Was playing co op with my friend. Russia declared war on him for no reason so he took one city. Then world congress "emergency" 3 civs declared war on him to "liberate" that city. Even in the diplo screen it showed both of us had 90 grievances against Russia. Peak civ6 diplo AI
That one time I wanted to try an oddball tall science game as freaking Maya, cyrus declared surprise war on me early on so I sighed and won a domination victory
Every game is a nice polite culture/science growth until my neighbor decides war. After liberating my neighbor to the winning team, another nation decides to declare war on the science city state that's keeping me on par with diety AI science. After politely assimilating their empire, my science and culture are world leading. A science/culture victory would be imminent, but my army has grown bored and nuclear weapons are almost done, so.... I guess dom?
The only time I can win a non domination victory is by beating the AI into irrelevance so I can finally do what I want without them declaring war on me constantly
Potato/Inca get surprise war'd by 3 different civs, and HE'S the one who gets a miilitary emergency called against him??? Man, world politics is brutal.
"Maybe there is a more interesting game had I gone for a more peaceful response." No, an irrationally aggressive AI deserves an irrationally aggressive response.
Also, I do have to respect Potato's decision to continue the war. He's fighting into Deity AI with a severely undertech'd army. This would be the real world equivalent of Ethiopia actually beating back Italy prior to World War II, where they were fighting tanks with literal bows.
I now understand my folly in thinking that I have an 'army' or attack force when I only have like 6 units. The railroad network for replenishment is also a great call out.
This series is a case study in why it’s so important to maintain declared friendships with the AI, especially if you are going for a peaceful game. A declared friend can’t weasel out of a GPT arrangement by backstabbing you with a war declaration.
This one is a just a dumpster fire of terrible luck and circumstances. This is one of my favorite civs. I’d love to see you take another crack at this under better circumstances.
Legitimately smart and interesting AI; the fights, the different fronts, the Cree building up their Maginot line towards you. This gave me old-school civ vibes, where everything was just more “political” and felt like it had a story to it. awesome! 👌
AI: I fear no man AI: *looks at Potato* But that thing is scares me *Proceeds to declare a global war failing to realize all the Potato wanted was peace*
I can win on Deity, but I absolutely cannot *vengeance war* Deity. I just can't bring myself to build enough units when there's buildings and districts to do!
Every time he doesn't build a mountain tunnel... and instead walks his builders and units allll the way around the massive mountain range... I die a little inside 🥲
It actually makes sense that a road would consume a charge, considering that Traders put down roads for free. You can't build railroads any other way, and they also cost Coal and Iron, so it makes sense that they don't cost charges.
Man. i was just building my empire with the norway and get double surprize war from england and spain, massbuild navy and changed my pacific scientific victory to an mass navy domination
I know this comes a little late, but your complaint at about 9 minutes rings true. Every time I go into a game of Civ 6 with the intent to be peaceful and chill, one of my neighbors in that game is decidedly un-chill.
Military engineers not being able to build roads without sacrificing a charge is the worst bs in this game by far. If anything should be revised for Civ7 I think it's the way this game handles roadways and transport in general.
Roads could just cost Gold instead of a charge. It would be equivalent of making another Engineer, except you don't have to send it to its work site again before continuing. It might even be possible to do a rather straightforward mod that allows adding a charge to the ME with a single click, costing 340 Gold (equivalent to buying half a ME in a city).
Me- Oh good, Potato playing inca. I always felt they had a ton of potential for a dominant science tall game but I just haven't been able to unlock their potential so I can learn here Shit. AI forced him into another war game that I can't blame him for. Watching him come back from losing his capital will be good at least, not just a snowball war game
This is why you should never feel bad about taking advantage of or otherwise exploiting the AI, because they will never hesitate to do the same to you.
Take Krakow (rather than waiting a turn for it to flip and give you era score) then immediately comment that you are heading to a dark age, which would have been prevented if you'd let Krakow flip
I’d love to have your turn 133 save file. Much different needs for a tall game my friend, especially in this scenario with this civ, terrain, and start location (neighbors, past actions, etc. Check out relations pages between all civs and I’d think they all hate Poland and England by now for declaring surprise wars and razing your cities. Firstly, you can simply raze free city Warsaw and reclaim the tiles and take zero grievances for doing so. Maybe even call for peace with Poland, liberate it to get free diplo and better relations with other civs, then raze it later after it’s loyalty is crushed beneath your massive city pressure. Settle east of Rodan and it’ll be yours in time with no need to conquer it. Commercial hubs and Traders should have become the absolute priority… to fund a bigger empire with more supporting infrastructure, strategic roads to manage rough terrain between your cities and a bigger army. Maybe even buy a few Great people to help - especially engineers. An industrial zone city to run logistics projects to snipe the ones you need. And dammit you need to explore north and west for more mountainous settles and conquest. Screw everywhere else. I’m thinking Golden Age war vs Scythia to claim her lands. More promoted war’qaqs to skirmish that terrain and fend off her light cavalry while you get better siege and defense tech. It may take a while, but your core cities are already in position to build tons of key wonders and fantastic districts. Your neighbors will continue to become crushed under the foot of your massive city pressure. Bread and circus projects to apply even more. Trust me they’ll ALL flip and you won’t need a big army to manage.
Dude the cities surrounding your empire are all low pop. It's probably faster (and less stressful) to do "peaceful" conquest (peace out, get golden age, spam bread and circuses, abuse your tall Incan cities)... With Poland, her remaining capital was rebelling anyway--you could've redirected your troops elsewhere... The amount of troops you lost trying to take that measly 3 pop GC city was definitely not worth it.
SUPER unlucky run. 4 Wars on potato, but military emergency is delcared against him. Capital gets JUST captured losing all unique buildings and impovements, only to build walls in one turn while being recaptured... Krakow flips independent rebuilding its walls and health when it was halfway down.. handles it like a champ tho
Sunk cost fallacy. You have already lost the resources you used in the war. Continuing the war for longer would just accrue more and more costs that wouldn't be worth it in the end. But then there's the chad way of doing things called "I have had enough with AI, time to forever war". It is very based.
Poland & Enland: "Who made you this kind of a destructive monster?"
Potato: "You did."

