@@beckyparkco You know what it is, eBay ALWAYS sides with the Buyer. But the Buyer never has a leg to stand on with my listings. They knew, they know, they did, it's done. I definitely sell flawed items! Same logic, if it’s sent to me and I think it’s still sellable with the flaw or if I find it at the bins and don’t notice the flaw or if I do notice but it’s still worth getting. I picked up a Tory Burch 100% merino wool sweater at the bins that I noticed had a few small holes. It sold on eBay for $30 and then I got a message saying “cancel the sale. I didn’t see that this had holes all over it. I don’t want a flawed item. If you ship it I will just return it.” My title had *Flawed* in it, the listing stated the flaw and I took clear photos, so I don’t know what the attitude was for. Obviously canceled the sale and didn’t message her back. Yes! Some people won't do their due diligence and look at the listing carefully, and that is one of the cons of listing flawed items. But I agree with you that the pros far outweigh the cons. I'm glad you were able to move the Tory Burch sweater!
I worked in a sewing factory in the late 70s. We sewed dresses and blouses with the Neiman Marcus label but also put some off-the-wall brand tags in some so the SAME dress was sold as Neiman Marcus and another label.
I feel like this happened fairly often back in the day! I wonder if it's still happening though with all the knock offs in fast fashion, maybe it's no longer a thing.....

It's hard to buy online and sometimes things just aren't what you thought or don't fit as you hoped. Whatever the reason, I allow returns. I don't get many anyway so it's not a big deal for me, I don't take it personal, and I feel it helps creates trust in you as a seller.
Yes! I think the biggest thing is not to take returns personally. it has nothing to do against you; they just didn't like the item for whatever reason. I see a lot of resellers who seem to take returns personally, which can't be great for their mental health.
Hi Becky! Thanks for sharing your wisdom. One thing I’d love to see you add to your what sold videos is how many active listings you have the week of the sales. Great video, as always. I am not afraid to list flawed items, either, and I agree that it pays off, sometimes really well! I’d picked up a pair of black and gray checked vans for my husband that didn’t end up fitting and although they had a big ole bleach stain on one toe they sold full price in just a couple of days. I did list them pretty low and they were excellent condition other than the stain, but easily quadrupled my money! I’m glad your person didn’t argue with you, you clearly did everything you could.
Love your videos! I have been selling on ebay for 22 years, and I don't take returns. Sometimes I feel badly, but I just don't want to deal with it. Occasionally, I have people open up false Items not as described cases, but its few and far between. You are nicer than I am! :)

I've only had 3 returns in the past year - which is amazing since I still feel like I'm stumbling around, doing okay in spite of myself, LOL - so I'm grateful. And I love the sweaters - I'm working on delving further into vintage although finding vintage plus size pieces is a bit of a challenge and plus sizes are my main focus. BTW - you looked SO CUTE in that lavendar and gray sweaters!!! Blessings to you and your family in the New Year.
Yay! I am so happy for you and those vintage sweaters. I remember commenting months ago about Norm Thompson sweaters. It's exciting that you took a chance on this type of box and it worked for you! As a vintage seller, men's cashmere / wool (almost any pattern) or colorful crazy sweaters are my favorite things to sell. Thanks for the video! I hope you're having a great time with family.

Hi Becky! Just wanted to say thank you for your educational videos. So inspirational. I set up Poshmark this week and listed my first items. The first one, Men's Carhartts, had four offers and sold within two hours. Now I'm a little suspicious that PM bumps new folks up the algorithm so we will get hooked. I'll try again with some more Carhartts later today! And thanks for the flaws conversation. I have a beautiful beautiful coat that I was going to send to the RealReal but found two moth holes. I might try listing it with those flaws pointed out. Thanks again! You rock!
I think you will have good luck with the carhartts. Check sold comps for pricing and add 10% so you can send/accept offers. And yes, list the coat! I purchased a gorgeous pendleton pleated plaid wool shirt for a pretty price at an out of state consignment shop that really goes over their clothes. Unfortunately, when I went to list it I found numerous tiny moth holes. It did eventually sell for decent money. Just take photos of it and mention "flaw" in title and detail in listing! Good luck!
