    Hi Alex, I've started to strength training back in 2016. It took me a while before deciding that I would train for strength. Elliot Hulse's channel, Omar and you, were my inspiration to decide going to strength training. I do appreciate weightlifting, calisthenics, powerlifting and strongman, but I cannot see myself in any of these labels.
    Some friends of mine also train for strength, but some of them are more related to powerlifting. I do understand that powerlifting is more than the big 3, but in my opinion, I need the big 6: Squat, Bench, Deadlift, OHP, Dips and Pull ups.

      I think it works like this: If your muscle gets stronger, then it will get bigger.
      That doesn't mean that if you are stronger than someone else, you can expect to be bigger than them. That is dependent on genetics. Therefore you shouldn't compare yourself to others. Focus on getting stronger, cuz when you get stronger you get bigger. Gaining strength is the only way to gain mass

Frank Zane became an icon that inspired many to join the sport. Then for decades it was the rivalries between bodybuilders that generated hype in the public. Powerlifting has none of these things. No one famous to advocate it and no popular rivalries to draw people in. Although it’s gotten more popular within the last decade, the public isn’t aware of powerlifting so it’s still very niche. dude I gotta say something alex.. and you prolly wont read this but... dude...I been at this lifting journey for about three years... with minimal success as I have realized lately that ive just working out way too much... and not getting enough sleep... but evn after increasing sleep and eating, im sitll just doing too much volume... anyway, I am about to embark on your free novice routine... Ive looked it over, read FAQS etc... and I am pumped... I really have a focus on calithenics tho, and ESPECIALLY pullups... so, I am going to replace pendlay rows with pullups... whether you recommend or not BUT.... I decided to look at the Naturally ENhanced as I will do that after Novice.. and DUDE!!!!... the price on that is EXTREMELY fair... EXTRE

    I've been doing slightly paused squats, low to the ground and OHP for a few months, literally only that. A few weeks ago I did a bench session, aside from the fact that my front delt was weak (I noticed it and will fix it) I was hitting the same numbers on my bench as I did before. I PRed on my deadlift by 5lbs and it wasn't hard. I hadn't done one in 4 months.
    I am a noob though - less than 2 plate bench, squat right now is in the 260 range. OHP, I did 1 plate for a relatively fast rep. My deadlift PR was 280. I was stronger on the squat when I exercised 3 times a week (225x12), now I only do it 2 times a week.

    Hey Alex I’m 208 17 percent body fat around 5”9. I’ve been training for around 10 months and I can bench 225 for 5. My deadlift max is only 405. I don’t really care about squat. Can you help me get my deadlift up any tips?

  • @onionring1531
    @onionring1531 4 роки тому

    I didn't realize my squat was at the intermediate level for my body weight I'm especially surprised because I'm carrying an extra 40 pounds of unnecessary fat at the moment. I guess I should try for 425 just to get into advanced for my squat.

    Switched over to dumbells for dumbell bench press.. And I can't even begin to explain how much I've been able to progress.. Not to mention I can definitely tell I've added a small amount of muscle to my chest.. And I've been floor pressing close grip, I'm a little under 200 lbs for reps, so I can't wait to see what my regular bench press will be since I was always getting stuck around 205-215

    “A bigger muscle is a stronger muscle” I would be inclined to agree with this, but out of personal experience I can’t. I’m about 5’9, 160lbs with a decently built frame and very little body fat. My buddy is 6’1, 200lbs with a similar lean frame but with great arm genetics - his arms are much bigger than mine. Our chests are about the same size, his is a little bigger. Now, when we go to comparing benchpresses, I can put up about 235 for 1 rep, and he could probably push 200 on a good day. Due to his size, I would have anticipated his benchpress to be +50lbs more than mine, but it isn’t. I’ve always wondered, how does this make any sense? It completely contradicts my previous notion that bigger=stronger.

      I'm not taking anyone's side here but he is 4 inches taller than you which means his arms are likely much longer than yours. Longer arms = longer descent = harder bench
