Elias awkwardly trying to act like a normal boss in between doing horrific things to his employees is slowly becoming my favorite thing.
It's deliciously twisted. That's what makes this show so engaging
The British and their love of professionalism.
Melanie and Bassira gossiping about Martins very obvious crush on Jon is hilarious and precious
I first read this comment as "hilarious and precarious" and I agree with both versions

Yep. I totally ship it 😂

Hell yes, I wasn't sure for 106 episodes and OH BOY, THE RELIEF
i honestly was hoping john would be aroace
Not to dampen the mood, I don't quite understand why the character's relationships have a bigger priority for apparently so many people over the actual horror part of this horror podcast.
It's neat for representation and all that, but I feel like the horror has become somewhat of a triviality in favour of world building and character development. Two aspects which are normally fundamental for most kinds of fiction but are secondary for horror.
I love that John is confirmed as ace in a space episode
They knew what they were doing, and I absolutely love it!
So it’s a SpACE episode??

@@azulBjort_1406 I can't believe it's been 2 years since my TMA hyperfixation... Bad time in my life, but hey, great story. Was not able to listen to the last season, because I get too attached to characters.
@@cawareyoudoin7379 I started listening to TMA like about three weeks about but I finished it in two but since I hadn't really interacted with the fandom because of spoilers and that I'm to attached to move one I figured I would re-listen to it, plus it's a hole new experience once you understand all of the forshadowing from the earlier seasons and there's always something you missed on your first go....
So yeah you could say it's a bit of a hyperfixation , but it's nothing compared to what i had during my Supernatural craze a bit more than a year ago, I'd say it was a similar situation to what you mention, now i can't even think about the show without feeling massive wave of what i was feeling with back then. I've been sort of getting better. This is my first go at theses sort's of podcast and it's be wonderfully, and yes the final was absolutely gutt renching but I've loved ever minute of it, but feel like with TMA I'll be able to let go once I finish listening to it again, I'm like half way through it right now.

@@Hyena_Heckler Its a holdover from her filming. You clap at the start to ensure you have audio and video in sync.
Right? It's interesting to see how her, Martin, and Jon's styles of starting a recording all vary somewhat.
I love it >w< so cute!!!
In the other astronaut's statement, he goes out of his way to mention that he thought he was completely alone on the ship, right? The thing that answered the maintenance checks wasn't him, I'm sure of it.
omg you're right, he never mentioned anything about any contact with the rest of the crew once the door slammed shut. considering that this guy said the answers always sounded so distant maybe it was someone on earth aligned with this entity that the box connected to
at a guess, I'd say that the consortium that put the Daedalus together wanted his section to be completely cut off, so the intercom was actually connected to a radio back to ground control, or a recording or something, which would reply to their maintenance checks. The other guy mentioned in his statement that there was, at the least, a camera in his section of the station that was intentionally placed to be obvious but never plugged in. Probably they were fucking with all the astronauts.
Didn't he also mention that he saw an empty space suit out of his window at one point?
@@epsyblue7714 he did. He also said the Earth disappeared. So did the sun, the moon, and finally the stars. He also tried to open the door with the code at some point but it just said no one was coming.
no , he says There were two other people technically on the crew. I say technically as I never spent any time with them beyond the trip up to the Daedalus.
Wait so... John sometimes listens to the statements that his assistants record right? So does that mean he'll hear the gossip about Martin? :D