That's amazing! Carhartt does sell well, so while Poshmark may have boosted you in the algorithm a little bit (I support this conspiracy theory haha), I also think you just had great desirable pieces at a great price! Keep listing and see what happens! And yes - LIST THAT COAT!
I list flaws too. Like you, most of the time I miss the flaws in the store. I will always put the flaw multiple times in the listing, pictures, write 'flaw' in the title, in the description, etc. I do returns, but buyer pays. Sometimes I don't get a return for a few months, one time I got 3 returns for item not fitting within a week.
I found a brand new with tags pair of jaded Gyspy jeans at my goodwill for 14.99..I sold them on ebay for 75.00 within 24 hour!! The thrift gods had smiled upon me that day.
Yes, I offer free returns on eBay. It prevents so many problems. I don't have to discuss anyone's complaint about their item for any reason other than reiterating that I offer free returns. It also allows removal of bad feedback from people who don't return the item but just want to complain. And also it allows me to be a top seller plus, which comes with lower final value fees. It's hard to get used to accepting returns for reasons that are totally not my fault (coming from Poshmark) but it is well worth it. I should add that I almost never refund without receiving the item back first because it sets a bad precedent on eBay. Happy New Year Becky!
Yes to ALL of this. I think it's a lot easier to swallow when I think about myself as a consumer - I buy clothes online or at the store all the time then return them later b/c of fit or because I simply don't like how I look in the item. It's irrational to think that online shoppers won't need to return items as well.
I recently got my eBay store up and running in the least few months. I love with Poshmark there are no returns so I’m always on the fence with eBay. I allow returns because it doesn’t end up being that many items and I have the buyer return shipping. Plus I feel like I may get more buyers with that assurance (just an assumption of course!). I’ve also had a time where someone wanted to return and never did so it does take effort for the buyer to repack and ship 😂
I allow returns (but it's not my stated policy) if it's legit like size they pay to return and refund is then based on condition I get it back in. I've had liars and Ebay sides with me. Your videos are great the way they are, I enjoy learning about new brands. I am also in the upper Midwest, I don't find Gucci and such in the wild here! I'm good with Carhart, Ariat and Cinch! Happy New Year reseller family!
Cinch?!? I've never heard of that brand! I'm going to have to look for it! And SAD that people have lied about items when it comes to returns - I'm sure it'll happen to me soon, but I'm glad it hasn't yet. Thanks for sharing, and yay for midwest resellers!
I do allow 30 day returns on eBay which the buyer pays, I am a very small seller so I have only had a handful of returns. I got burnt 3X. One buyer said he just didn't like the shirt so I refunded him but I never got the item back. One lady bought a pair of green sequined sneakers that she begged me to lower the price (fixed income story) because her granddaughter needed them for a school play that was happening very soon so I rushed them out and a WEEK later, she said she needed to return them because they didn't fit. The last one was a novelty St Patrick's day shirt that mysteriously didn't fit the day after St. Patrick's day. It came back and stunk of cologne. But that's the cost of doing business. I like how you do your what sold videos so your current format is great! Happy New Year, Becky!
Thank you for your kind words, Shannon! I'm sorry to hear about your returns - regarding the shirt, I never refund the buyer until the item is in my possession. I have actually had many instances where the buyer never sent the item to me, so eBay drops the return and I get paid. I hope both of us experience less returns in 2023!
@@beckyparkco Good to know. I "thought" i would get dinged by eBay if I didn't approve the refund right away. Things will be changing in 2023 for sure!
I accept returns. When I started EBay I did not, and people would get around it by opening an INAD. After a while of not excepting returns my not as described ratio was deemed high, and EBay punishes you with higher fees. Out of all the returns I got for INAD only one was actually my mistake. Ever since I have accepted returns I haven’t gotten any INADs. Even if someone sent me back trash that small loss would be no where near how much I would Loose from eBay fees. Not to mention I think it helps the algorithm. So even though I don’t like it, I accept them lol
I don’t take returns ( although I will make exceptions on a case by case basis) on eBay because I fear people buying and returning on a whim. Processing the returns does take my time as did the initial packing and driving to the post office, so, I prefer to minimize that part. I do provide measurements and lots of photos. In 5 years on eBay I have had one return that was an item not as described which was really a fit return.
