- Welcome back loyal viewers to another Monthly Collection Update. These months are flying by way too quickly. In this month's video I'll be showcasing the best and most recent editions I've added to my collection - basically everything that's joined the Wilsonian during the month of August. After a prior video I hunted down Pan's Labyrinth (gold cover) and now I'm off again to get From Dusk til Dawn. Great presentation -- you don't short shrift the embossing, spot gloss and the like. And I don't have to endlessly watch the presenter's face as they tell you all the trivia they know about a certain movie before just showing the darn thing. A+

Thanks mate. Yeah that Alita was shocking for the price. Not sure if it's Amazon to blame for setting the price but it was definitely not worth $200 bucks. Especially considering Black Barons in the Czech Republic are doing a world exclusive art steelbook in a gorgeous One Click with custom sleeves for around about the same price.
Such a pleasure seeing your new editions. Love that Big trouble in little china edition, my second Carpenter's favorite after The thing and yes, before Halloween; and that Sleepwalkers bust, simply amazing. And now a little request: would be great if at the end of your videos you could tell us in advance your favorite future coming editions, that way we could try to get them too before they get sold out or the price skyrockets. I get a lot of my info on upcoming releases through the community forums on Hi Def Ninja way before they up for preorder so I'm aware of what's coming, what the artwork is like, how limited the items are and how much they are going to cost when they do finally go live. I don't know how entertaining it would be to list off what I've got on preorder, especially not having any artwork to showcase - I could always include it in the into text under my videos. What's coming out and where to get them from. That could be helpful.

Awesome pick ups as usual dude, nice job. Still waiting on the stuff from the Indicator sale to arrive here in Australia, it's been taking a while because of the delayed shipping from the sale numbers. One of the ones I got was the William Castle Vol 1 set actually, the movies look like a lot of fun. Funnily enough those 88 Films releases are exactly the same as the ones I've been meaning to catch up on and buy too. Really interested to check out Candyman 2 in particular

Thanks, yeah as soon as I looked into the movies that were part of the box set I knew they'd be to my interest. William Castle seems like a legend haha. I think I'll make The Tingler the first one I watch, the plot sounds so intriguing. And yeah I will for sure, I've been keeping an eye on all your videos and I look forward to seeing which ones you picked up. I might even do a video myself of the sale items I got actually since my partner and I just started our own channel! Keep it up with the videos man, they're always great to watch and I'm sure a lot of other collectors really appreciate you showing off the range of stuff that you pick up from the various labels :)

How do you come about finding out when these premium editions come out or to see what has come out in the past? You seem to know a lot about specific companies that release different versions especially from other countries and I find that very cool. Shows a whole level of collecting and interest I don’t find most people are into but is a commitment I respect. I always buy movies but I usually go for just standard blu rays cause of price range but collecting for the artwork is an awesome commitment my friend.
Thanks bud. I guess it all just comes down to time... spending time on the collector's forums like Bluray.com and Hi Def Ninja, talking to other collectors about what's coming out and sharing artwork when it gets revealed. Spending time visiting the companies websites. And spending time on social media sites like Facebook - interacting with other collectors, learning and sharing info on each release. I've found the Steelbook thread on the community forum of Hi Def Ninja is the best place to learn all bout future premium releases... what the art work is like, how much the editions cost, and when and where they'll be available to preorder. Premium collecting can be such a cut throat business, a lot of collector's tend to miss out if they don't know exactly when and where an edition is going to be going up for preorder. I guess I just spend a lot of my free time gaining all that info so I can continue to grow my collection. It takes time but to me it's worth it. Cheers 👍

Mark- One suggestion on the Spider-Man resin head. To help it stay, buy some mini magnet discs, and could put a couple inside the steelbook, front, so it would be under the head on the other side. I would think it would help. Not sure why it would not work.

Thanks for watching. Yeah, I've never really said what I do for a living. I guess I didn't want to make the channel about money - how much I make and how much I spend. I just wanted it to showcase all the cool artwork that exists and each month show how my collection has grown. Cheers 👍

I think there is only one way to be more of the quintessential collector and that would be to have a more specific overall focus on impossible to obtain videos. I imagine Quentin Tarantino would have some stuff that would blow any of us away.
Yeah mate, I bet Tarantino has some absolute treasures in his collection. I don't really look for videos anymore tbh. I've always liked the idea of trying to collect all of the original Video Nasties on VHS but so many are getting released on Blu Ray now, I'd rather collect them on that format. A friend called Scott here in Australia runs a Videoholics group I'm a member of and his collection of old vhs is amazing. I always love seeing his collection when he shows it off... He has so many old horror titles I've never even heard of and may never get a release on disc. I love the format as it's where I started out but I don't actively buy them anymore. Cheers.

