Saying "No" to new chapters made with Traitor Gene-Seed is probably the right call for Guilliman to make. People tend to forget that Gene-Seed is not just a fantastical piece of genetic engineering that makes it possible to create super-soldiers, it also involves a heavy degree of Warp-fuckery that re-engineers the SOUL of the man they implant with it, to make him truly his Primarch's son, both physically and metaphysically. Not only that, but it also hard-codes reverence and deference toward the Astartes' Primarch into every strand of DNA they have. It's not exactly mind-control, but it is a strong instinctive influence on them. I suspect that both of these factors would make creating new chapters from Traitor Gene-Seed a Very Bad Idea. A direct connection to the marine's very soul, and an instinctive submission to them would make corrupting these new Primaris marines absolute child's play for any of the Daemon Primarchs.
@imperadoraureo "What could go wrong?" A phrase usually said before everyone and everything is on fire or has exploded.. Alfa legion is "pretty lit tho" as the younguns say.
Don’t let Valrak see this comment, he’s a hardcore Imperial Fist fan and a big fan of Sigismund (tho who isn’t) and he probably would get one of his subscribers to forcefully make me wear the Magic Pain Glove.
Sad you didn't mention that the blood swords are the holders of the unique honor of being the only known chapter to have a dreadnoght for their chapter master for a bit. After the destruction of their home planet, they lost basically their entire command staff, and their eldest dreadnaught, daggan, took up the mantle of chapter master.
"Why not have a second founding chapter fall to Chaos", idk for me that'd need a lot of set up. It made more sense in the Horus Heresy because of the primarchs, most Astartes are very loyal to their genefather and the ones who hadn't fought alongside the Emperor only needed their primarch to fall for them to go with him. For a second founding chapter to fall they'd need to establish a specific Astartes becoming like mini loyalist Abadon for a chapter and then have a fall that brings a bunch down with him which would be cool for a couple books to a trilogy but not a one shot
You had me on the edge of my seat. I really thought the promethean kings were real. I get most of my lore from videos, I only recently started reading my first book. I'm a big salamander fan, and I thought this was an interesting story. The twist caught me so off guard my jaw hit the floor I love it.

I doubt he ever would. Russ is like the Lion in that they are incorruptible but he is going to be a severely sombre man when he does return, no longer the jovial savage but haunted and tired. I think he, the Lion and Guiliman are going to have a long talk and a lot of drinks in a quiet chamber when they reunite, hopefully at the table Guiliman prepared.

Hell yeah. I would totally go that way. I like the part of the 90 or so marines in leadership was from the great crusade. And this would go well with some of the lore in the salamanders. They found a ship filled with crusade era armour, so it’s possible.
Kaldor Draigo is unironically a pseudo-Primarch, it's heavily implied he has the noble shard of Magnus impeded in his soul which at the very least would make him the Imperium's version of a Ctan shard being tossed across the warp to fight demons (it also would explain why the warp fuckery has empowered him to demi-God level since he's basically a Daemon Prince).
I was going to get reactive about your suggestion that Leman fell to chaos and brought his greatest with him, but I see you mostly 180'd on it. Though I also agree that in a story driven setting and not a money driven setting, your idea would be interesting.
My only exposure to the grey knights has been the Emperors gift by ADB which I enjoyed a lot... It mainly depicts Hyperion (an even stronger psyker than most grey knights) in his growth and transformation into a grey knight, and then in one of the wars for Armageddon, an entire brotherhood battles demons and Demon Prince Angron. out of 100+ grey knights, only 13 or so survived. I was okay with this scale considering what they were up against, a demon incursion with Angron. I dont mind that they are the best space marines... they remind me of loyalist thousand sons, minus the egyptian getup. I don't look forward to reading some of the other Grey Knights novels. But hey, thats why I try to pick and choose the best written novels in the black Library.
Russ would never turn to Chaos. For starters his whole "berserker" mentally is just a facade. Russ just played the brute to make his brothers underestimate him. The only person who knew better was Horus himself. However... seeing as Corax is an uber-powered by the warp to the point he can ragdoll a Daemon Primarch around. It wouldn't surprise me if Russ can now do that too. (Personally I want Russ to return will full on Sorcery powers - Just so Magnus can have just a huge aneurysm at the sheer hypocrisy the Galaxy as just slapped him across the face with. XD)
@@vulkanofnocturne only problem with that is Magnus doesnt seem to care about the truth at all. I agree about interesting chapter lore. My custom chapter were Dark Angels critical of the breaking of Caliban and exiled to a remote world. They were forced to utilize Iron Warriors geneseed to replenish their ranks due to their abandonment. And since the DA ignore them, they became honorary Templars, echoing the friendship of Dantioch and Pollux. An errant Marshall recognized their dedication to the Imperium and took them on a battle brothers.