Happy New Year, I’m new to eBay and I don’t accept returns normally. However, I received a request for a return do to their questioning the authenticity and I accepted it and I didn’t read their return policy. (I Know) Anyway I gave them a refund but they didn’t return my boots. I notified eBay so they returned my boots destroyed. They were cut every which way. Definitely a learning lesson for me. No more returns.
I advertise on eBay that I don't take returns but if there is an obvious problem such as an item broke despite my careful packaging and it appeared that the item was defective in the first place. What happened is the pin broke on the back of a brooch and I did not test for that I did not examine it carefully so I did take a return on that. I sell mostly jewelry and not very many clothes. So I don't have the fit issues to deal with.
On my return logic, I also feel people will be willing to pay a higher price for something if they can return it. They might send lower offers if they know they can't return it because it may not fit. I also like customers being happy and having a good experience at my store. I never had a return that I suspected the person bought the item to use and return.
I don’t have list perfectly but you would think that it would end listings it crosslisted if they sold on one platform. I personally use reseller kit. It ends listings for me I absolutely love it. No monthly fees and I just have to buy credits to list so you buy at your own pace.
I've never heard of reseller kit! That's awesome! I know it's in the works for List Perfectly to end listings automatically - I love it, so I'm being patient haha.
Great video, Becky! I do accept returns on eBay. I offer free shipping on higher priced items but otherwise have the buyer pay for shipping & return shipping. I hope your house sells soon! Happy New Year! I
How can we buy from "Fleek?" ? I couldn't guess the correct odd spelling, and it seemed a good resource. I had a return denied on Mercari. The buyer showed similar jeans w my shown stain but also a stained butt. I informed Mercari of my showing flaws, but some how forgot a pic of the rear. I prevailed after replying I had looked at rear of the jeans and absolutely would not have sold a jean w a stained seat! Great Sold video as usual. Have a Very Prosperous New Year!!
Honestly, I think opening a return for anything besides an inaccurate listing is just a jerk move. I'd only accept returns if I can't prove that my listing was accurate. However, I sell very little clothing, which makes a big difference. I understand why you'd accept returns from someone that doesn't fit in something, but fit has nothing to do with the returns I get. Last return request I had to deal with was a DEEPLY discounted used kindle with a glitch in the description. They claimed it had another glitch about needing to hold the power button down to turn it on ( which... doesn't sound a glitch.) They canceled the return "accidentally" and said that ebay's customer service told them to take the return off of ebay. Thankfully I know that taking business off of ebay is the #1 thing ebay does NOT allow, I reported them, and that was that. :)
Great sales, Becky! Question- do you reference Coogi or Cosby in your sweater listings? What were your keywords? Thanks so much for your sharing knowledge!
I referenced both, haha, but I never put Coogi in the listing TITLE b/c I didn't want people to think I was selling a Coogi sweater. I would only put it in the description.
I sold some Christmas pajamas at the beginning of December. They opened a ‘doesn’t fit’ return December 15th and didn’t mail them back until December 28th. 🙄
I accept returns for the same reasons as you! Buyer pays shipping both ways. My return rate is only around 3%, which is only 3 out of every 100 items so while it is annoying, I’m not out any money and most items sell again quickly, sometimes for more than the original price
I don't allow returns but if they reach out to me and explain what the problem is I try to work with them. Once I did return their money and let them keep the item. 😊💕
Eh I’ve tried Mercari Smart Pricing, but I don’t like how they drop the price so frequently. A lot of times, my item is still pretty close to the top of the search results and I want more than a day between price drops. When I first started selling on Mercari, my prices all hit the bottom price within a week of posting and only a couple of items had sold. I ended up relisting everything I did Smart Pricing on, and I sold and accepted offers that were higher than the base price I had set for smart pricing for over half of the listings within 2-3 weeks. The only annoying thing is that they only let you promote 10 items per day to do the notification/bump to top/5% price drop on items that aren’t on smart pricing.
