Christine Margaret Keeler (born 22 February 1942 and died 4 December 2017) was a former model and showgirl.
Her meeting with society osteopath Stephen Ward at Murray's Cabaret Club in London drew her into fashionable circles.
During the height of the Cold War, Christine Keeler had intimate relationships with both a married government minister, John Profumo, and a Soviet diplomat.
A shooting between two of her other lovers prompted the press to look into her, revealing that her affairs could endanger national security.
Profumo denied any wrongdoing in the House of Commons but later admitted that he had lied. This incident became known as the Profumo affair, it would wreck many lives - both personal and professional, it would bring down Harold Macmillan's Conservative government in 1963, and one of the leading protagonists - Stephen Ward would by his own hand as a result.