I'm still amazed by the fact that the Angels of Absolution took a good hard look at their father chapter and said: "No, we did not do a goddamn thing, suck my metal machine."

Grey knights being more powerful fighting demons than CSM kind of makes sense to me, if your big thing is suppressing chaos it would make sense you have a bigger advantage fighting a being made of chaos compared to one being supplemented by it
A singular focused tool, a brotherhood of psykers, that empower each other. I enjoy the singular aspect of the knights. Their dreadnought are incredibly rare, but I would love to see a single named venerable psychic dreadnought character.
I don’t know if it’s canon or not but I love how the orks don’t like to fight flesh testers because they will start eating the dead mid battle and that freak them out
Considering many of the Chapters of the Unforgiven arrived for the assault against Vashtor, I wonder if the Lion is also gathering the Chapters that were not able to make it there.
I miss when the Grey Knights were analogues of Dante from the Inferno. Since each of the 6 or 7 terminator models were characters in their own way and they each spent most of their time in the warp doing the crawl through the 9 circles of hells thing. They were cool, they were build around something that was based (as with everything GW made) on something from literature, history or pop culture. Then something happened and GW started to just churn out a load of sterile, soulless crap. An entire army of Grey Knights with silly matrix-esk walkers and even biggerer everythings... ergg
Probably one of my personal hotter takes is that the grey knights just kinda suck as a thing and do just seem like someone saw all the different space marines and thought "okay but what if my guys could do all of those things, but also they're all magic and are way more important than all the others, just cus"
I do hate to simply say they are better than other marines, I would like them to focus on the psychic brotherhood aspect, with them being better together. I like the idea that their single focus should eliminate the "I can do it better" aspect, they are simply one singular tool and the others of the imperium are absolutely essential.
Corvus has been in the eye of terror for ages now and is still loyalist, and even Lorgar says he isn't really a daemon as chaos gods and their servants are so Russ wouldn't necessarily be damned to chaos
In the Fulgrim novel, Fulgrim’s primary styling trick was to lead an attack by performing an atmospheric re-entry, so that his personal Thunderhawk was glowing orange and red and trailing fire _like a phoenix._ The Sons of the Phoenix seem to have adopted that flair as well.
Dude I absolutely loved your simultaneously laid back yet deep look at 40K lore. You have the aura of a chilled academic and I love it so much! Please keep up the good work - your videos are amazing!!
I’ve been immersed in the lore of 40k for literal decades, and I fell, fully and completely, for the lore of the Salamander’s successor chapter hook, line, and sinker. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here in the corner applying my clown makeup 😂😂
I’d be okay with the Grey Knights if it was explicitly confirmed that their geneseed was chimeric from the original Knights Errant. They can still say that it was the Emperor’s geneseed in the sense it was blended from loyalist Astartes that rejected the corruption of their respective legions and their purity is a distillation of that.
I do agree, but as a knights fan I would prefer them to not be seen as a main character, but as the best wingman possible for specific events. Though the brainwashing bit always leaves me sour, I'd like to see them more helpful and open. Idk
Am glad i watched this vid cause at some point in my Deathwatch army (yes am new to warhammer and yes DW is my first army XD) but At some point in my DW army I want to add a ATV but wanted either 2 marine chapters who hate eachother to be driving it or 2 that have some sort of history and thanks to this video I now know that the Star Dragons and the Blood Swords will be perfect for it. Also love your vids lad. Listen to them while I paint.
So for the grey knights being able to slap demons around but can't handle the death guard I always imagine it as the grey knights are so hyper trained to fight Desmond they don't know how to fight anything else lol
Phoenix got its name from Phoenicia and not the other way around. At least that’s what many people believed in the Middle Ages (very likely not true at all.)
I do like the Idea of Leman Russ & his lad are no longer Loyal but I think it would be more interesting that even Chaos don't want Russ & his Wolf's boys. Have Russ go full Viking & be a raiding band of Marauders working on nothing but instinct like wild beasts that even Chaos can't corrupt as their isn't anything left to corrupt. Like a wold animal such as an Eagle. bear. wolf etcetera are not loyal or disloyal like Chaos as the animal acts on nothing but the primordial. Make Leman Russ what he should be as nothing more then a feral beast that even Korn doesn't want to touch as he takes all the liquor, riches & arms he can on his voyaged path. It makes the most sense why no one knows were Leman Russ is as he has been on an multi-millennia pillage were he has not left anyone alive to tell the tale be they Chaos or loyalist. Space Wolfs & Leman Russ are personally near the bottom for Primarchs but if he went anarchical to disregard Chaos & loyalists that seems in character while making him finally interesting for a change. I even like the Idea that Leman Russ has near forgotten how speak to utter the shortest words & bark orders as if rabid.