Yep allow for returns on Ebay BUT buyer pays return shipping and I don't refund shipping. Rather user send it back verse ripping a hole in it and claiming INAD. Had less than 10 returns in 2022.
Awww thank you!!! And I have filmed a few ship with me videos! You can search "becky park on poshmark ship with me" and you should be able to find them!
Good morning, just starting to watch your video now. Question, I am starting to sell and I’m scared about the weighing of items, how to print out labels to mail, how much I should state to charge for shipping. I also would like to know how to use various platforms… can you suggest which of your videos I should view? I really need help, husband has retired and there is not enough income so I’ve decided to sell items.. please and thank you.
Hi, Teresa! What platforms do you currently list on now? I would recommend adding one platform at a time until you feel REALLY good about that platform before adding anymore so you don’t overwhelm yourself. If you’re on PM now, I would recommend Mercari as your next choice. If you google “beginner’s guide to Mercari Becky park on Poshmark,” you should find my video on it! I think it is a pretty simple platform and not as overwhelming as eBay. Do you own a small shipping scale? I believe I have one linked in my Amazon store. That’s what I would use to figure out the weight of your items AFTER you include the weight of shipping materials as well. I hope this was helpful!
@@beckyparkco Becky, thank you for responding. I placed four items on EBay and reposted 4 items on Mercari but I dont’ know what to do IF I sell! Mercari has you use a base amount on shipping, with EBay I have no idea. I will check out PM this weekend. Once I weigh an item, what is the next step? Do I go with the website’s suggestion on cost of shipping? How do I get paid if I sell? I’m going to watch your video, thank you. I think what I need is a simple step by step list to follow.. I like your honesty and your videos that really make sense. I sincerely appreciate your help!! Also a bit concerned about hearing about 1099’s and taxes… do you have a video on that? Thanks! Teresa
Correction, Poshmark not Mercari reposted.. since it was something I had bought and didn’t fit so it gives an option to repost using the same photos.. thanks again! Happy ‘new year!
@@teresaproano7984 Yes; with Mercari, you just put in the weight and it gives you options and the price they will charge the buyer. With eBay, you have a couple options - calculated shipping, which I personally don't recommend b/c they tend to overcharge the buyer for shipping. I typically do flat shipping, which means I'm going to charge a certain amount regardless of how much the shipping actually costs. Sometimes I charge too much or too little, but most often I'm pretty close and it all evens out in the end. I typically charge $4 for anything under 6 ounces, $5 for anything 6-11 ounces, $6 for anything 12-14 ounces, and $7 for anything 14 ounces-1 pound. Anything over a pound that can fit in a padded flat rate envelope, I typically charge $8.30. The more you ship, the more you start to figure out how much you should charge for shipping. I hope that helps!
I offer free 30 day returns because I want the boost from eBay in search and also qualify for TRS+. I am a small men's clothes seller and literally eBay pays me with reduced fees and improved search results.
I don't accept returns on Ebay for things that is the buyers fault such as not reading descriptions, or fit because I give measurements and always say if something runs big or small. I have a no return policy and it has worked very well in my favor. People always say "oh ebay or the buyer will make you accept the return anyways" and it is not true. Ebay does honor a no return policy for things that are not an INAD. Most buyers do not lie and file a false INAD. I can decline return cases for all other reasons outside of that. If the buyer tries to leave negative feedback Ebay removes it. I only accept returns if I made a mistake.
That's great! I'm glad to hear you haven't been forced to accept returns you don't want to. I know that hasn't been everyone's experience, but I'm glad it's been working for you!
I allow eBay returns, with buyer paying shipping. I do it so that people won't file an INAD incase they don't like it or it doesn't fit. There are some exceptions, like swim bottoms or NWT party dresses.
Do you have those exceptions within each listing or it's case by case? For some reason, I thought it had to be a blanket policy for everything in your store.
Allow for returns, but not free returns. People are going to begin taking advantage especially with the current environment. I have gotten smelly items, clearly using us as a rent a center without any fees/,membership associated to it.
