    Great watch style suggestions, Jeff. I own 16 watches, from Rolex to Seiko. I collected these watches over the years. However, if someone asks me what is the best first watch, I suggest a diver. It is great in sports and casual dress. In a pinch, you can wear it with a suit. Seiko's skx007 is typically about $200 and is a great first watch. Even members of the watch community that own high-end pieces, still respect the 007. There you have it. My suggestion for the guy that can only afford one watch. Keep the great content coming.

    • @chelious1973
      @chelious1973 5 років тому +4

      Savvy Life Strategies.
      I think other than a diver a good GADA (Go Anywhere Do Anything) would be better.
      What kind of watch? Its all subjective. I think a Explorer 214270 fits the bill or a Aqua Terra. Or if you want a quality piece without breaking the bank a Tag Heuer Carrera Day Date.
      But those are expensive. A Nice Hamilton, Seiko, or Oris can be had for the price for one of the Explorer or Aqua Terra.
      I personally switched over to a small colection of higher end pieces. Rolex, Omega, IWC, and just picked up a Heuer Auctiva with the Heuer 02 in house movement. ( Fantastic Piece).
      I try to keep all my purchases in the $2500 to $5000 range. These watches retain their value well, and on the Grey market or pre-owned you get the biggest bang for your buck.

      Savvy Life Strategies. TY. I really don’t trade up or down anymore. I really didn’t wear but a few pieces, just kept the ones i wore the most. Traded all the others i didn’t wear for a 2017 explorer and the Auctiva. I just have four pieces now, with room for just two more in my six slot watch box. That way my wife doesn’t give me grief and keeping each piece at or below $5000 is easier on the wallet. Keeping a higher end smaller collection at the $5000 or below price point allows you to trade in a piece for a newer model if inclined. As each piece was bought grey market or pre-owned financially i am losing practically nothing or very little. Only way i am trading anything ever again is if i like the newer models better than the one i currently own of the same model. Maybe when i have grandchildren i will probably do the same. 👍

    Good video OG.
    I started wearing a watch a few years ago after watching a video my AlphaM. He enumerated items that all mean should wear.
    To keep it all the way real I usually buy a very inexpensive watch from Walmart- I like a simple clean time piece that is very clear and easy to see the time. Stainless steel coated or something with a wrist band that coordinates with my outfit. I really don't know much about wrist watches in order to buy an expensive one.
    Back in the day (mid 90$) we all wore Fossil watches so when I decided to rock a watch I went on OfferUp and found a black Fossil watch. It was my first wrist watch.

    Dropping in to say two things 1)I enjoy your videos and hope you keep doing your thing. I've noticed that men have been falling down that "too casual/sloppy road" and this is much needed and appreciated. 2) this isn't a mistake, but more of an alternate to the "one watch and more than one" necessity. I own a silver Fossil Explorist and have purchased multiple quick release watch bands. Also, I have downloaded numerous watch faces for different occasions and times of day. Leather bands and a more simpler face for more formal or metal/nylon/silicone bands with a sporty face for other times. Like I said, keep doing your thing, God bless and hope to see more content.

The metal bands don't always jive with watch housing. The color and bands should be a no brainer, but it must be said! Keep up the good work and mistakes happen, those that just focus on the one or two made should look at the several hundred other words that were said correctly! i've done some playing around with a bunch of outfits and watch combos, everything from dressed up to dressed down. if you don't have the budget for 5+ watches for every occasion, you can go with just a dress watch and a dive watch. they'll definitely cover the most ground for you, especially if you get a bunch of straps (metal, leather, nato, silicone, etc) to customize the look up and down as needed. a dive watch can go from a super casual streetwear look with the right strap all the way up to certain business casual looks, while the dress watch can go from formal all the way down to a general casual look, again with the right band.
    side note, if you plan on doing weight in the gym, get a g-shock or something similar, or don't wear a watch to the gym at all. i've had the shock from the weights crack more than a couple crystals before i figured that out

      If you're only going to have ONE watch at the moment and you don't wear a suit daily, I recommend something a little more casual. Something relatively simple like a field or pilot-style watch with two bands, a more casual (like a nato or zulu strap) and a more dressy leather band.

    Thank you for the tips my G. My brother put me on to your channel and I'm feeling it. Love the presentation. I break a few of the rules because I like it. I wear bigger bezel watches because I feel the small ones are too dainty and make my hands look huge. So anywhere from 45 mm to 48/49mm is where I like my watches. And I love to rock my dive watches, especially the ones with a metal band, with suits. Big Bond fan. I figure I follow the rules with the rest of my clothing, I will personalize my look with my watches and hosiery. But one must know the rules in order to know which one to bend or break. Thanks again.

I agree with you on all points, especially when it comes to proportion, and which wrist to wear it. Good info. I shared with my Boo. I got him to start wearing watches. Now I need to find the equivalent video for ladies.

    What watch is that at 3:05?
    It looks like the same logo Vostok has, but I don’t recognize the model.

    I have a g-shock gst b100 for my everyday watch. I think it fits just perfectly but I would like a second opinion. I have a 6.7 inch wrist. A pretty small wrist but the G-shock does, in my opinion, fit just right.

    Hello Style O.G hope you're doing well. I have a question. I'm 40 and I still rock Vans when I'm wearing my dark jeans. I feel good and I think they look good. What is your take on wearing Vans as an older dude like myself?

    I got like two watches that r the same. One is gold with a black face and very thick, and the other is a silver and gold with a white face that’s is also the exact same thickness and all. Would they be the best to go with a nice tailored suit? Or they do much of a diver theme?

    Missed you at Menfluential Jeff. Hope all is well. Good list here. I've made most of these on my watch wearing journey. One to add is wearing watches based on the opinions of others. If you love a particular watch style and feel good wearing it, no one can tell you otherwise.

    What do you think about the Invicta watches that AR a larger case size I'm a big guy 6 6 250 lb and I like the bigger watches and I like to wear suits so my question is should I downsize my watch case from a 52 mm to maybe 47 millimeter

    • @KRW628
      @KRW628 5 років тому

      Kev, you can wear pretty much anything; you just don't want the watch lugs to extend past your wrist. Right now, I'm wearing a watch which is 50mm north to south, but my wrist is 75mm. Big watch on a bigger wrist looks just fine.

    Good basic all around rules here. To play devil's advocate, there are some watches that are versatile enough for every situation (boardroom to beach as the douchier amongst us would refer to them), for instance if you own an explorer 1, first gen AquaTerra, or mark 18 on a bracelet. Again it is a rarity, but there are a precious few that are that versatile. Great video!
