Not sure why Mr.Tamil Takies given such a negative review of this movie, for sure its a good movie to watch may not be one of the best from Mani Ratinam. Dulqar and Nithya really given good performance through out, their energy is awesome . Compare to last few movies from Director this one really a come back. Special mention to Mastero ARR, his music given big back bone for this flick.

Sorrynga....first time I have to disagree with you. *SPOILER ALERT* The movie starts off with live-in relationship or as friends with benefits as they call in the western culture. There is actually a movie called Friends with Benefits with a very similar story line. But Mani has given it an Indian touch as their relationship turns into deep love and emotion and eventually they want to get committed to each other in the form of marriage. This is a subtle message that this movie carries. He has beautifully rendered it with another long married couple's life running in parallel with the main roles. That is just brilliant. And Nithya Menen was outstanding in this movie. She made her eyes speak!! This is such a good movie and you just sopke about the over all jist of the first half. You disappointed me a lot!

Very first time, your review was wrong on this one!!! I thought this movie was very realistic..and up to date...You didnt' mention how well, the director shows the love between the youngsters and older generations. :)
pls dont compare it to alaipaayuthe. alaipaayuthe is legendary classic whereas OK kanmani is a shit. alaipaayuthe had good rom,ance whereas ok kanmani was forced. the acting was worse. no life in their expressions. its jsut the opposite of alaipaayuthe.
Sema review. Especially that Gandhi thatha story in the end was so apt. I am 24, I studied abroad for a few years. I had a girlfriend (where we lived-in together after dating a year before that). We broke up later due to genuine reasons and differences. No where this film shows the reality. No one lives-in just to do things as shown in this film. Maniratnam in a way has fooled us about this concept and has taken the audience for ride. Firstly, such relationship is a still in a very very miniscule minority in India. Whereas, majority of young Indian men are still single and those who are not still follow conventional relationships (i.e) live with parents and manage dating. By bringing this concept to the forefront in this film, he basically is targeting the majority who would be very curious to explore what the heck is this all about. I have to say he has painted too much immaturity and sensuality to such relationships in this film. In my own personal experience, live in relationships are much as a normal relationship except you guys live together. You have those same commitments, understandings misunderstandings etc etc as a conventional one. Whereas in this film he has tried to portray as if it happens overnight and only people who hardly have any commitments choose live-in relationships. This is so untrue. I felt he is basically trying to sell an 'IDEAL' concept for the youth who are very busy, facing stiff competition in their careers today to get into such relationships with zero commitments. This is in a way cultural grooming of sorts. I am quite worried lot of people might attempt such non-committal relationships and end up with broken hearts which is quite dangerous for their mental composition and health (I know how hard it is to overcome a break-up!_ Definitely mature audience and people in a relationship wouldn't give a damn about this film. But youngsters of Tamilnadu who are single and brought up in a neo-conservative set-up will be lured into trying this (IDEAL maniratnam's version of live-in) and many might suffer terrible consequences with this.
The review is completely true. Been a Manirathnam years for now i understand the benchmark he's already set for other filmmakers but this movie literally had nothing except for the thin layer of living together. Manirathnam made a better movie with Raavanan and i still don't understand why it flopped.

Poor movie by Maniratnam. Love marriages were encouraged more after Mouna ragam movie. Marriages without parent's knowing were introduced after Alaipayuthe movie. Now he wants to spread living together concept among Tamil people, which is very dangerous against our culture. Even though his climax convinces towards marriages, but adolescents will take only the lust part. Personally, Love marriages are good to have but living together is very dangerous. He should have some social responsibility to direct such movies.

The movie starts off with live-in relationship or as friends with benefits as they call in the western culture. There is actually a movie called Friends with Benefits with a very similar story line. But Mani has given it an Indian touch as their relationship turns into deep love and emotion and eventually they want to get committed to each other in the form of marriage. This is a subtle message that this movie carries.
He has beautifully rendered it with another long married couple's life running in parallel with the main roles. That is just brilliant. And Nithya Menen was outstanding in this movie. She made her eyes speak!! This is such a good movie and you just sopke about the over all jist of the first half.

Sema review. Especially that Gandhi thatha story in the end was so apt. I am 24, I studied abroad for a few years. I had a girlfriend (where we lived-in together after dating a year before that). We broke up later due to genuine reasons and differences. No where this film shows the reality. No one lives-in just to do things as shown in this film. Maniratnam in a way has fooled us about this concept and has taken the audience for ride. Firstly, such relationship is a still in a very very miniscule minority in India. Whereas, majority of young Indian men are still single and those who are not still follow conventional relationships (i.e) live with parents and manage dating. By bringing this concept to the forefront in this film, he basically is targeting the majority who would be very curious to explore what the heck is this all about. I have to say he has painted too much immaturity and sensuality to such relationships in this film. In my own personal experience, live in relationships are much as a normal relationship except you guys live together. You have those same commitments, understandings misunderstandings etc etc as a conventional one. Whereas in this film he has tried to portray as if it happens overnight and only people who hardly have any commitments choose live-in relationships. This is so untrue. I felt he is basically trying to sell an 'IDEAL' concept for the youth who are very busy, facing stiff competition in their careers today to get into such relationships with zero commitments. This is in a way cultural grooming of sorts. I am quite worried lot of people might attempt such non-committal relationships and end up with broken hearts which is quite dangerous for their mental composition and health (I know how hard it is to overcome a break-up!_ Definitely mature audience and people in a relationship wouldn't give a damn about this film. But youngsters of Tamilnadu who are single and brought up in a neo-conservative set-up will be lured into trying this (IDEAL maniratnam's version of live-in) and many might suffer terrible consequences with this.
The review is completely true. Been a Manirathnam years for now i understand the benchmark he's already set for other filmmakers but this movie literally had nothing except for the thin layer of living together. Manirathnam made a better movie with Raavanan and i still don't understand why it flopped.

Poor movie by Maniratnam. Love marriages were encouraged more after Mouna ragam movie. Marriages without parent's knowing were introduced after Alaipayuthe movie. Now he wants to spread living together concept among Tamil people, which is very dangerous against our culture. Even though his climax convinces towards marriages, but adolescents will take only the lust part. Personally, Love marriages are good to have but living together is very dangerous. He should have some social responsibility to direct such movies.
