Watching Torbjorn work is restful. How can one person do so much at an easy pace. He never seems to rush or get upset at what he is doing. Nice products that you turn out. I love the fact that you will include the children when you can, and they seem to enyoy doing whatever is being done. If I could you would get two thumbs up.
Where I'm from in the US we call unfiltered apple juice apple cider - alcoholic apple cider is known as hard apple cider or just hard cider. A state park near me makes it every year using the same press and equipment from when the town was founded in the 1830s. I've done it a couple times there. Great video Torbjorn.
Such a life is the ultimate dream. Without any wars, without tyranny, without hatred and enmity. Calm, creative and simple. I believe that someday we will come to this. In the meantime, thanks to the author. You have a beautiful home, a wonderful family and great talent. You are cool. Happy New Year!
You made not only cider, but a wonderful memory for the children. I made cider last weekend also. We have very similar interests. I used apples and also used Pears. Oddly, one can barely tell the difference in taste between the pear cider and the apple cider. I put about 20 liters in carboys with champagne yeast and an airlock. I cant compost tthe apple pulp because every deer in the county comes and eat them.Instead I added more sugar and will try to ferment those also. Best regards, Frank
I’m currently visiting my son and his wife in Germany. Such a great experience. I have to see your country some day. Thunder Bear never disappoints. My best to your family. 😊
Our bears don't leave any apples for us. But they are generally small and wouldn't make much cider. The process looks like a good family time and something to be appreciated over the winter months.
I have had the pleasure of making pure, unadulterated apple juice in my youth. My Aunt and Uncle owned a farm that had heritage designation, with an existing orchard. Our two families had 12 kids so frugal was life. I remember taking pickup loads of apples to the processor. It was the last one in our area, and was over a century old . Completely wooden structure , including the press. Went home with gallons of juice. Some was frozen. Much was enjoyed. Great memories. Thanks
I really enjoyed this. Great to see the whole family involved in the project. My cousin and her husband run a cider mill just down the road from my home. They also make hard cider there. The thing I like most is that they make homemade cider donuts everyday, which goes so well with a fresh glass of cider.
I watch far too much UA-cam but, Torbjörn Åhman's channel is by far the best on the platform. I'm also incredibly envious of the Swedish lifestyle and truly enjoy getting a glimpse into that which I can only dream of.
Thank you very much for such a beautiful video, it reminded me of my childhood, I am now 56 years old, when I did the same with my nonno. We made wine with the grapes, and with the apple we made cider, using exactly the same pressing method to extract the juice. The legacy to your children is also very beautiful, those values of working the land and respect for the ecosystem, I send you a big hug from southern Argentina.

Ooh now you've got me thinking about digging out my old apple mill ( scratter as we call it here) and press , though we locals here in Devon , England tend to take out apple juice one step further lol .
As a kid my grandmother had trees full of these huge black sour cherries supposedly brought over by our family from Germany well before the civil war. We would gather one weekend every summer and pick and seed cherries. Hands stained red for a week. Freezers l Ioaded with cherries. Her second husband didn't like the trees and slowly started killing them off.
I really enjoy watching you spend good quality time with your children and teaching them things that they will probably share with their children in time! Just awesome parenting that is priceless! Great dad!
What a fantastic video and thank you for sharing it. Your children growing up and (maybe your mother!) in this one simple video, but all the family, working together as one. I remember when you converted the old garage into a workshop! Cheers.
Perfect skills, perfect house, perfect kids, perfect hobbies, perfect tools, perfect activities, perfect area to live in, perfect everything. inspiring.
You do things Torbjorn which our great grandparents knew, i any part of the world making your own food and materials. We all forgot how to do, thanks so much for showing your skills
Master Gardener also best BlackSmith I believe. Love your Gardening skills ( great cooking I believe is related with gardening) Thanks I had nice apples last season but somehow bugs got em this season.
My grandparents used to feed the Apple residue to their pigs after pressing juice, back in the old days at their farm, kind of doubling the yield nutrition wise ;) Greetings to your whole family. Sven.
Man, those pigs were living the good life! Eating basically apple purée whenever your grandparents made juice... In the south of Brazil, we do something close to that too. Whenever we harvest watermelon, the pigs always get some!
@@brunomarcato4591 My grandma, in South Carolina in the early 1960's, gave the her pigs the watermelon rinds. After me & my two brothers ate the insides. Cantaloupe, tomato peels & all of the other peels. In the kitchen, it was the slop bucket. Everything was grown by her & and my grandpa.
Oh my, that looks very tasty! Myself, I've made hard cider (äppelvin?) a few times from apples off of trees at my cousin's farm. It's always been a nice, dry drink with just enough sweetness left over that I've never needed to back-sweeten with additional sugar or juice. I wish I knew the type of apple tree, but I highly recommend you try cider making too!
Just found the channel as someone recommended the smithing craftsmanship, loads of great video's and some nice variety in there too. No music or chat is also really a nice change.
My father used to make wine at home and we used a press like that to press the grapes. Well done 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Take care of yourselves, be safe, and healthy 🇨🇦
Haven't done this in a while. A mod you can make to the lip of the crusher is to file a drip line under the lip. Also, you can make "cakes" out of the crushed apple. If you grind it further down, to a mushy paste, and press it down (you can buy some presses, but it's simpler to make your own, basically a garlic crusher, but in the shape of a standard round biscuit) you can either let them dry naturally on paper in a dry place or dry them in a drier. Good chewy snack for winter times. Once i'm done making them, i snake them with a big needle on a rope and hang them in my attic inside a clean space i have for dry goods.
Always enjoyable, great to see entire family evolved, children are really getting big, time flys Thanks Keep them coming God Bless you and Yours Theron
Thanks for the video. Good juice for the family. Good experience for the children. Something they should truly love after they know the health benefits.
Dear Torbjörn! You can always offer a relaxing and calming video, no matter what you are doing. It is nice to see such family gatherings, we usually make every year with my grandparents, jam, tomato sauce and zakuszka(kind of a cream made out of eggplant and paprika, which is a popular food in Hungary and Transylvania). Thank you for your diversified and entertaining content! All the best to you and your family! 🙂
Another great video, thanks! I used identical gear making cider in the southern autumn. The crank wheel on the grinder had to be welded up a couple of times during the day, but we might have been excessive in the amount we put in. It's a good candidate for a refit or rebuild.

I genuinely thought this was going to be a video about you crafting your own juice press. Which is a serious testament to how talented you are.
Next time, I promise....

Yea, it's quite simple and affective!
