this one right.
@@lukefreeman828this is the facts. They were all great performances but Rylance is a real one. Just a lovely lovely man and incredibly talented in a long career.
Rylance is the best actor in the world right now, his performance in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall are a testament of that, best award of that night !!
I'm talking about this moment right now, not the decade, century, past 5 or 10 years, I'm talking about his body of work in 2015, and his performances in Wolf Hall, Bridge of Spies and Farinelli and the King demonstrate he is at his peak. And if I were talking about an entire body of work, he is one of the stage's gods. So, still, he can comfortably be toe to toe with the likes of Day-Lewis, Seymour Hoffman, Fiennes, Oldman, Phoenix, Gleeson, Lavant, Mikkelsen, etc. But really, no one came close in 2015.
+leon kane Not Day-Lewis, noone can be toe to toe with him and noone probably ever will, that man is ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE, when it comes to acting I mean......The thing is, he doesnt act, he is just as natural in his roles (any role) as it is humanly possible, that is why noone is like him or even close to him.....
Just finished watching "Bridge of Spies" and never heard of Mark Rylance, not until the credits at then end I wanted to see who played Rudolf Abel, that was the impression it made. Such an understated performance and so well nuanced. Well worth an Oscar - congrats.
For a second there you made me feel like 2003 all over again when Tommy didn't get nominated for that oscar. Then I realized you were actually referring to a good movie :D
In my view, that would've been a slap in the face. He's clearly the *lead* of Room and has more screen time than co-star Brie Larson (who rightfully won her Oscar). No, he deserved a *Best Actor* nomination.
I came here after watching Don't look up...all I remember from that movie was Peter Isherwell, and I thought he was a real person! How on earth I have never watched any of his movies before. He was just exquisite.
Water Hazard he probably thought he won for a split second lol ....when he hears Patricia Arquette say Mark..Rylance (and inside he must’ve been like Damnnnn)
Even 6 years later I still remember his performance. You're saying "no one" as if ALL people don't remember him but there are lots of people who's a Spielberg fan and remember Rylance's Oscar winning performance
I was really rooting for Sly and thought he had it in the bag, but to be fair Rylance was really memorable in Bridge of Spies while doing so little....he just had this way about him that was fascinating, I kept looking forward to seeing him again. And I really like that he didn't do any self-promotion to try and win it and this is a great humble speech so hell, good for him.
I've never even seen _Bridge of Spies_ but I was delighted to see Mark Rylance receive an Oscar. He has been a god to me since _Wolf Hall_ (did he get an Emmy for that? He really should have). The guy is just mesmerising. I might be in love with him. I can't wait to see his Oscar-winning performance. 🙂
Mark Also he deserves win the golden globe I'm happy because Mark won like it or not the result Tom also deserved to win, one of them two before stallone HAPPY ! THANKS ACADEMY
HAHAHA I knew it he's gonna win it the minute i finished watching Bridge of spies. in bridge of spies he didn't cry or he didn't scream or did the others requirement that audiences always "wating for" to prove as best peformance. he just acted as a man he played for. and he NAILED that. AMAZING. his duration is short but he stole the show, He made that film. we dont need to wait which scene he's gonna cry or screamor be hillarious. he just amazing in every single scene he's in. and i wanna watch the movie again and again just to pay attention at him. i can't wait to see his next movie after this and i can't wait to see him at oscar again next year as a presenter. stoiki muzeik!!! Standing man!!!
Says someone that clearly has no concept of acting and think maybe that Rocky Balboa is real and not a fictional character meticulously crafted and imparted with innumerable unique attributes and nuance by the script Stallone wrote and his performance. For the life of me, I will never in my entire existence be able to comprehend why people like you can’t understand that what you are seeing is a performance. Stallone does not sound, talk or act like Rocky in any way shape form or fashion. He is an extraordinary actor.
