The thing about Josh being "second monitor content" is that his audio mixing and his voice are so good that it's fantastically pleasant to listen to him while doing something else
Great Attenborough. I really hope you continue the full trilogy blind. It is always very enjoyable to watch a full saga blind playthrough to see how all the character story lines and fate of the galaxy play out, and someones first reactions to them. There are some potentially very moving moments (both heartwarming and heartbreaking) that can happen, if you follow the same save all the way through.
@mando_dablord2646 I have done full renegade options of all 3 games but there is always one option I can't pick it's in me3 and involves krogans. Trying to remain spider free but if you know you know
Really excited for this play through, throughly enjoyable so far. it’s refreshing to see someone who is not afraid to be renegade for once. Although it’s slightly painful seeing Josh run by and miss out on so many side quests in the environment knowing that they really add some well written quirkiness to the experience.
Awesome to see you playing Mass Effect, think you will throughly enjoy the story. Hope enough for you to want to continue into the rest of the trilogy.
My first time full play through of all 3 games plus dlc ended up taking 160 hours all in all. Exploring all, planets scanning all and maxing out resources. It was fantastic.
This is still one of my favorite games series of all time. Glad you're getting to play it! I freaking love the fact that you charted a family tree for your characters. Peak content, Josh, keep it up!
Such a shame we never got another good go at the mass effect series after the triology. I'd love a game similar to Baldurs Gate with the ability to play as a Salarian or a Krogan.. or a Hanar!
Hey, he's letting chat make choices ... As opposed to doing something deliberately malicious, such as my black widow run ... where everyone Shepard has sex with dies soon after.
I absolutely love David Attenborough reading the codex :). Such great writing (and performance), shows what it takes to build a world like this, which I
Josh: soldier sounds too basic, pick a different class for me also Josh: picks Vanguard and proceeds to only ever put points in soldier skills I've been whelmed
0:43 that is the kind of democracy that rules in a family; I will listen to you, but i am still the boss, and you don't get an actual say, unless your opinion happens to align with mine. So Josh is actually our daddy. Confirmed.
I just realized that if the humans were as greedy as they are believed to be and kept the existence of the beacon a secret, then Sarin would not have had a reason to act or you forcing his hand that expedited the return of the reapers, while, assuming the crew would have triggered the beacon during carrying or research, would have the full knowledge of the Reaper's return and be able to better prepare for them.
In every conversation one character supports the "paragon" option and one the "renegade" option. There's an order of precedence which is which, so they might change which position they support depending on which other character is present. Wrex is the most renegade, so other characters like Ashley or Garrus who are usually that way inclined will support the paragon choice if he's there.
*sigh* I wish I could play the ME series for the first time again. I played the originals & the ME LE edition (after friend sent me a 'fix' to disable the mandatory EA launcher (even on Steam) so I could actually play the game I paid for! (I do despise EA for so many legitimate reasons!) A tip Josh... The ME series are also 'exploration' games. You missed a lot of codex entries, side quests & useful items by not looking around. Don't worry... Most of us made that mistake the first time! Hindsight is always wonderful. ☺ Enjoy the series, it's quite a ride. 👍
I get to live this through again too! Both here with Josh and i finally managed to get my gf to start playing ME last week, its so much fun to watch :D
As a DM I give experience for overcoming the *challenge* not for being a murder hobo. If a player does something cool and in character I will reward GM Inspiration (treated as Lucky). If a player does something heroic in character I reward Heroic Points (+1d6 to any 1d20 roll). I try to discourage: "can I roll thieves tools/I rolled a 5" and encourage: "I want to investigate/work on the trap by x,y,z" will lower the DC if they help with the narrative. I want ROLEPLAY not a readout of numbers. We roll enough numbers during Combat Initiative.
It's a pleasure to see a genuine playthrough of this game that isn't pre-planned to map to the morality system. It's also frustrating to see how much has been missed already, but I respect that's the tradeoff to wanting to see a genuine playthrough, and that the amount of dialogue in the older Bioware games doesn't necessarily make for good content.
The fact so much people bitchin about Josh not running/dashing shows how they don't enjoy games anymore. It's just go here, complete this, have done the other, go go go. It's a game, not homework!
I really thought that Josh was going to be silly about this in a way I would find mildly entertaining but ultimately frustrating and unsatisfying (see also Dragon Age Origins). I nearly didn't click at all, despite Josh being one of my favourite youtubers, Mass Effect being my favourite fictional setting and ME1 being my favourite game. I am so, so impressed by this playthrough. Josh is taking moral and ethical questions seriously and genuinely comprehending the military mindset that 99% of serious let's plays of this series entirely fail to even try to relate to. His Shepard is a proper, thoughtful paragade (aside from punching Manuel, which did seem like a warning sign that we may be in for shenanigans), and the roleplaying here is strong. I'm truly looking forward to seeing how Josh/Thorny processes and responds to many of the issues, big and small, that they will be faced with in this game and series, when normally I know before even starting a lets play exactly which idealistic, feelgood choices will be made in 90%+ of situations. Plus he went femshep, and I literally just finished watching Welonz's Mass Effect playthrough yesterday. So this is a good day and I can stave off my own next playthrough a little while longer.
They hired John Ceiling to write the intro scene music, and he was like "It's been a long walk, getting from there to here, it's been a long time..." So they fired him and hired Jack Wall. Also this game's Karth is way better than Ashley.
Is it just me or is the volume of this video on UA-cam kinda low? Maxing out my phone's volume and it's still pretty quiet and the difference to ad volume seems even more stark than usual (yes I know the ads are intentionally obnoxiously loud but this is worse)
Eeeeee I hope you have a good time with this game. It's dated as hell (especially the first one), but holds up well imo. It's one of those games that I get an itch to replay every few years. Maybe by watching you play, I can calm that itch for at least a year. That... or I'll immediately have to go play it.
@@bigzed7908 What I see on the screen looks like a woman to me. Speaks like a woman, walks like a woman, is created as a woman. Oh! It's a woman! I'm sorry if it offends someone feelings (nope)
How envious am i that you get to experience the trilogy for the first time. Enjoy!
I can"t play without certain mods anymore (mostly for 3 than makes the ending better).
Hey just remember, we all played this for the first time, the first time.
The thing about Josh being "second monitor content" is that his audio mixing and his voice are so good that it's fantastically pleasant to listen to him while doing something else
I'm 100% certain that it was a bit but, referring to inimitable Keith David as "the president from Rick & Morty" dealt so much psychic damage
And not noticing Seth Green either
Yeah, everyone knows it's Vice President Keith David.
We can now see Keith as commander zavala now at least
Ngl, I know him as Spawn.
Everyone knows its Arbiter
Great. Now I need to suddenly play the Mass Effect series all over again and make new choices.
Thanks to the Josh Strife Craze.
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BACON!!!
Ah shit here we go again.
Watched so many playthroughs of this, never gets old seeing people experiencing it for the first time
Ah new second monitor Josh content. Looking forward to these.

