    A hidden gem among fast lenses is the Canon 50mm f1.5 lens. It's even smaller than the Canon 50mm f1.4 and the images out from that lens is something special.

    Matt, I’ve finally achieved a theoretical f/0.6745 with a micro 4/3 lens. I started out with the new Zhong Yi 50mm f/0.95 Canon EF fitting lens, just now available. This is coupled to a Metabones 0.71 range extender, EF to M43, giving me 0.95 x 0.71 maximum theoretical aperture = f/0.6745 ! I’d love to send you a photo of this unique combination but don’t know how to do so.
    But it works ! Alas I think Leica M or L lenses have too short a back focus distance to do the same with a Noctilux f/0.95.

    Wow, great video. Really enjoyed seeing all those great rangefinder cameras in one place. I was wondering about the Nikkor 1.5 (1:15) lens that you said had been customized. I couldn't get a close view of the lens mount, but the glimpse I caught looked a lot like an Exakta mount. Nikon like most other top lens manufacturers of the day did make Exakta mount lenses since the Exakta was THE single lens reflex of the 1950s. In that case, it might not have been a customized lens but an actual production model. BTW, I am wondering why no one else adopted the Ilford Witness interrupted screw mount, which could be either bayonet mount or screw mount. When the M42 mount for SLRs was at the peak of popularity, it would have made so much sense since the M42 mount was so justifiably criticized as being so darn slow.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  3 роки тому

      Thanks Tom! Great spot about Exakta mount. Yes it is more likely it is that and not custom. The Super Six was the best lenses tested I thought and yes as you say the mount makes good sense.

    Lucky man, you got to play with some nice toys from that candy store!! The 1969 black paint M4 looks pristine (I have the same, but mine is a 1970, and I had the advance lever replaced with the older M3/2/1 simple style); the '68 silver one burnt to a crisp is intriguing... conversation piece or very challenging restoration project for some super skilled technician?

    I think that you will find the ‘hammer’ price for most of the gear you have been reviewing, Matt, will end up substantially higher than the Flint’s estimates. Expect that Gold Leica to go for, 5K +, and with no chance for it to be seen on the streets, but to be in a safety deposit box, as an investment for future sale. My view is based on watching the most recent photographic auctions in recent weeks.