Looking back on this category many years later, it’s amazing to see the number of talented well deserving nominees compacted into one group. Although Mark Rylance won the Oscar, you could easily make the argument that each of the other 4 actors are deserving if not more worthy to claim this award as their own.
I can't believe the academy gave this Oscar to a nobody. Sylvester Stallone long deserved this Oscar from the first Rocky movie from the 70s, and this nobody takes his chance away.
+fifibrainiac99 I was also expecting Stallone to win but Rylance was also gr8.... So I'm not complaining but it would have been terrific to see Rocky up on that stage....
When this came from the TV, I was on my knees and closed my eyes, fingers crossed and I was just saying in my head "Sylvester Stallone, Sylvester stallone, Sylvester Stallone..." xD
What a night. Supporting Actress, ALICIA VIKANDER, first nomination, first win. Supporting Actor, MARK RYLANCE, first nomination, first win. Leading Actress, BRIE LARSON, first nomination, first win. Lead Actor, LEONARDO DI CAPRIO, five nominations, first win, death of a meme.
I just saw Bridge of Spies today (1/18/17) and happy for Mark Rylance, although I was rooting for Tom Hardy without having seen any other film excluding Revenant. Both are outstanding films. You can catch Tom Hardy in "Taboo" on FX (channel 40) an 8-part miniseries every Tuesday night at 10PM EDT and only on FX.
Still disappointed that Stallone didn't win...Rocky Balboa means more to me as a fictitious character than many of the real people I have come across in my life. Would have been a fitting cap on a depiction of an immortal character. But Rylance managed to make a spy working against the United States sympathetic. Ruffalo was good, Hardy was good, and Bale was above average, but this felt like a two horse race the whole time. Sly's endearing and nuanced turn as Rocky with someone else helping him with the direction of the aging former champ against Rylance's even more nuanced turn as Rudolph Abel, a man you should absolutely loathe, but manage to feel sorry for. Will watch this clip about a dozen more times hoping Sly's name was called, but understand why it wasn't.
amazed by his act in don't look up and triggered me to look him up, and realized he was in other movies I loved and had great impression of him without knowing who he is! now I am totally into this great actor!!!
It’s sad sly Stallone’s brother attacked this man on social media out of no reason other than pure jealousy because he felt his brother deserved this win more. Rylance has proven himself to be an amazing talent since this breakout role
of those 5 nominees what Stallone did was the greatest achievement in acting, he took a character he's played since 1976 and made it fresh and deeply moving, the reason Rylance won is the average oscar voter is over 60 years old, they miss movies like bridge of spies the kinda movies gregory peck and james stewart used to make
Trump 2020 Nah, I saw the film when I was 22 and rented it from Family Video and was blown away by the film it was great. Tom Hanks was superb as always and Mark Rylance was phenomenal and was worthy of that Oscar Win! I saw Creed and while Stallone did great it was nothing compared to Rylance.
This was a tough one, I really, really wanted to win Tom Hardy to win it for the Revenant. Beautiful picture and a stellar performance from my favorite actor, but I hadn't seen Bridge of Spies at that time, since then I've seen it 3x and I love every second of it, and he alone makes the film so good.

Spielberg obviously really likes the man- everyone worth a damn loves Rylance. He’s a real one.
First time I watched Bridge of Spies in a theatre and saw this wonderful actor for the first time, one thought came to mind. Oscar Oscar Oscar. So pleased to see that he did win. The Academy got this one right.
I remember sitting in the movie theater watching this film in awe. So many emotions. Mark was truly the light of everything with his performance.
I'm sorry Tom Hardy had that in the damn bag, one of the best, most realistic, and perfectly acted true villains I've seen in recent years.
Yes he was the best actor in the revenant....over Leo. What a Performance
Oscars dont want to give Hardy the credit he deserves. Man got done so dirty over the years by the academy.
Tom Hardy is great, if a little typecast, Rylance on the other hand is one of the finest living actors in the world.
