    Nice review of what is a tremendous car. I have one in volcanic orange and it just makes you smile every time. It’s as darty as an mx5 but with 5 times more power!

      Hi Peter, have you owned any of the previous gen of Megane RS? I had a 265 Cup and am about to test drive the new Trophy this weekend so I was looking for comparisons to the previous models suspension settings. Is the new car as unforgiving on bumpy roads as the 3rd gen Megane RS? thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

      Hi Paul. I haven’t had any of the previous megane’s but the Trophy is a fantastic car! It is a firm ride but if you’re used to any kind of sports car then it will be fine on most surfaces. When you do get a bumpy road then you will feel it but it’s not going to rattle your teeth! I had a Toyota GT86 and I would say it’s on a par with that. The acceleration is out of this world! I would say that you will need a second car for the snow as the tyres aren’t really for the winter. Enjoy your test drive!

      @@peterevanson Thanks for the reply Peter, I've had a busy weekend testing Trophy 300, 280 RS Cup on 18's, i30 N hatch and i30 N fastback at different dealers. After driving both versions of the Megane with cup chassis I have to say they are much more refined with the damping and spring rates than the last RS. With the old car you could say to the millimetre how big that pebble was you'd driven over which made it a great track and B road car but a difficult car to live with as a daily. The new RS has nailed the damping, it's a firm car but not harsh even on some really terrible patched roads. It's certainly on top of my list to replace my Golf R when the time comes.

      I’m so glad you enjoyed the Trophy. I live in Scotland with some of the best driving roads around. Was out today along a nice winding road and it’s really at home on these type of roads. The more you drive this car, the more you will feel at one with it. After a 50 mile run, I got out thinking, I am here already!😄. No stress, no hassle. Just our fun. Brilliant!

    Hi Josh, thanks for taking time to review the car but a little thing that irritated me about the video was the audio levels when the music kicked in it was a lot higher than your voice level and pretty distracting to the point I almost turned off the video. Cheers Paul

    The Mégane RS and RS TROPHY have a wet clutch system (Getrag 6DCT451 afaik). The Clio RS had a dry clutch.
    Also, up shifts are very fast, down shifts are fast (mb not as fast as a PDK, but still fast), imo.

      Matt at the Renault Garage said its the same gearbox as the Clio 220 Trophy but hey, whatever it is doesnt matter 😂 I've driven plenty of DSG gearboxes and it's not quite as sharp.

      @@JoshKemponcars The Clio RS has the Getrag 6DCT250 dry clutch built in. That's way too small for the Mégane RS. Anyhow, as you said, doesn't matter.

    There not the trophy wheels there the 280 wheels and no rev matching it's a bearing turbo that's why hardly no lag it's also got an uprated head compared to the 280 the disk size is 355 as well and it's also lighter than the 280 with its race battery and lighter wheels disk and exhaust 👍

    • @johnboy2436
      @johnboy2436 2 роки тому

      There is no uprated head between models... turbo on trophy has a "ceramic coated ball bearing in the turbo" which spools quicker...discs are same size on both too... except the trophy is dual-material cast iron and aluminium lighter discs... pointless really they get replaced in 10k miles if u drive it proper. never ever seen anyone say the heads are difference and see info on this anywhere so im saying its not??

    I drive a m140i and totally agree with your comment in cars off this size and price 300hp is all you need 8 times out of 10.
    My car with more than 340hp 🤔 in sport plus mode (race) in anything but perfect conditions is down right dangerous.......love it but it's just bonkers.
    If this car had adaptive suspension as an optional extra I may have considered it but as I'm 51 now and like that bit more comfort sometimes rather than track day car suspension.
    Nice car though.....like I've said in other reviews on this car 'you want comfy, buy a cushion' 😎

    Ok so can someone tell me why anyone would spend almost 60k on the new A45s Mercedes if this car point to point is as fast as anyone of the so called hyper hatchbacks

    • @JoshKemponcars
      @JoshKemponcars  5 років тому +2

      Brand snobbery! Simple as that, personally I don't see the fascination with the A45? I drove one about a year ago and found it quite boring and numb.

    "It's not all about BHP" has anyone who has an interest in these types of cars ever said that, ever?
    Agreed it is a track focused car no doubt but people like numbers and hot hatchbacks are about numbers.
    9 times out of 10 these cars will be driven in traffic with the odd little blast as and when possible.
    Numbers are what we talk about down the pub, what's the point otherwise might as well stick with the 280.
    On a different note, I spoke to a dealer regarding this car as I was interested as I've never had a fast Renault.
    Once I'd spec'd this car up to the level I'd like you know sunroof, nice paint, toys that make the little differences it came in at over 35k now that put it too close to some serious hardware with serious badges.
    Now I hear all the people saying "your a badge snob" 35k for a hatchback.... you bet I am.
    I'm sure it's a fantastic car but I dont drive like a track hero I like nice things and sorry but 35k for a Renault no matter how great it drives is always gonna come second best

    • @JoshKemponcars
      @JoshKemponcars  5 років тому +2

      Thanks for the comment 👍Appreciate your honest feedback, I was more referring to its rivals in this sector. For me a true hothatch is all about how it drives, I couldn't care less if it has parking assist, sunroof, Lane assist and all the other unnecessary "add ons".

    • @markrhoden68
      @markrhoden68 5 років тому +1

      @@JoshKemponcars there's a ongoing debate regarding these types of cars I'm sure you've heard it before.
      The people who can afford this kind of car £30+ aren't generally in their 20s there in their mid 30 and like creature comforts as you mentioned above, so who is this car and its ilk aimed at?
      I'm no longer a young man so I can afford to own and run these types of cars but saying that many people of my generation are buying bigger, as powerful if not more powerful cars.
      So who buys them?

    • @JoshKemponcars
      @JoshKemponcars  5 років тому +1

      Agreed Mark! It's a bit of a strange environment... Personally, I've never owned a new car because its just not worth it and there are plenty of other more compelling hot hatches out there for a lot less than £30-£35k! I. E. Fiesta ST, Abarth 595, Audi S1 to name a few...

    • @markrhoden68
      @markrhoden68 5 років тому +1

      My 280 was spec'd to £35K but cost me £25K with just 650 miles on the clock. It's not always sensible to buy new 😉
