- On the Nvidia Shield running the latest 8.1.1 software, you can update the launcher to add more features. Updating the Nvidia shield launcher will allow you to fully customize your homescreen. You can also use widgets. You can create folders, change the background as well as tweak the settings. This works on all Nvidia Shield Tv's.

Whether I decide to do this or not, this was a well presented and well thought out tutorial. Quick pace, but not too quick and spoke to many levels of user experience. I used to write documentation and do training; I know how hard it is to do a tutorial and keep experienced users engaged while not leaving less experienced users behind. Based on this alone, I subbed! Cheers and great job.
works flawlessly. just make sure to launch the launchx app one time prior before sending the remote adb command otherwise the command will catch an exception error. it doesn't brick your system if you do forget and the error will tell you what your missing. open it, try again, all good. for the widgets you can find the exact application name to change in the adb command when you open the app details at the top. i did it with topTV Launcher 2. works great. thank you so much. great tutorial.

in my widgets section, there's no weather apps to choose
I like the copy and paste feature of the Nvidia Shield app. That would make entering long m3u playlist urls much easier lol. The ipazzport mini-keyboard remote often spazzes out on me, especially when the keyboard backlight is on. I learn something new every time I watch 😎
It's a basic feature but so hand when entering in long commands / URLs 👍
Hi, I wanted to share something interesting I found out today. In case you don't see any widgets, remove any external storage you have on your shield and then install the weather app of your choice. Once it's installed, the widgets become available and then you can go ahead an plug your storage back in. I'm so happy I got it fixed haha

I have managed to get everything working , but the widgets that you show when you go to pick a widget do not show up .I can add the google music which is showing up in the boxes.But you show a lot more that can be added.Any help

Do the adb commands have to be put in every time after shield goes to sleep? I just woke my shield up and no remotes were working, not even the nvidia app dpad. I had to put it to sleep and wake it up again then the remotes worked, but the widget was telling me I needed to do the adb debug commands again

Could you try to find out if it's possible to add an animated wallpaper on ATV launcher? That would so cool. I been looking around for possibilities and nothing yet. For the Nvidia Shield TV Pro anyway.

I see that there is a large blurred box at the top left of the launcher where a widget would go, is there a way to remove that blurred box so that it is never there?

I have managed to complete and get the widget to be excepted , but I don't have any widgets showing like you have when picking one .All I have is the google play music.
Hi since I downloaded all those downloads I get a pop up saying..no application can handle this action and then maybe after 10 or 15mins what ever I’m doing stops.I have gone back to original nvidia shield tv screen but I’m still getting that pop up.any help is well appreciated thx

I pick widget and I don't have any listed, why?
Sadly I think I'm going to have to uninstall this and go back to stock launcher. It works fine once it's set up but once I put my shield to sleep and wake it up again my remote won't work and have to restart the shield again and put in all the adb commands every time. Too much hassle. I'm on the latest 8.0.2 firmware. Do you know anything about this problem?

You need to Install the apps that have widget support. Download aptoide TV from my Downloads page and user that to download a weather app. I also used that to download BBC news. Once you install the apps, you will have more widgets to choose from

Why do you have to have the custom launcher adp? You need to do that first in order to add the widgets?
The first ADB command is to give permission to FTVx so it can change your launcher. The second command is for ATV, so it can run widgets
Is there a way to remove or change the adb shell commands once entered ?
Specifically, here's what happened: I installed them all & got it running OK... Then I deleted the Launcher X app thinking I wanted to go back to the default home screen... An hour later, I thought "That new one wasn't so bad. I'll go re-install it.". However, after re-installing Launcher-X and ATV Launcher, Launcher X shows the secure write warning despite the adb command string still being there.
Do I (a) Enter the adb commands again? Won't there be two entries that repeat the same command?
Or (b) Give up completely and live with the stock/default home screen?
The commands only apply when ftvx is installed. If you remove it then the ADB commands are gone

did you copy/paste the commands or enter them in manually ? they are case-sensitive so every letter needs to be entered in correctly