@@lukefreeman828 I agree on Rylance. I just prefered that performance.
@@lukefreeman828this is the facts. They were all great performances but Rylance is a real one. Just a lovely lovely man and incredibly talented in a long career.
Mark in this role reminded me to my grandfather. God rest this soul
Rylance is the best actor in the world right now, his performance in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall are a testament of that, best award of that night !!
He is a good actor, but not the best,, at all!
I can easily say u like 20 other actors better than him ;)
I'm talking about this moment right now, not the decade, century, past 5 or 10 years, I'm talking about his body of work in 2015, and his performances in Wolf Hall, Bridge of Spies and Farinelli and the King demonstrate he is at his peak.
+leon kane calm down lol
+leon kane Not Day-Lewis, noone can be toe to toe with him and noone probably ever will, that man is ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE, when it comes to acting I mean......The thing is, he doesnt act, he is just as natural in his roles (any role) as it is humanly possible, that is why noone is like him or even close to him.....
Just finished Bridge of Spies, what a wonderful actor. Humble acceptance speech. Cheers all around!
Just finished watching "Bridge of Spies" and never heard of Mark Rylance, not until the credits at then end I wanted to see who played Rudolf Abel, that was the impression it made. Such an understated performance and so well nuanced. Well worth an Oscar - congrats.
Rhis was the best acceptance speech of the night and he deserved it.
He was fantastic in that film. He is a fantastic actor. Well deserved.
Made up for Mark Rylance. He was absolutely captivating in Wolf Hall and Bridge of Spies. Terrific intensity and so believable.
Wow what an incredible and humble acceptance speech
Just watched "Room" yesterday. I'm really mad the academy didn't give Jacob Tremblay a nomination in here.
For a second there you made me feel like 2003 all over again when Tommy didn't get nominated for that oscar. Then I realized you were actually referring to a good movie :D
Magic V Yep!
In my view, that would've been a slap in the face. He's clearly the *lead* of Room and has more screen time than co-star Brie Larson (who rightfully won her Oscar). No, he deserved a *Best Actor* nomination.
They didn't want him to beat Leo. Jacob was the lead in his movie.
Alejandro Pérez Rodilla Just saw it too.Not only nominated but should have won. I cried when he had to do what his ma told him to help them.
Rylance just blew me away with his kindness , performance and great humble speech.
I came here after watching Don't look up...all I remember from that movie was Peter Isherwell, and I thought he was a real person! How on earth I have never watched any of his movies before. He was just exquisite.
Me too! I just watched it and I came here to see if he really spoke that way in real life as well. He was fantastic!
what a lovely man he is!
@Montravius Daniel are you crazy? Calm the fuck down moron
Patricia sounds so bored
Eddie redmayne is a bitch
Jackson DeStefano that's all she is is bored.
Jackson DeStefano coz they are boring
That's her demeanor idiots
Shes dont like , won mark rylance
Did anybody recognize the extreme amounts of joy on Ruffalo's face when Mark Rylance won?! XD
Water Hazard he probably thought he won for a split second lol ....when he hears Patricia Arquette say Mark..Rylance (and inside he must’ve been like Damnnnn)
The most authentic actor alive today!
Well deserved Mark Rylance was brilliant in Bridge of Spies
Another performance that no one will ever remember!!!!
Yep, such a forgettable performance
Hardy or Ruffalo deserved this
Even 6 years later I still remember his performance. You're saying "no one" as if ALL people don't remember him but there are lots of people who's a Spielberg fan and remember Rylance's Oscar winning performance
Mark Rylance is such an amazing actor.
A very humble kind and nice man too.
This might be the best speech that I’ve heard at the Oscars ❤️ congratulations. Wonderful actor
Mark rylance is a superb actor. Watch the series wolf hall.
since corona put me into lockdown i binge watched wolf hall , i especially love his scenes with thomas moore
He is like the definition of a nice and humble person!