I do not accept returns. I give free shipping or I subsidize the shipping for many items. Most people have no clue how expensive shipping actually is & so I have to offer some kind of discount on it. I would be out the shipping cost with returns, & honestly, I just don’t want to deal with returns. If someone requests a return despite my no return policy, I will honor it, because you really have no choice at that point on ebay. It happens about 5 times a year. I give extensive measurements & my items are all new with tags. On Poshmark & Mercari, returns are not allowed so I do not feel pressured to offer them on ebay. Most people say that ebay has the lowest fees, but after promoting, & shipping subsidization, it is equal to Poshmark for me.
That's a fair perspective, and you're absolutely right that if you're paying for shipping, once you factor that and fees into the mix, you're paying just as much as Poshmark. That's one of the reasons I don't offer free shipping - if someone DOES want a refund, then you have to pay for the shipping as well. But I have heard that offering free shipping helps boost your listing as well, so perhaps you're on to something!

Always take returns to keep my top seller status which helps with algorithms. Been selling since 1998 - over 56,000 sales.
Alicia here and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SWEATER!! ❤️ THANK YOU AGAIN! SORRY LADIES. 😞
I found a brand new with tags pair of jaded Gyspy jeans at my goodwill for 14.99..I sold them on ebay for 75.00 within 24 hour!! The thrift gods had smiled upon me that day.
YASSSSSSSS, and at Goodwill?!?!?!? That's amazing!
Yay for more great sales! Enjoy time with family! Happy new year
Thank you! I hope you have a great time with your family as well! Happy New Year!

Things will be changing in 2023 for sure!
new to your channel and I can't stop staring at your gesture hands (I am someone who overthinks what I do with my hands when speaking 🤣).

right??? Not bad, right? lol
Even if someone sent me back trash that small loss would be no where near how much I would
Loose from eBay fees.
Hi Becky. I accept returns within 30 days on EBay and offer one day handling to be able to keep Top Rated status.
I’m liking Mercari a lot too. I don’t get ridiculously low offers like on Poshmark because Mercari doesn’t allow it.
I wish I could say that I do the videos for other people, but in reality, I mainly do them for myself. Glad that you had a good week.
OMG!!! I can't believe they did that! I am so sorry! Ddi you try reaching out to ebay once you received your boots in that kind of condition?
I did once.. they returned a pair a pants with underwear in them... Yuck!
Thank you so much! I hope it sells quickly too haha. happy new Year!
Yes, I allow returns to gain more positive customer service experience.
Yes! Another great reason to accept returns!
Congrats on the sales! I do accept returns on ebay for most items, but the buyer pays shipping both ways :) check out what sold in my latest video.
Yes! I have the buyer pay for the shipping as well. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to accept returns if I had to eat the cost of shipping.
Yes! Usually returns are not very common, but it does feel like there have been a lot in the last few months haha.
I don't allow returns but if they reach out to me and explain what the problem is I try to work with them. Once I did return their money and let them keep the item. 😊💕
That's a flexible approach! If it works for you, keep it!
Had less than 10 returns in 2022.
i have gained so much knowledge from you. Thank you. I would love to see a pack and ship from you.
Awww thank you!!! And I have filmed a few ship with me videos! You can search "becky park on poshmark ship with me" and you should be able to find them!
As a buyer and seller on eBay, I don’t allow returns. I’ve bought things that don’t fit and I turn around and sell them again myself
This is a smart way of looking at it!
Excepting returns doesn't stop INAD. Ebay needs to do reviews on those.
No, it doesn't stop them. But in my opinion, it stops people from creating false INAD accusations to try and return an item.
@@beckyparkco Oh, you can totally select returns on a per item bases.
@@Kitty.CastleStore see? You learn something new everyday!!!
Allow for returns, but not free returns. People are going to begin taking advantage especially with the current environment. I have gotten smelly items, clearly using us as a rent a center without any fees/,membership associated to it.
Could you please please please do a video on style key words with examples!🙏🙏
That's a great video idea! I'll add it to my list :)
Knickerbocker the term I would of used
ooooohhhhh that's another good term!
For some reason, I sold almost all my j.crew pieces this week
I guess it was the week of J Crew!
What’s your Depop shop name?

I allow returns but i don’t pay for the return label.