Yes mate, I order a lot of stuff direct from websites. I've been ordering aboard for years and haven't really come across too many problems luckily. The biggest issue is the cost of shipping to Australia. Most of the time that can be as much as the item, and sometimes even more which sucks.

The One click of "From Dusk Till Dawn" is amazing, although I don't like the outer box at all. But the stuff inside - wow!!! 😍
So the "Flimsy cardboard edition" of Alita went from completely insane overpriced to just ridiculously overpriced... 🤔
I guess 50,- or 60,- US $ woukd have been fair for the release.
I mean, they didn't even put in a steelbook or something, just a frickin' keepcase and the book!
And as the icing on the cake Amazon ships it in a simple envelope to make sure it gets dents and creases. 😤

By the way, you mentioned the German "Thor" helmet edition in another comment. Too bad, I sold my copy years ago. It was just too big and I didn't want it anymore.

When it came out it was not that big of a success, really. I remember after a few weeks the editions were sold for 50,-€ in one particular "Media Markt" ( a German electronics retail chain)!
Well, I should have bought them all and put them away... 🙄
But my wife would have killed me. 😋

I'm lucky to have a collector friend in Germany who helps shipping over any Media Markt exclusives but yeah mate, you're right, shipping from Germany to me isn't cheap but most editions I choose are totally worth it. And damn dude - 50 Euro for that Thor helmet 😁 I'd have jumped on that offer. I hope you got a good price for yours still sealed? Thanks again for watching, cheers.

Yeah, that was a nice price for the edition. There were four to six of them that obviously nobody wanted to buy. I should have bought them all and stored them.
But back then who knew that this Marvel thing would get so big and that there still would be interest for that edition today...
And the thought of shipping such a big box safely later on when it's sold was another issue.
Funny that you celebrate German editions - people here keep complaining that we never get decent editions like in other countries! 😁

I must say, after seeing your videos, we are SOOOOOOO missing out here in Canada. I have not seen any of these collections even hinted at here. Jealous just doesn't cover it.
We're in the same boat dude. Australia doesn't get these types of editions either. I have to import the majority of these editions in and shipping can be a really killer sometimes.

I was more than happy with my rental box cover for the dusk till dawn blu ray movie $2 from the charity shop ..... Your edition does look ok though :-) ...............Best art work from the collection has to be the front runner dvd, Love the buy one get one free art work and the 2 retro price stickers how they done a yellow and white colour tone :o)

Loved Alita Battle Angel brilliant movie as is Ex Machina which l received today on 4k from Amazon USA with a slip cover. I'm very annoyed that Australia don't do slip covers for there releases so l tend to order from the US costs more but not much you can do about that. Yeah I thought Alita was a great movie and the Film Arena release is a stunner. A beautiful edition for an awesome movie. I'm the same too mate... hate the fact we get slip jipped here in Aus. I guess it has something to do with fewer sales and we just don't have the same numbers as the US or UK. I'm not in Melbourne dude, I'm in Tassie. We fly into Melbourne regularly though whenever there's a gig or theatre show we want to watch. It's not too far away and the air fairs are usually pretty good. Cheers.

That's awesome news mate. Yeah, regarding Terror Train... I passed on Ronin's release because 88 Films in the UK have announced it as their 41st release in the Classic Slashers Series so I'll be grabbing that edition instead to continue on the collection. I saw it years ago and remember thinking how funny it was seeing David Copperfield in it. I'm looking forward to watching it again when I manage to grab that. If the transfer doesn't turn out to be any good like some of the others in that range then I may track down the Ronin one at a later date. I know a couple of collectors here in Aus who got it with The Mummy's Revenge and they've been saying great things about the release. Cheers bud!