I did the math out once for how much blood it would take to make a knife (I have a blood disorder with excess iron and blood donation [or ritualistic blood letting] is a drug free treatment) and it would take hundreds of pints, I could make a small blade in a few decades but making friends with a local butcher would probably be a way easier route. A whole person only has a couple grams of iron in them so a pound would take 100-200 people
Is it that the four chaos gods have backup legions, or that the Chaos Gods have secondary aspects that they are having a second legion with the secondary focus as their primary?
With respect to Grey Knights being better than other Astartes chapters, allow me to offer a contemporary analogy that might help. The United States Department of Defense… Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Ask around among those who know and they’ll tell you that the military has some exceptional individuals. Some of those guys stand out and find their way to advanced infantry/special operations like the Rangers, Seal Teams, MarSoc, and Greet Berets, etc…All bad ass. But among those guys, some stand out and keep moving up to units like Team 6, STS-24, Ranger Recon, etc…But some of THOSE guys are so exceptional that they stand out amongst their already best of the best peers. Those guys find their way to Delta and the ISA. Then some of THOSE guys are so unbelievably bat-shit insane-o exceptional that they are literally removed from the Dept of Defense roster and are tasked to CIA Ground Branch where they go around to manage things that DOD has to be able to plausibly deny. For the most part, these guys don’t stand out physically. They just look like regular ass, fairly fit guys who blend in and develop the situation whenever they may find themselves. And on those days when literally no one can beat the bad guys, they do. I see the Grey Knights in the same light. Every organization, regardless of size or set up , will always have the odd stand-outs who keep quiet and do work that others can’t or won’t do and usually better than anyone else can. Grey Knights 😊
If you think the grey knights writing is bad and inconsistent, research about the time when a single custodes single handedly killed alot of traitor marines in one book (forgot where but I've read that somewhere) then in another book, 5~10 custodes got absolutely massacred by a naked traitor/chaos marine of the word bearer, like wtf aren't they supposed to be the magnum opus of the Emperor second only to the primarchs? 😂
Im personally of the opinion the when Leman Russ comes back (we all know he is, dont lie to yourselves) that Lion and Leman will both physically look older and be far more introspective and slow to anger being Roboute's closest and wisest advisors while when Dorn returns he'll be more aggresive like his Black Templar sons.
I kind of understand the Grey Knights being good against deamons, that's their whole shtick and they have almost exclusively anti-deamon weaponry. I could buy them wiping the floor with regular Space Marines, because every single Grey Knight is in Tactical Dreadnought Armor (Terminator Armor) and thus a lot tougher to kill. But yeah, fighting Slaneesh, or Mortarion?
Im so pissed (as a GK player) that in the artwork at 14:20 the Grey Knight does have a storm Plasmagun, like a Plasmagun but two so better. In GK We dont have any Plasma Guns (exept for the occasional venerable dreadnought but then the twin lascannon is better) and we whould need them so much, or a rocket launcher or a melter, something to threaten big things. its so cool and i cant have it.
Right? Demonic engines exist, I'd like to see psychic rockets or plasma. Might be a decent way to introduce primarils marines... though I'd also love to see a named venerable dreadnought due to their rarity in the faction.

1:40:01 The Guardian Spear that the Deathwatch's big guy has was straight up given to them by the custodes. It's not anything sus.
Oh you god damn son of a gun! You got me with that Salamander one. I laughed so hard that my cat had a heart attack!
Wow I can’t believe it’s been a year since you announced this. Happy to have rocked with you all this time.
Where my crimson fists at 😭
Same here brother :(
In the Fulgrim novel, Fulgrim’s primary styling trick was to lead an attack by performing an atmospheric re-entry, so that his personal Thunderhawk was glowing orange and red and trailing fire _like a phoenix._ The Sons of the Phoenix seem to have adopted that flair as well.
I enjoyed hearing everywhere at the end of time while you talk about the lesser known chapters. Very uh....it was very...what were we talking about?
I love the raptors from Pete the Wargamer's videos, and I love the idea of a chapter ancient wearing the original paint scheme
Dude I absolutely loved your simultaneously laid back yet deep look at 40K lore. You have the aura of a chilled academic and I love it so much! Please keep up the good work - your videos are amazing!!
Also the line “Can you imagine trying to get this man his doctorate? Didn’t fucking think so!” cracks me up to no end every time I hear it 😂
My brother you gotta chill with the dementia music, that shit is giving me anxiety lmao
"But you don't fucks with The Lion is kind of the end point of that story." Many such cases.
