This might be my favorite Chelsea Wolfe song to date. The pairing of the industrial-sounding drums and bass with that gorgeous string part and Chelsea's falsetto is genius.
The depression she dwells in is definitely felt and heard in all of her music. I really like her sound and message. The bleakness of it all is refreshing and impactful. I am a Christian and so I do not believe that the bleakness and evil that is in the world is the end, but only a symptom of the need of redemption...there is hope. Regardless, she sings of emotional things that mean something and not of meaningless drivel that the masses produce. I am a fan.
I concur. Her music has helped me cope in some pretty tough situations during my walk with God. The things she has experienced starkly contrast with the glimmering jewels she produces as a result and I'm grateful for that.
downwiththemaster Wow, seriously? First of all, I am half-white. Secondly, that is not what culture vulture means at all. That would be if I am trying to pretend to be a part of another group's culture. Thirdly, you are a racist fuck and can go to hell. Anyone can enjoy hip hop.
its like they cured Bjork of all her sadness, gave her christmas, a soul mate and children.....then took them all away tragically to fuel her REAL artistic visions...
I think this album is pretty awful, not in its composition but in its production. If you get the chance, listen to the demo version of this song and you will understand what I mean. I prefer the Lo-fi Chelsea.
Sadly I agree. For me it's the vocal processing that needs changing, it adds unnecessary emphasis to sibilances yet swallows her words. This mix really does not do her voice any justice. I also liked the sense of space that the drums had in the demo better, although the drones are better managed in the non-demo. It would be really interesting to get the stems of this track and see what a better mix would sound like.
There's myself before Chelsea Wolfe, and myself after Chelsea Wolfe.
Thank you for exist in this world, Queen!

Agreed, it's just haunting & magic...
Agreed, it has something unique also because of the violin...& yes those splendid drums !

How many years have I been sleeping?
Nobody ever said I was alive
Why does everything feel so unnamed?
One of the many songs on the album that to me scream vampirism.
for me sounds like a experience with drugs.
Everything you touch turns to gold

I don't even have to hear the high-pitched point of the chorus. I know it's coming, and I get frisson.

Best song on the album
Indeed, the meaning of the album makes sense when I listen to this song. So deep, psychological and nostalgic.

So fucking awesome, love her
how the fuck do you count this? it's amazing by the way.
+Nuno Duarte pretty sure it's 6/8 or something similar
I know this is a year-late reply, but I think it's alternating 3/4, 4/4, 5/4
I'm working on the transposing the tune right now..
Having problems with the violin part.