@@xabar_8725 Eeeeehhhhhhh...
Poland and England: Who taught you how to do this stuff?

Gotta love when you’re at war with 3 people, losing cities, everyone: ye, seems fine, but when you conquer 1 city it’s suddenly a military emergency 😂
Poland, England, Gran Colombia invade Inca, raise a city, capture the capital.
Inca takes 1 city.
Everyone: #istandwithpoland
@@yaziyo that's so ridiculous. Drives me nuts in my own game.
@@yaziyo in fairness that's pretty accurate to the real world

Potato/Inca get surprise war'd by 3 different civs, and HE'S the one who gets a miilitary emergency called against him??? Man, world politics is brutal.
try not to go on vengeful conquest against the unfair yet idiotic civ 6 AI challenge (literally impossible)
Always drives me nuts when the AI decides you're the warmonger when you're literally defending yourself
"Maybe there is a more interesting game had I gone for a more peaceful response." No, an irrationally aggressive AI deserves an irrationally aggressive response.
Whenever I'm Inca, I dedicate all my mental energy to producing an invisible +20 Warak'aq army that can pillage, kill, and then disappear again
Absolutely 💯 By far my favorite unique unit
Also, I do have to respect Potato's decision to continue the war.
He's fighting into Deity AI with a severely undertech'd army. This would be the real world equivalent of Ethiopia actually beating back Italy prior to World War II, where they were fighting tanks with literal bows.
To be fair, given the absolute state of italian tanks of the time, you could still have a real chance with bows and muskets
Vengeance against the AI after it pisses you off - relatable. Love it!
PMW: "I'm going to burn England to the ground and I'm going to enjoy every second of it."
Careful potato, your Irishman is showing.

I love how much inca improvements add to the terrain

Violence isn't the answer.
Violence is a question, and the answer is always yes.
Violence is always the answer in CIV 6.

I can win on Deity, but I absolutely cannot *vengeance war* Deity. I just can't bring myself to build enough units when there's buildings and districts to do!
Ah, I get it now. Tall game means that the first city was founded on a hill near a mountain. Makes sense.
Absolutely brutal, I'm really impressed at how you even managed to stay afloat through all of this.
"Human being is born good, it is the Civ VI's AI that corrupts them"
Poland declares war on you and then immediately loyalty-flips out of existence.
The city that was lost last episode looks like it would have had the oil that the Cree ended up getting.
Awesome, excited for the next episode! I would have thrown this game out 9-10 times by now.
Gotta love when you sunk-cost-fallacy yourself with war when someone pisses you off. It’s something I find myself falling into a lot.
Potato, if you don't want other civs to declare war on you, simply play with no other civs.
Moutain tunnels would help you speed your conquest just need a builder attached to a unit.
I love when Potato goes "forever war" time
Every time he doesn't build a mountain tunnel... and instead walks his builders and units allll the way around the massive mountain range... I die a little inside 🥲
imagine if Potato listened to his own advice from last episode: "Declare friendships as soon as you can!"

I've been waiting for 25 hours for this episode... :-/
Potato imma play tall also potato so I started blasting
This is one of your best videos in a long while. Very entertaining
when the game wants to be Dominated you damn well better Dominate it
22:40 well done potato, you discovered gambling
24:51 glitch in the matrix? D:

On this episode of potato experiencing the sunk cost fallacy (jk love the vid ^^)
You have to be super efficient to win a tall game which was ruined so only wide is viable now.
War the ultimate sunk cost fallacy ☠️
That same thought crossed my mind lol
Love when potato gets angry.

There's the mom joke, Potato at his best !!
That war declaration made this game so much more entertaining, I'm now invested
Potato: "I can't wait to play a nice, fun, slow, enjoyable tall culture game of Civ 6!"

The potato revenge tour begins 😂😂😂.
Man, it is always hard to continue watching after a game goes wrong, but you going sicko mode is making it entertaining
This is a big problem with playing tall. The enemy programs perceive you as weak, and you are forced to take their cities.

At 3:55 is the most relatable part of playing any 4x game.

Classic Potato, love it when he gets pissed at the AI 😂
Oddly reminiscent of my “tall, isolationist” domination Australia game

THIS is the thunderdome Potato secretly wished.
This is almost the exact same thatng that happened to me
The AI knew better. They have learned what happens when Potato promises a "peaceful" tall game.