Is it coming to Shield TV 2017?
Not sure why but, I don't have the same widgets to choose from as you do. No weather or news. Could it be because I'm on 8.1.0? Do I need the update to get those extra widgets?
You need to install those apps first. I didn't show it in the video as it was already getting so long. I just used Aptoide TV to download and install a weather app and BBC news. When you install them they will give you extra widgets to use 👍

Hey I have a question. I have the wolf launcher on my shield pro android box. Also I have tiny pro cam widget on the home screen. How can I keep a live feed on the cam widget instead of it refreshing only if you look at the live feed? Also it just stays as a snapshot. I looked all through setting and I can't find a option to Change the refresh rate
Widgets are mainly designed for phones/tablets , so their behavior on an Android TV device is never going to be the same

Tduk, if I have a X88 pro 10 box and I put the custom launcher on my box with the launcher hijack but everytime i restart the box it goes back to the default launcher. Couldn't use the remote adb because its not accepting the connection. How to fix?

How did you download wallpapers from downloader?
Once you have fixed your downloader so it can download stuff. Just use that to open google.com and then search for 4k wallpapers. You can then download them direct to your device

How can we use live wallpapers?
I got it all working, looks great. One problem though i can no longer hold the home button to open nvidia recorder and also the double click on home no longer opens showing me all the background apps running to close them. Know how to fix this? I dont see these options in button mapper.
Ok I figured out a work around. In button mapper you can re-map a key to open recents. I just put that as double click on the Netflix button. AWESOME!! That works just fine in ATV launcher. Thanks man. The setup is now amazing after completing what you said in your latest upload. Totally transformed my dash into something so damn cool compared to stock launcher.

Yes, either you can hide APK's or you can put them in to folders

Yes, when I go in to settings and internal storage I can’t find google drive. I have some images in there.

you need to download them first. I just used the downloader application, went to google.com and searched for "4k wallpaper" I was able to then download that directly to my shield. You will them see them in the downloader folder

Now i have a new problem. Both weather and clock widgets will not update. When i click on weather it opens and works just fine but on the launcher dash its not updating. And multiple apps for date/time , all wont update the time. Whats goin on?
Its seems to be working after i rebooted. Any tips you can give me with this issue thanks. Reboot was a last resort, no clue why it wasn’t working.

TechDoctorUK yeah just now again when i started playing snes games. Just stopped working. Little annoying. The widgets just stop working randomly. Weather and clock ones. Its like they freeze. Stop auto updating.
I got rid of the weather widget and added only one with date, time, weather all in one. That seems to be working now. Hasn't stopped yet. Dunno why a weather and date & time widgets together was having issues.
Which one did you get? I'm looking to avoid this same problem

Matthew Lew you dont need it to stay as default. Mine is still set to nothing but my home button always returns me to the correct launcher as long as launchX is turned on in the accessibility section at the bottom. And with button mapper i switched the netflix button double click to recent app view. After that...Golden. Its so good. And worth doing his setup tutorials.
@@englishvietnamesewithmimi6983 thanks for that.. I do still have the atv launcher on my shield, and so if I don't press home key, it stays on this format. But I just want to be able to stay in when I press home key. I can still activate it if I click the icon.. But it doesn't work like his video says. That's the frustration part.. It looks effortless initially. But then this video there's more steps involved. We'll see how we go.. Thanks again

I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I was trying to add widgets in the wolf launcher. I understand that it takes ADB shell remote. Is that correct. I was thinking that the shell remote want work on the 2nd generation fire tv box

Honestly it's not against you, I'm very used to computer fiddling and I found your tutorial very badly explained, you go too fast, you don't explain the reason of the modifications, we have to follow blindly without knowing what we are really doing and I find it very dangerous, besides why do we have to install LauncherX before Custom Launcher? What is it exactly? You don't explain it,
The links to download the applications also I find it too long with Downloader, why not put the links in the comments and let us download it on our mobile and then move it ourselves on our box?
I followed the tutorial to the letter and my Shield behaves very strangely since, I feel like I damaged it... I really don't recommend this tutorial to anyone, sorry.