A Performance so great that put Hanks in awe.
I'm glad he was very humbled about it. Still love you SLY
The most competitive category this year, just look at all the great performances that weren't even nominated. And btw awesome to see Mark win!!
Mark Also he deserves win the golden globe
I'm happy because Mark won
like it or not the result
Tom also deserved to win, one of them two before stallone
HAPPY ! THANKS ACADEMY
My favourite. What an Interesting actor he is.. was brilliant in bridge of spies.
Standing man!!!
watch wolf hall
Would it help?
Yesssss
Stoiki muzeik indeed!!
Patricia wished that Stallone received that oscar, watch golden globes and you will see that she is happy and clappling for Sly
tbh I thought it was gonna go to Tom Hardy or Sylvester Stallone
Stallone shoulda got it. His character was an original classic
Call me crazy but I think Sly Stallone should have won. He is not a good dramatic actor but his Rocky always was realistic, deep and very interesting
It would have been an insult to the craft of acting had Stallone won
Well deserved performance! Mark Rylance is such a great actor!
You deserved this, Thomas Boleyn
You know the category is stacked when the 5 nominees consisted of *Batman, Venom, Rambo, Hulk, and the BFG.*
Great Performance....
Great Movie....
Happy that he won...:)
I am so in awe of Rylance in Bridge of Spies. He single-handedly made me fall in love with this movie.
When this came from the TV, I was on my knees and closed my eyes, fingers crossed and I was just saying in my head "Sylvester Stallone, Sylvester stallone, Sylvester Stallone..." xD
This man’s voice in The BFG is soooo awesome. Loved that movie a ton.
I can't wait to see this man play the BFG. He is going to be perfect in the role.
Yes, it is. He is going to be fantastic.
+Sam Raffield What is BFG?
+alejandro zapata The big friendly giant
Jose Francisco Arellano Marquez Ohhhh. Thanks
alejandro zapata It's a book by Roald Dahl, it stands for Big Friendly Giant.
What a night.
Supporting Actress, ALICIA VIKANDER, first nomination, first win.
Supporting Actor, MARK RYLANCE, first nomination, first win.
Leading Actress, BRIE LARSON, first nomination, first win.
Lead Actor, LEONARDO DI CAPRIO, five nominations, first win, death of a meme.
such an iconic win! a massive out of nowhere win! YES 🙌🙌 i remember the outrage but whew the win aged extremely well
Yet another stacked year for best supporting actor. Literally anyone could've won and people would complain
Tom deserved the oscar
Hey he's rich and won a golden globe 🌎
amazed by his act in don't look up and triggered me to look him up, and realized he was in other movies I loved and had great impression of him without knowing who he is! now I am totally into this great actor!!!
And alas, like Rocky Balboa himself, Stallone loses the fight, but goes the distance. Life imitating art.
This guy deserved it. A true British gentleman. Hats off to SIR Mark Rylance.
It’s sad sly Stallone’s brother attacked this man on social media out of no reason other than pure jealousy because he felt his brother deserved this win more. Rylance has proven himself to be an amazing talent since this breakout role
His EQ is off the scale. Great speech.
I wanted Stallone to get it. He was superb in Creed
Stallone was robbed.
of those 5 nominees what Stallone did was the greatest achievement in acting, he took a character he's played since 1976 and made it fresh and deeply moving, the reason Rylance won is the average oscar voter is over 60 years old, they miss movies like bridge of spies the kinda movies gregory peck and james stewart used to make
Trump 2020 Nah, I saw the film when I was 22 and rented it from Family Video and was blown away by the film it was great. Tom Hanks was superb as always and Mark Rylance was phenomenal and was worthy of that Oscar Win! I saw Creed and while Stallone did great it was nothing compared to Rylance.
Watch Mark Rylance win Tony Awards. So hysterical!!
One of the few cases in Oscar history where literally anyone int he category could have won and they all would have been just as worthy.
