  • Part 1: a first-look at the Hitec Spectra 2.4GHz AFHSS spread spectrum system from Hitec.
This video gives a quick overview and asks why Hitec's system only uses about half of the available 2.4GHz band, while others such as Futaba FASST use the entire band.
See part 2 for a demonstration of the "scan mode" and how it can effectively sidestep other signals on the 2.4GHz band, such as video transmitters. This might make the system perfect for those who enjoy FPV flying.

i went 3.8miles with my aurora with the 9ch rx. didnt think twice about it. i highly recommend this system 100%. i fly pretty much every other day with several model from indoor 100g f3p to 100cc gassers and i haven't had one problem with it.

It looks like it uses less than half of the 2.4GHz band, maybe a third of it. Nice and informative video Bruce, keep them coming.

The forums can be helpful but you proving the claims with a spectrum analyzer is awesome. please keep posting.

    great video!
I have some questions to ask u
    1. is hitec system good?
    2. how is the range?

I always enjoy your videos, they are very good scientific reviews, but not so techy that I can't understand what you're saying.

Bruce, Im dissapointed. No smiley face tape holding the antenna on :D Cheers for the review

Ever designed a receiver? What comes in front of the LNA? Exactly; a bandpass filter to get a high SNR and therefore more range. And that is probably one of the reasons why a smaller bandwidth is preferred.

I have heard you say on one of your videos that you are limited to ten minutes. I see other videos on UA-cam that are much longer than that, some over two hours. Why can't yours be longer?

Need hitec spectra module 2.4ghz with older firmware for this scan mode ability. But the bad is after receiver disconected (bad signal) it will very hard reconnect to radio module again..

Is it worth it to change over my optic 6 or just get another radio. Seen them on ebay for 40 to 60 $ no receivers.

nice review, what about latency of the system?

Hitec is using this that way because they are using what is needed in the band spectrum. Some of there other "chinese" junkers are wide banded hogging the whole band WHY? You only need whats clear. If the low end of the band is getting interference it will move to the upper end of the band. Its a "smart" device.

because futaba fasst is damn expensive.
