I've purchased this game ages ago and I must say that it really went long way. Realistic mode is a best way to play this game. I remember that I always used to have my first distric in Cities Skylines after hour or two of gameplay. In this game - in realistic mode - it takes me few days of gaming to actually start building first district. And it is soooo much fun doing all the infrastructure, buying machines, setting construction of roads, warehouses ect. I agree that this is one of best citybuilders ever created... not to mention that this is a work of tiny studio.

One thing I really love about this game is that you can opt to just instantly build anything with money, OR you can use your own resources from your own industries to let your own citizens build things for you, for free.
I wish more city builders did something like this, where you can actually see your city get to work on something. It makes it feel more alive and not like you just click and spawn a building out of thin air.

I bought this game a little while ago.
It really needs a progression system to guide new players.
It’s too overwhelming to get into.

It has sort of a campaign now, with the Last Update, and it guides you, to what you should do, and where you should focus first, before advancing on more complex industries.

      I found the tutorials useful.
You can also turn off the individual needs (like heating, crime and justice, waste management, etc) in the settings for setting up your own game, so that you can learn different mechanics at your own pace.

I picked this one up in it's infancy. It's definitely the best city/society builder manager available on Steam. No question. The devs are awesome and build this game with a lot of love. It's also one of the most replayable games on Steam. And it is HUGE! Massive learning curve and the replayability is basically forever. It has a railway and transport system to easily rival Transport Tycoon, a LOT more complexity than any City Skylines game, elements of factorio and everything has layers and layers of detail in terms of management. And you can lovingly build everything from scratch over hundreds of hours of gameplay on just one map (really the best way to play!). Then start all over again on a different map and it'll be a different game. I've loved this game for years now! It's a huge game and lots of stuff can and will go wrong until (and even long after) you get the hang of it and learn how all the features work together and how to balance all those features. There's so much there that even experts miss stuff. Too difficult? There are a range of difficulty levels and you can remove some of the game play elements any time you want and gradually add it in over time any time you want. Play it your way. And every play-though is different. Complexity? Paradox has to be ridiculously jealous of this one. Awesome game!

I’ve hundreds of hours in this game, it’s very very overwhelming. I recommend every tutorial (I’ve not tried the new campaign which apparently acts like a good tutorial too) but I recommend playing your first game with most things turned off, when you feel like you’ve figured it out, restart, turn on something new and rinse and repeat, each game you’ll learn things and eventually you’ll be playing full hardcore - and you’ll lose, many many times. But my god you’ll enjoy every time.
I’ll add my review of the game I left on the steam page to kind of explain this game:
At the time of writing I have close to 250 hours on this game, and I don't think I've even scratched the surface yet.
This game is brutal. It leads you down a lane of false security, around a corner then beats you down and steals your rubles. It is hard. There is a massive amount of difficulty options that allow you to reduce the beating it gives you. But playing this game on anything other than the hardest difficulty is doing yourself and the game a disservice, It has depth like no other city builder I have played. Let me touch on a few things it has..
    Water and sewage
you might think 'oh cities skylines has that, its not too hard' - WRONG. you dont have to think about water pressures, water consumption in industries, having a big reserve in case something fails, water treatment, supplying the water treatment plant, or staffing it. The space this all takes up and the time it takes to construct everything... oh yeah, construction
    Construction
You build everything, and I dont mean you click and it gets built in a second. You must transport tons and tons of materials and manpower and machines to your job sites and spends time building whatever it is. and if you decide you dont want it there, good luck. This game requires planning and thought. Its not a simple matter, I planned an entire stone quarry area for over thirty minutes, and when it was complete I realized I had forgotten something. Deconstructing something also takes time, transportation of materials and manpower, but now you have tons of waste left over... Oh yeah, waste.
    Waste
You must transport every piece of waste produced by your city. Human trash, Industrial trash, demolition trash. Where do you put it? good question because I still haven't gotten the hang of it yet so ill get back to you...
I wont go into any more detail about the countless other features such as citizen needs, production lines, raw material management, trade, transport, crime and punishment, vehicle and building management and maintenance, research, loyalty, child care, education... the list could go on..
All in all, this game has extremely intense production lines, production planning and general city planning aspects which make it one of the greatest true 'City Builders' ever made. This is a true city builder, you feel like you have built something, you feel genuine pride seeing it succeed. When you first turn a profit off the hours of work put into an industrial area you are relieved and happy and then something goes wrong.. you fail... you think.. and you start again, learning every time.
This game has genuinely made me appreciate my city more. I notice trucks going into construction sites, I notice industrial facilities and think 'That makes sense' because you have to apply genuine logic to building. I don't think many people will actually like this game unless you're a border line masochist because it will beat you down time and time again. but its the climbing back up which makes it worth it.

Thanks for the great review. I am at the fence at the moment. It sounds like a tremendous learning curve. If the systems are well balanced and it works well this Sim may be really worth the effort.
I am a little bit afraid that it may result in painstakingly much micro management. How is that aspect?

    • @FiniteFr
      @FiniteFr 7 місяців тому

@@firstclaw1the systems work amazing, your level of micromanagement depends on your level of difficulty, you can start easy and have certain things auto buying into shops for example so food is never a worry if you have money or you can have multiple farms into factory’s and distribute that food yourself and safe some money and get the enjoyment of self sufficiency. It’s a true city builder, you will fail and fail but then you’ll be successful, I recommend some of the channels that do full series lil bbaljo or Charlie prior and watch their series to understand how low it is when you start and how it improves as you go

Depends on the game settings you chose. W&R can be played as sandbox with unlimited money up to Realistic Mode.
You can start off with easy settings and next game add e.g. water management, fire or energy/fuel.
That way you will also increase complexity and o.c. micro management though in this game this means more like setting up the infrastructure, connect supply lines, add vehicles and when those are done: start the engine and let it run by itself.
Ofcourse you'll have to check things from time to time to see if adjustments need to be made or if you change something like e.g. switching from concrete import to your own production.
But basically: once things run they run by themselves

I still remember years ago when the dev was posting dev diaries of the game, I followed all the updates it had, and I never doubted it, I always thought it was a great game, the more updates it got, more it got me in love, it has features that not even Cities Skylines can dream of having it, way bigger than Sim City, this is what I call next generation, it's so good that all I wish is the game to look way better with graphics and textures, it already is good, but I think it deserves way more, it's too good, and the developer is great, he keeps the community knowing everything is coming, he listens to people suggestions and always make it better each update, he was talking about making a new city builder game and I'm extremely excited to see it, I expect to see great things, this game has a special place in my heart 😊

The complexity is its biggest advantage and weakness. With so many complex delicately balanced systems it is really really hard to get a republic started. The release of the long-awaited campaign mode can finally let you dive in the game without having to spend ages setting it all up. Then when you finally get tired of pre established systems you can build your entire Republic from scratch and it won't be a chore. I know all of this sounds really negative but this is the most amazing and complex industry and social management game ever made. I really do love it but it really frustrates me how hard it is to get into.

One funny thing to add - you mentioned how big the map is. Well, it's actually just capped at this value by devs due to stability and optimization. It is possible to have much larger map - instead of default 20x20, there can be 30x30, or 60x60, or even bigger, there are no limits in a way. Of course pc required to run said maps needs to be powerful enough, but there are options, a few of them even published on the workshop

The game looks really terrible on your 10 series GPU, and as an adult and professional content creator you should maintain a more presentable channel.