I don't get why chat complains on how Josh is playing. You decided how he should behave by picking Ruthless!
They're dumb
Who wants to play as a Renegade?
😁🖐️
Who wants to do Renegade actions?
😔✊
@mando_dablord2646 I have done full renegade options of all 3 games but there is always one option I can't pick it's in me3 and involves krogans. Trying to remain spider free but if you know you know

Oh what I'd give to revisit this franchise for the first time again. Hope you love it, Josh!

As big a fan as Josh is of other Bioware RPGs, I'm honestly surprised hes never played Mass Effect.
This is going to be a joy to see. Josh first play through of this series.
This is still one of my favorite games series of all time. Glad you're getting to play it! I freaking love the fact that you charted a family tree for your characters. Peak content, Josh, keep it up!
The missed opportunity for a Thirst E Shepard...
Damn it, replay imminent.
My little brother is playing in Dallas Texas dreamhack mtg tourney soon. Also so excited for mass effect
I've never had so much fun reading/listening to the codex
Such a shame we never got another good go at the mass effect series after the triology. I'd love a game similar to Baldurs Gate with the ability to play as a Salarian or a Krogan.. or a Hanar!
Josh: Doesn't trust the keepers
Also Josh: Misses the quest that allows you to investigate the keepers
Not really that engaging/interesting quest imo. Barely more than a collectathon.
They only give you the results in ME2... which is way too late for plot reasons
@@Dustyscalps Yup
@@VolrinSeth Yeah, of course. But it's really hard to miss honestly, and he walked by it twice. Just funny.

So cool to see Josh playing mass effect for the first time.
Here I am honestly thinking about continuing to watch today live. Fuckin' love this playthrough so far.
Josh Strife Hayes the first human Spectre!
God help us all 😂
Hey, he's letting chat make choices ...
As opposed to doing something deliberately malicious, such as my black widow run ... where everyone Shepard has sex with dies soon after.
I don't know why, but the line "Is that fast travel... no, it's the public Wi-Fi" is really funny to me.
; I've never played this myself, by the way, so I don't know better. I just thought it was funny.
A ME blind run with Josh, this is frikking amazing!
Need a Schedule on this.
Josh I envy you!

That Matt Berry impression was chef's kiss.
You discovered the Vanguard playstyle without even using the Vanguard powers! 1:07:10
2:52:12 where you learn paragon Shep and renegade Shep are both ruthless.
Almalexia be praised.
1:30:35 The Matriarch, voiced by Marina Sirtis known as Counselor Deana Troi, and Demona among other roles.
I love how many big names are in these games. Martin Sheen as TIM, Keith David as Anderson, Carrie Ann Moss as Aria, etc.
Just in time for the blue ray project, josh strife hayes confirmed fbi?
The best youtuber playing one of the best games of all time?

Wales isn't a real place, he's lying.
I have only played on xbox so electronics is done like a rhythm game so was confused by the frogger kind of thing
If he keeps up the codex reading, someone more ambitious than me could do a whole voice mod.
"A warning about Mass Effect Andromeda" I actually like that better than the actual story. XD

One of my favorite trilogy games of all time. I rented the first two at Blockbuster and played them all night. 😂 The best memories!
That music man gonna have to play this for the 20th time.
I love the roleplay. Very consistent.
"you buy steam games and you dont play them, well that's depression."

The codex entries are such gold hahaha
Great opening of the video!
I love how he keeps saying "We're at war!" when the game starts during a relative time of peace. The Earth Alliance is not at war with anyone. lol
omg he never played it before. what a ride
Bless his little heart thinking that any of the background choices make a difference in the game. 🤣
Garrus was my main man for all games such a nice npc!
1:55:04 is for your JCU section. Beautiful.
the guns are so loud on this game!!!! I always get deaf when i open the game for the first time to adjust the volume.
All the gear, no idea - imho worth of Josh Strife Sais
And ... all the soldier players took it personally. XD
7:31 people and josh seem to forget that he didnt make a Rhyme he made a Poem. He said Poem the very first time and then Rhyme every other lol
OMG!!! First he plays Fallout NV now Mass Effect?! Is it Christmas already?! I'm so exited! Now he just needs to play VtMB and I can die happy ♥

It's funny listening to chat pitch a fit over suboptimal play. It's fine not to do everything perfectly the first time through, I say.
