@@FishFray I tried to filmed an episode for my channel a couple weeks ago. It’s a lot harder than it looks! Got a few bobber downs on camera and landed one a little over 30 lbs. Being from Michigan myself, I think You, chiefz and XXL do a great job!
That same thing that happened to you at the beginning of this video happened to me twice today. granted I was fishing with bass gear using a spinner not expecting a salmon this early so I’m not surprised he got off. My drag was super lose. Blew my mind to see a salmon in the river on august 4th though, especially where I’m at.
Nice footage, Fray! Just picked up chartreuse and 2 other colors. I switched out the hooks with gamakatsu big river bait hooks. Gonna throw these in my river here in WA tomorrow. It’s a glacial river so very low visibility currently.
@@WildUrbanAdventures funny enough, same situation happened to me, I had called twice and no reply, but the owner did actually call me back yesterday (10/18) and said they were shipping today! I ordered on the 29th of September. He was extremely nice and did say he was a bit behind due to these videos (which he mentioned is a good problem haha). He’s a one man show and all handmade by him, so, he’s working on them! Hopefully you hear from him soon.
Fray, love the videos man! Does the hook gap on the arctic spinners make you nervous in Michigan? The ones Ilthey send me are right on the hairy edge in terms of hook gap.
You can gwt them with number 7 and number 5 blades....a number 7 is hard to reel in in fast water, but they will stay lower in the water column on a steady retrieve. Arctics a great salmon/ steelhead. I have good luck w glow green.....pink body with black skirt is a coho killer. All black or all white with a silver blade will catch a a fair amount of small mouths.
A fantastic job well done on catching this beauty of a fish, wow is it ever. Now that for sure gave you a fight while you were reeling it in. It's all worth it for something like that.
Are you guys fishing Lake Huron watershed or Lake Michigan. I never know which side you are on. Not looking for exact location, just witch Great Lake they come from.
@@FishFray I fished in the Manistee river out of Welston. Below the Tippy dam before the 2 big bends in the river. Nailed my first, 16 lbs 33 in , 5 years ago. Ohio fishing sucks why do I waste my time down here?
I've witnessed a guy catch a big male king at the lowell dam ( flat river) using a firetiger bass blade type spinner . Watched it come right up and smash it just before guy was about to pull the lure out of the water
What area of Michigan do you fish? I’m trying to plan a trip for kings next year just don’t exactly know where to go in Michigan because I’ve never fished there I’m from NE Ohio. Been to NY but the salmon fishing seems way slower there than it is up in Michigan
How are you liking you Piscfun reel? Is it a 3 or 4? I see tape on the knob wondering if you cut down the ball. Just paired my 4 with a 9'4' Redline. Hoping to get lucky.
Hey fray good job...you do a good job getting people informed and how you are Do what you do..and inspire people to try.. I got my first salmon this sept...I have wanted to talk to you..but email address Did not work..might me my fault..my close head injury causes me to make mistakes Can you try again...if not I understand Again great job..keep them coming
Must be blind with such great footage, but does your spinner have single hook or treble hook?Unbelievable some of the footage you got in this video. congrats!!!
Currently struggling to get a coho bite, used spawn bags, skein, jigs, flies, you name it. Using hi viz main line with only the bobber on it. Are salmon very picky about split shot? Haven’t been using too much just in case. Any tips appreciated. Love your videos man!
U do know salmon or steelhead eggs can't hatch less they live there adult life in saltwater.. lake Michigan is no saltwater.. no salmon egg s ever hatch.. look it up the DNR will tell u the same just ask
Salmon also go back to the river they are born in. Funny that we still catch salmon and steelhead in rivers that haven't been stocked in 10yrs. Besides the fact that all our stocked fish have clipped adipose fins. Most fish I catch aren't clipped. Also when I was younger I used to catch shiner and sucker minnows for the local bait shops. I caught thousands of salmon smolt in creeks and rivers during times of the year that fish weren't being stoked. As irrelevant as your statement is it's also bullshit.
far out those clear water shots was awesome as especially wen the lure was going through the water and out of nowhere a salmon gets hooked.
Yah! It’s almost as they are at the perfect depth and wow those mouths are big lol
Great releases Fray...keep the videos going...later in the run...the spinner bite only gets better!
Been making my own salmon spinners for years! They are deadly for sure.👍👍👍👍 great footage!
Nice! I've caught them on Fire tiger crank baits before also. Something about the Chartuse color.
That was awesome footage of the take on that spinner!
Always the shot I'm looking for !

My favorite is the #5 firetiger double blade. Seriously a coho killer! Never caught one on a king....
Never disappoint
Keep the great content coming
Great video!
Love to see you still making content fray!
I saw it last year and I got 6 so far. Several swipes as well. I had to buy a 2nd one because the first is bent bad. Everyone should try them.
Awesome! I find that usually I can bend them back but they don't last forever ! Worth it!
Where do you find the lure at? I’ve looked around a little bit and can’t seem to find them
Tangled tackle is where i got mine. But i see them in most bait shops in Northern Michigan
Had one last year I caught around 20 fish on one spinners. I straightened it out so many times. It looked like it had been through a war..
@@mreme1591 If you're in south west MI, D&R sports center has them. Great local shop
Is this a tributary to the st joe river?
love the video!! I’ve been using them for pike and bass fishing and will be going up north this weekend to do some salmon fishing!

Hey fray...why do you use the center pin
So mucb...is it the same as fly rod.
The dollar store here has a bunch of different thundersticks what kind do I buy the regular one the deep jr or what

You can order online on their web site. Very affordable.
Very affordable but order early! Once September hits you won’t receive them till the run is over
Loved that footage at 7:00 👍😎
Glad you liked it !

Have you noticed anything in regards to water temps in relation to when the spinner bite is on?
High pressure they bite
Great footage and action r u still in michigan fishing or somewhere else?
I know you catch a lot of steelies on bobber rigs, but do you ever catch them on spinners?
Losing that second one looked rough man
Literally spinners is the best way in my opinion to get these kings especially west mi
Thanks soo much man for putting me on em!!

Who makes this Artic Spinner????
Great catch I love it where is this location we want to go and got one
What do you typically throw more…… 1/4 or 5/16oz?
I had one destroy it last week using this. Great lure landed a pike too on it lol
Do the gloves help grip the fish? What kind are they. Great vids. Thanks.
Also wondering what the story with the gloves is.
We wear them to keep the bait off our hands when fishing with eggs
Do u ever use the orange or red?
I haven't tried them much, I've just stuck with what worked so far

Since no one responded...try toning down about 10' of that hi viz line with a magic marker, and use a fluorocarbon leader. Cheers!

Hey fray im still trying to get with you.
I'm not good with phones tech... maybe different way Facebook or something
Thanks
