Hey ~ agree. I was surprised more are not reaching out to learn from those still practicing the old ways and applying to new days. Thx for posting.. and representing.
With all this technology and video games of distraction, who wants to waste there time making silly kachina dolls.Let alone learn from the elders. Its all about creature comforts and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!
thank-you for the video on the 'artwork' kachina carvers... I have 2 questions... I really like the turtle carvings... that's part of the emergence or creation stories of this wondrous earth aren't they? Why do Hopi carvers carve them... what is their story? And by story I don't mean fiction, I mean storytelling of the Truth. Also I didn't see a bumblebee kachina... I don't think, and I have had dreams of a bumblebee kachina... Thank-you for your time and for your patience... these are valuable videos. Joan
+Kea Cannunpa Win Not sure how the Turtle fits with Hopi History. The Mayans believe the Earth rides on a Turtles back (Flat Earth, Domed). And the Hopi and Mayans are connected at the Hip. On my blog you will see a pic of a Mayan figure and last trip to Hopi Orayvi I found another one on the cliffs facing south.
My uncle loved carving kachina. He sold at the Hopi culture for many years until his unexpected passing in 2002. I hope to learn one day.
The Hopi need more Kachina Carvers, for sure. thxs