I picked up the Dusk till Dawn One-Click as well. So amazing. My only complaint is I wish the one-click box did not have the canvas texture on it. Not sure that was such a good idea.
Agree with Cinema-Museum. I canceled my existing pre-orders and won't order from them again. Besides being way late on everything they were Jerks when I reached out. Done with them.
@@mg-ThisHandleIsSoStupid Mate, that FDTD One Click is amazing. Congrats on grabbing that one. I agree the outer box texture was an odd choice. The front of mine has bubbled just a little at the top which is a bit annoying. The slips inside are amazing though and they've done such a great job on them. And yeah mate... I know a few collector's who've had a run in with Carlo at CM and don't have nice things to say about him. Shame because I do believe his editions are really well made and the extra gifts they come with are a nice touch. I too have had a couple of bad experiences chasing orders so I doubt I'll be buying anything from them again.

I originally started adding links in the description of my videos but it took so long to add them and no one was really commenting if they were helpful or not so I stopped adding them on my last few. Unfortunately, with a lot of these premium releases, they're so limited, by the time I come to film my videos they're already long since sold out. The best place to keep up to date with what premium editions are coming out in the future is on the Steelbook Thread on the community forum on Hi Def Ninja... This is where I find out about the majority of the releases. It's really helpful and get's updated all the time. www.hidefninja.com/community/forums/blu-ray-steelbook.39/. I hope this helps.

Nice buys! But I'm on the fence about these 1 Click editions still. One of my fave movies is Let The Right One In, and noticed they had like 3 different covers. I got the one closest to the original movie poster, and cool how blood appears on her face when the covers turned. But then saw the 1 Click Version. I love the movie so much, I was tempted. But other than the cover variations - it's all the same things inside right?
How did that get started? I mean, why doesn't KIMCHI et al just sell them separately and offer a discount if more than one version is ordered? (15% off 2nd cover, 30% off 3rd) I may have been more tempted that way? But is there a movie you wouldn't buy the 1 Click of? Say From Dusk Till Dawn - you really like Cover A, yet B and C are nice. Just stick with the A version then? I guess what I'm getting at is regret - do you regret getting a 1 Click of a title that you realize only the B cover is the most decent. Or buy the C version of a so-so movie, and grow to like it more and wish you had gotten the 1 Click instead? Are you buying these because the workmanship and art will really appreciate over time? Or you're truly a fan of the movie, and it's different perspectives the covers convey? I'm sure the 1 Click bug will bite me on a release somewhere, I just won't be sure why? LOL Indicator looks really cool, and dang I missed the sale! I LOVE China Syndrome! May have to score that regardless.
Cheers bud. Yeah those One Clicks are an acquired taste I guess but there's definitely collector's out there who enjoy owning them. They almost always sell out. Most of the time the steelbook is the same in all 3 editions but on the odd occasion there are multiple steelbooks included in the one click. Film Arena's Terminator 2 Maniacs had 2 different steelbooks included and more recently I think BluFans Venom release had 3 different steelbooks. Depending on the company most editions come with either the 4K disc, the 3D edition, and the standard blu in the 3rd. They also mostly have different photo booklets, behind the scenes info and art/character cards too in each of the individual slips, so buying a one click, even though you're mostly getting the same movie 3 times, there's a lot of differences and gear that's provided in each slip, be it full slip, single lenti or double lenti, which is cool.
Yeah, more recently I just picked up the lenticular slip of Black Panther from WeEt - As much as I loved the look of their One Click box, the artwork across all other editions already featured on the BluFans releases so I didn't need to double dip when I already owned the art on that release. Earlier than that I chose just the double lenticular of Sicario 2 from KimchiDVD because I didn't like the look of the other editions in the OC.
The draw for me owning an OC or any premium is definitely the artwork. As a lover of unusual packaging and collector's editions since the early VHS days, From an early age I loved displaying my box sets and cool packaging in ways that would show off the art and design. Every premium I've ever bought, I already owned the movie as a standard release so I'm not buying them for the movie, although my choice to pick up a premium is not just based on the beautiful artwork but also based on if I enjoyed the movie. For example, I recently passed on both Shane Black's The Nice Guys and Hunter Killer premiums because I already own the movies on standard release and didn't think they were movies worth the premium price tag. Although saying that, I'm sure if I ever saw them cheap I'd probably pick them up for to add to the collection just for the artwork alone. Cheers.
I hear you on the artwork. Some of them are REALLY nice! I have a small glass cabinet where I display my premiums, and I think for me it's more for my fave films I display. Recently got the Tru Blu release of Truth w/Cate Blanchet and Robert Redford. The cover's kinda psychedelic with Cate's face on the front, which I'm not too keen on. But I think it's such an important movie on the history of CBS and Dan Rather, and the integrity of journalism in the new millennium, it's front and center for me. As for fave artwork that always makes me smile when I see it, I'm a suck for Ernest & Celestine. And I really prize the Plain Archive B release (her shielding him on the bed with an umbrella) But the quality some of these companies put into these releases, I guess the 1 Click would be a prize to have if the artwork and all merited it. Glad to hear though you're not TOTALLY hypnotized by them all. LOL
GREAT HAUL THIS MONTH! I have recently started to go back to looking for older movies I only have on VHS. It has been hard finding some because they are OOP (out of print). Where do you look for official (not bootleg) movies that are reasonably priced, besides Ebay?
Thanks John. Rediscovering movies you haven't seen since VHS can be great. Or sometimes just as bad as you remember... I just picked up Indicator's release of John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Hadn't seen it since VHS... I was hoping it may have aged gracefully....nope 😂 just as crappy as I remember. I don't ever buy bootleg and I have so many places around the world I buy from. Amazon obviously being one of the biggest. Zavvi too. JB Hifi and Sanity here in Australia. D&T Mailorder and Pretz in Germany. I'll only really use eBay if it's something long since OOP and none of the stores have it anymore. Cheers.
@@wilsonianmoviemuseum8420 Thank you for the help. One last question. You have recently introduced me to KimchiDVD. I was looking for a one click Box of the Fifth Element and of course it's sold out. They have a wish list option but no date on re release. My question is in your experience has Kimchidvd ever made more copies once they sell out from a couple years ago or am I out of luck and have to find it somewhere else like eBay?
@@spargotee You're welcome mate. Like all premium companies, KimchiDVD make each edition in limited quantities so once the total amount has sold out, they never reprint more. In my experience that 'Wish List' option is pointless for an edition that has since sold out. I don't think they'll ever get any more in stock to sell. I think that option is more for people who missed preordering first time round - and before the edition is released. There's always some people who cancel orders last minute or their payment method fails and the remaining copies go back up for sale but are again quickly snapped up. I imagine the people who click on the Wish List option are the ones who are contacted first if this should happen and are given first dibs on the left over stock. I think your only option now would be eBay, or sellers on the Hi Def Ninja or Media Psycho forums. Good luck on your search buddy. Cheers.