I’ve been immersed in the lore of 40k for literal decades, and I fell, fully and completely, for the lore of the Salamander’s successor chapter hook, line, and sinker. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here in the corner applying my clown makeup 😂😂
9:17-9.26
The alpha legion neophyte cracks under torture, but has not revealed the plan
A Red Scorpions ep would be cool af (maybe as the WB successors). They have a decent amount of lore and (imo) have decent flavor.
The Emperor’s spears are the best blue boy successors fight me
29:33 is exactly how I feel about Exorcists. Making them IF immediately makes them more dull than rumours about being GK or WB successors
Old Painless is a reference from the 1st Predator movie.
Take on dark wolves, feels like a stretch
Arthur I've never agreed to your opinion more than the Grey Knights one. They really are just Gary Stu ocs as a space marine "Legion"
I do agree, but as a knights fan I would prefer them to not be seen as a main character, but as the best wingman possible for specific events. Though the brainwashing bit always leaves me sour, I'd like to see them more helpful and open. Idk
Chaos Russ is HERESY!!
the part I always remember about hje omnibus was Adhemar and the dread fight
Templars were my first and I have never looked back
*well, stop the space wolves did kick their butt at one point*
I like the grey knights jut becuase they look like knights, Lol, I'm a pretty simple dude and that they're kept secret.
Listen to them while I paint.
um ackshually octavia was a navigator. and was the only way to get their ship to travel through the warp.
holy emperor those star dragons look amazing
After 2 years of bingeing on WHK40 lore I was getting a little jaded. This video was great.
2:21:30 i relate so hard, hell main reason im watching this is im struggling with my loyalist marines chapter
So for the grey knights being able to slap demons around but can't handle the death guard I always imagine it as the grey knights are so hyper trained to fight Desmond they don't know how to fight anything else lol
Totally agree, I enjoy the hyper focus of the group. Warp in, charge objective, fight demons, die or win.

Phoenix got its name from Phoenicia and not the other way around. At least that’s what many people believed in the Middle Ages (very likely not true at all.)
Mr. Bones did you know there is a town in Alberta called “ball sack”. Spelled Balzac but pronounced the same. Just a little Canadiana trivia.
It wasn't bone, but the small amount of iron that is in a human body. Needless to say it would take a lot of people even to make a single ingot.
A whole person only has a couple grams of iron in them so a pound would take 100-200 people
Sons of the Phoenix are definitely emperor's children
The first set of guys that got told, "you are no longer part of *insert legion/chapter*
Is it that the four chaos gods have backup legions, or that the Chaos Gods have secondary aspects that they are having a second legion with the secondary focus as their primary?
The black templar book is fricking awesome!
You had me with the Promethean Kings, even though it was all made up their story sounded really cool
Promethium Kings live!
The Chosen of Nemeroth video? im doing them for my chaos space marines :)
you know I thought the salamanders didn't have anything but you got I started to believe. I wanna make them now.
Low key the Promethean Kings are really cool though. You did a great job homebrewing Salamanders imo
Grey Knights aren't just a "space marine chapter." They're like Space Marine Special Forces. I'm not a Grey Knights fan either but.
The petroleum sions now exist in my head canon
That background lullaby ... Gimme it!!🫱🏽
1:36:26 the fear of old people made me shit a brick, wasn't ready
Hey what’s the song in your videos the background music please tell me
I thought grey knights were to be Magnus the reds new army
Ayyy, finally the whole 20 chapters for me to see while I work
With respect to Grey Knights being better than other Astartes chapters, allow me to offer a contemporary analogy that might help.
Can anyone remind me what deathguard chapter it is that's all about loving life, they literally love everything that lives.
Would you not put the silver skulls more a link to barbaros dantioc?
If you think the grey knights writing is bad and inconsistent, research about the time when a single custodes single handedly killed alot of traitor marines in one book (forgot where but I've read that somewhere) then in another book, 5~10 custodes got absolutely massacred by a naked traitor/chaos marine of the word bearer, like wtf aren't they supposed to be the magnum opus of the Emperor second only to the primarchs? 😂
2 founding chapters and beyond are almost always more interesting than the OCs
Right? Like demonic machines exist. We need psychic rockets or plasma. That would be sick
Right? Demonic engines exist, I'd like to see psychic rockets or plasma. Might be a decent way to introduce primarils marines... though I'd also love to see a named venerable dreadnought due to their rarity in the faction.
I want to mention regarding Sotha, Cawl promised and his making good on said promise., to terraform Sotha anbd restore it into a lush Agri world again. So in a sense they have recovered their world.
It's going to take years, but I heard that too. Hopefully Cawl can work to do that but it's going to take close to a millennia to so. Still listed in wikis as a dead world but I have a lot of hope that will change
47:27 I agree with you wholeheartedly on smaller chapters being interesting.
