My Dad was a physician who took care of Lee Major’s Mother. Actually, she was Lee Major’s Aunt. Lee’s Mother and Father were killed in a car wreck when they lived in Ohio. Lee was a very young boy when his parents were killed. So, Lee was raised by his Aunt and Uncle. My fifth grade teacher would ride with Lee to attend Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. When I later attended E.K.U., I once got on an elevator, and was greeted by Lee Major’s son who was also going to school there, back in the 80’s when I graduated from there. When I attended Middlesboro High School, I was friend with two of Lee Major’s cousins, and one of their father’s was a mechanic who worked on my father’s lawn mowers when they needed to be fixed. He was Lee Major’s cousin. He was just a very down to earth “country boy.” LOL! The whole time I was growing up, I only saw Lee Majors one time. The High School football field had a dedication to Lee, where they installed a plaque in his name. Of course, he came for the dedication. There is a soda fountain and pool hall in the downtown area “The Sport Center” was one of Lee Major’s “hang outs” when he was in High School. I did see Lee walking down the sidewalk heading toward “the Sport Center” when he came for the football field dedication back in the 80’s. I guess he was going to check up on old friends. But, I never knew Lee Major’s. I only personally knew Lee’s cousins. And, we never talked about Lee Majors. LOL! This was all back in the 1980’s. I have been away from Middlesboro for nearly 30 years, though I often go back there many times a year. I make my home a little over an hour in Tennessee now.
US Army vet here thank you for mentioning us all in your video. We came to Tenn. On vacation and used your videos as research on where to go and what to do. We loved Big T and winston is as cute as can be.. y'all have a great day.. Fans in Ohio
Hey, Mike and Karen, It's Shelley. I just wanted to say thank you for stopping by Legacy Down South. I hate that we've missed you both times. We appreciate you supporting local shops. Let us know next time you guys will be in town, and I'll have Karen a custom hat she can have. We've had two people this week that came in and said they follow you guys❤️ Be safe and happy travels!!
Six million dollar man Bigfoot was the best. We stopped at that overlook. It's beautiful. We sent a picture to my father in law (VIETNAM VET) he cried!.
I was born and raised in Middlesboro. It's always interesting to hear others' take on the area who are just visiting. When you are overly familiar with a place, you become blind to its charms (or lack of the same).
I am so thankful we found your videos!!! My daughter and I love them so much! Very thankful for all Veterans! My grandpa served in WW1 and my daddy was in both WW11 and the Korean War. Thank you to every Veteran!!!
I was born and raised in Middlesboro. The Wilderness Road Campground across the mountain in Virginia, is the best campground in the whole South-East in my opinion! It is fully wooded with tons of shade. There is a nice, short hiking trail up to sky-light cave. You have Montgomery’s Store where you can buy items that you need. And, the Montgomery’s are some of the nicest people that you will ever meet. It is quiet and peaceful in the campground, and park rangers give campfire programs at the amphitheater in the summer months.
Mike and Karen, where's that cute little Winston at? Really enjoyed your video! Y'all go to some interesting places and beautiful too! Your burgers looked so good and better than the Wolf Brand Chili I had with cheese. Karen, love your hat and beautiful dress you bought! Love y'all and God Bless You!❤️❤️❤️
Karen, I am 69 almost 70 and drive a 39' class A motorhome. I park it too. You can do anything you want to. Hubby does the outside hook ups and dumps... lol
I been to Veterans Overlook /Bean Station. Beautiful tribute to service men and women. My eldest son served USAF🇺🇸 Drove thru Middlesport and Williamson both ,didn't realize Coal houses.Defintely check out Cumberland Gap-Waterfall,Corbin has the original KFC &museum. Barbourville ,Ky is a very quaint lil town with good coffee shops, boutiques and a decorative Alley great for photo ops.. Also,Great choice on the dress and hat, soon as Karen put on the hat that green brought out her pretty eyes. After reading thru the comments may I suggest the name..Big T Freeta😃
Congratulations to the Couch's on your 25th. We spent our 25th at a cabin in Pigeon Forge and saw the Righteous Brothers in one of their last concerts at Harrah's Casino in Cherokee NC
Hi Karen and Mike, my family lives just down the mountain from veterans overlook. The mountain is Clinch Mountain. When you get to the bottom your in Bean Station. Love Winston he's a cute little guy. Have fun be safe ,can't wait to meet youins. God blees
Great video Mike and Karen! You were in my state! Beautiful view to have lunch! Yes, I watched the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman! I enjoy your videos so much! Karen couldn’t have said it better as in a suggestion for your RV….”FREEBIRD”!!!!
