  • Eyal Levi takes you on a guided tour in Pro Tools of this epic session from Jason Richardson's solo album.
    It was originally produced and mixed by Taylor Larson and features Luke Holland on drums with guest appearances by Mark Holcomb of Periphery and Lukas Magyar of Veil of Maya (Eyal took too much cold medicine in the video and said Spencer).
    You'll see a lot of interesting stuff in this one such as THREE (!) guitar tones on each side, the trademark Taylor Larson drum sound, a very intricate performance by Luke Holland, and lots and lot of layers of synths and other post-production... lots of fun to be had with this one!

      It is okay! I was just thinking about all the sessions hes been involved with and what that all entails, hes a busy guy. No harm, no fowl, just want everyone to get credit for their performance. Lots of great vox on this track. Actually turned me onto Veil of Maya.

      I don't work with music so I won't pay the subscription fee just to get the tracks (which btw may come in a file format that I can't even listen to)... I'd like to just *listen* to the isolated tracks, for instance if you or someone else were to solo all vocal tracks, export them combined and upload somewhere.

    Honestly I always thought Taylor sampled the crap out of his drums, but this does sound super tight without samples. Really don't see why he would want to use samples if you have such good recordings, only thing it does is make the fast fills sound robotic, especially with a fast drummer like Luke

      Incredibly good performance + amazing drumkit (Properly tuning) + Properly mic placement + some pre-compressor on mics (Bc this takes doesn't sound 100% RAW).
      Don't forget an amazing room treatment, sounds huge AF.

      Well they're not raw they're printed with samples

    • @ashtonparsons4017

      Notice how Eyal never solos the snare by itself, luke is a consistant player but not robotic like you're hearing. Taylor makes samples, he's paid to make samples by the URM academy umbrella, taylor blends live with samples and that's the result.

    Does anyone know how many different takes those six guitar tracks are composed of? In other words, is that hex tracked or double tracked with each take run through three separate amps?

  • @6SpeedSpeed6
    @6SpeedSpeed6 6 років тому +1

    Would you guys consider doing a live episode on NTM all about tracking? It would be awesome to see how an engineer works with a band to get a great performance and how he mics everything for some really high quality multitracks.

    • @URMAcademy
      @URMAcademy  6 років тому

      It’s really hard to do that stuff live - for example, if you have to change heads and tune everything... not the most interesting thing to watch lol. But we are looking into options since a lot of people have asked about tracking!

    • @6SpeedSpeed6
      @6SpeedSpeed6 6 років тому

      URM Academy Yeah makes sense. I suppose doing that Live wouldn't be the best option... lol

      Creative Live has some pretty cool master classes that show the entire process short of setting up and mic placement. I watched the one with Jamie King and Tommy Rogers definitely would recommend.

      That's what I thought, too. Maybe Jason did some of the more difficult parts. In the documentary, you can see Jason tracking bass with Taylor in a few parts.