I didn't even know that collector websites/communities like that existed (I'm reserving my Big Trouble in Little China through SHOUT! Factory). Sorry for this, but one last, last question. Do you only have one 4K/Bluray player, or several. I notice you have movie formats from multiple regions. If just one player, which one?

Hi, yes I've got a basic Paprika DVD, a really nice Tokyo Godfathers collector's edition on DVD and a more recent gorgeous limited edition of Perfect Blue on Blu - I featured that in one of my earlier Monthly Pickups as it's still so new. Thanks for the heads up on Millennium Actress... I don't own any copies of that and would love to add that one to the collection. Cheers.

Haha I've so far found 7 different copies. 2 will be joining the collection - the Zavvi steelbook with exclusive slip cover and the German retro VHS edition. The others I can live without. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the Premium companies do for JW3... Film Arena and Nova Media should come up with something really special.

Yeah mate... I missed out on all those 88 Slashers until you came along 😂. There's loads others I miss but the way I see it is there's always ways to track them down eventually... some will get cheaper, others more expensive, but half the fun is tracking them down and finally getting to add them to the collection. I missed a German edition of the first Thor movie with a display model of Thor's helmet... I once lost out on an eBay bid for it and I haven't actively chased it since but I know one day I'll get one... Just has to be the right time and the right place and I'll find one eventually.

lucalone um, have you seen how much is in the video? Most of the stuff has extra packaging over the releases, so thats more time taking everything out like slips. And whats so interesting about the discs/disc art?

How do you keep this collection free of dust and cob webs?
Cob webs aren't really an issue and when it get's dusty, I just get the duster out and give it a once over. I'm moving stuff around in the room all the time so I usually dust a section while I'm moving stuff around.

Nah, I don't really want to state how much each item cost me. If someone want's to know how much an item cost, I'll happily reply with the answer, or they can simply look it up themselves online and decide if it's worth buying. I don't want to turn my videos into being about how much I've spent... I want them to be about showcasing the artwork. Cheers.