So glad to watch this video! Each time we go to the mountains from Indiana, we leave the interstate at Corbin and go through the Cumberland Gap tunnel. We usually stop at Veterans Overlook. Can’t wait for our next trip over 4th of July!
My husband says Thank you🇺🇸 Great job driving Karen 👍🏻 I'm with Karen about driving 🚘 Yes Mike you look good in the apron😅 No Wiston 🐾🤔 Thanks for sharing your adventures 🤗♥️. God bless
I just want to let you know that we have been watching all of your videos. We really enjoyed them. We are going to be working camping at one of the campgrounds you had a video about and can’t wait to eat at all the restaurants you have visited. 😂 thanks for sharing your videos and good wholesome Christ filled content. 😊
My comment is not going through. I'm trying one more time. Great video. I love these kind of videos. History and seeing God's beautiful creations. Thanks to all the veterans, including my dad. Great job driving, Karen. Tell my man, Winston, hey 👋. Hugs 🤗 and kisses 😘 to him. I love him ❤ and ya'll too.❤ Thanks for sharing. Have fun. Be safe, and God Bless 🙏❤️
Very nice video. My youngest son is set to get out of the army at the end of March. He's been at Fort Drum NY for 3 years now and he's ready to come home
I think that since your van is on a Ram frame you should call it the Mountain Ram or the Bighorn. Or the Mountain Goat because people used to call Ram trucks goats.
Thank you guys another lovely video. Stunning area ...looking forward to been bk over in America in June from south east Ireland. In TN and many other places .... This Irish guy will have alot of American miles driving under his belt 😁😁. Love your videos.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love all of your videos you share, but this one especially hit home. My mother was born/raised in Pennington Gap, VA. My father from Jonesville, VA. My dad was an Army veteran and spent a little over a year in Germany, so my mom, myself and older brother lived in Pennington Gap to be closer to family. We later moved to Indiana for my dad’s work but made many trips back to the area. I remember going from Middlesboro over the mountain, stopping at Cudjo’s Cave, before the tunnel was built. My maternal great-grandmother lived in Big Stone Gap and I remember traveling there as well. My wife’s family was from Sneedville, TN. So these videos and others from BSG bring back a lot of great memories. Thanks again! Congratulations on your new baby pug❤️ Winston!
Mike and Karen what a awesome video not enough words can express the feelings to our Veterans we try to go to all the memorials when we're in different states and towns. The escort at the tunnel is for oversize loads they generally have a front and rear escort and can only travel certain routes. Stay Safe and God Bless.👍🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
Thank you for your videos. You have now visited one of the sites on my bucket list and this program was so informative for me, I’ll definitely go this year. As a veteran, your honors and tribute are very moving for me now in my advanced years. Thank you for that. Greater love hath no man.
Class B, never heard of that.. but I like the looks of it! Last night I watched a bunch of videos about your dog "Big T" and I was sad as hell. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with the dog (Other than age) but I figure maybe he was just at the end of his life. I really like your new dog.. is he traveling with you.. "Winston" I believe.. ;)
Yes I watched the Six Million Dollar Man when I was a little boy. It was also during the time when TV was on the floor and we didn't use a remote to change the channels and to turn it off when it was Bed time. We had a Zenith. 😊💖
Middleboro had an event around Halloween called Pumpkin Alley. It’s been several years so not sure if they still have it. It was so much fun. The neighborhood have many carved pumpkins at their homes and all lite.I had seen an article in Southern Living Magazine about so we had to see. Any else remember it?
My husband and I took this way home last year because of construction on I-75. We didn’t want to be stuck in traffic for hours like we had going south to Tennessee. We were really surprised on how long that tunnel really was!!! I do remember seeing that sign about Lee Majors. Although we didn’t stop in Middlesboro, we thought it was a really nice town. I thought Abe Lincoln University was also pretty neat!! 💕💕
I’ve been through that tunnel many times my mom and dad are from Tazewell Tennessee and we go through the tunnel to get there from interstate 75 so I know exactly everything you’re showing lol thanks for sharing. I love that country.
I really enjoyed the video 😊. The comments all asking, ( where’s Winston ) made me 🤭. Thank you both for another great video and you did good driving 👍✝️
Hey everyone! This video was recorded before we got our little pug Winston.