You have no idea what it means to me that, for the first time in my life, I'm seeing a horror-themed piece of media depict an ace character as an empathic and humane protagonist, a lovable protagonist, rather than the cautionary tale of a potential slasher or serial killer that snaps because they are "sexually repressed". I cannot describe the damage that growing up surrounded by media that taught me to fear my identity caused, as a fan of horror and suspense, but also as aroace, and it's very infrequent to find this problem included in conversations about lgbtq+ subjects and horror. Thank you so so so much.
He’s a fuckin human being and they treat him like such 🎶
He's a little stuffy and awkward, but very likeable, I really appreciate Jon as representation
I couldnt agree with you more. Until now i thought Tod from Bojack was the closest thing to representation we had...
@@steampunkmagpie777 Todd is great, but I had trouble embracing him as a rep until I found out other examples. He's a fantastic person in universe and all, but I don't want naivety and immaturity to be the only trait people associate with asexuality from his impact.
Other ace reps I really enjoy are Alastor of Hazbin hotel as he is incredibly likeable and fun, yet weaves asexuality nicely into his persona, and Florence from that one episode of Sex Education, because she's memorable and her asexuality is brought up very organically through her interest in theatre.
I know right? It so nice that they didn't go "he's not cold and uptight because he's ace, he's cold and uptight because he's a human disaster living through a nightmare", and it's so good

Agreed. Finding out that someone you loved had a GRUESOME death is probably one of the worst things ever...
I absolutely love the fact that Melanie still does the editing clap, despite the fact that it doesn’t do anything. I like to think it’s a ritual she uses, to keep the statement and the rest of her life separate by giving it a literal barrier
I don't know why but to me it kinda sounds like she's poping a marker cap off
Hmmm, put that way, maybe its similar to the breathing exercise Martin does?
I really want to know if she's thought it through enough to KNOW it doesn't do anything, or if she's running on All Instinct (Filmmaker's EditionTM) to get her through this nightmarish mess.

I like Elias :D He’s at least reasonable most of the time. Doesn’t retaliate unless pressed. The thing with Leitner was extremely stupid though.
@@coreacartoonist Agreed, he could have very easily explained away his killing of Gertrude as necessary to defend the institute, and while people still would have been hostile towards him he'd at least be able to make a strong case to those like Jon and Martin that such hostility was irrational. However, killing Lietner made that impossible and exacerbated the hostility they would have already had tremendously. Now he is just another monster, not a human which they may begin to sympathize with over time
Kel BenV02 Honestly, I don’t think we know enough of Elias’s history with Leitner to really make a judgement.
AAAAA WAIT MARTIN'S CRUSH IS ACTUALLY CANON??? THATS ADORABLE JSJFHNFNN

Elias: This is why Jon is the archivist and not you-
Meanwhile, Jon talking to Jude Perry: “Just kill me! Why don’t you, if you’re not going to tell me anything useful…” :mopes:
He made Melanie cry the bastard.
You mean the person actively trying to murder him on multiple occasions, even after being VERY politely asked to stop doing that? You know, something that in most civilized places would entitle you to self-defense up to and including killing your assailant? And all he did was reveal something that Jon had already covered as a statement, meaning she'd likely end up finding that out anyways.
@@tirnos739 i love how everyone is like "oh its okay, because shes trying to kill him" - he is literally holding her hostage tho. For no apparent reason. And youre mad at HER for wanting out by any means necessary? I am seriously questioning anyone who still has sympathy or respect for Elias.
@@americantoastman7296 She literally signed up for this, though. She was warned several times and still agreed to play with forces beyond her comprehension because of her own petty pride and nothing else. Just because she interpreted the implication she couldn't handle dealing with the archive as a personal insult.
Elias is a bastard and nobody really deserves that kind of trauma, but my sympathy for her is minimal.
No she didn’t? She was offered a job when she had just been shot, had no money and no one to turn to. Be for real right now martins stutters wouldn’t convince anyone not to sign in that situation. Also, by that logic, I hope you feel similarly about Tim cause, even though John recommended him for the job he is the one that willingly started working for the institute… I don’t want to say that a large part of the tma fan base is misogynistic but you guys make it really hard.
@@peristeris4749Well said. My only fault with Melanie in this particular instance is that she risks ending her the lives of her colleagues as well as hers by killing Elias, so there might be a germ of truth in his accusation that she’s being “selfish.” But even then, Elias deliberately trapped her in this situation for his own selfish agenda, knowing full well that she might react this way, so hating on Melanie seems highly misguided.
As to the misogyny thing, that’s a bit harder to quantify. I mean, I have noticed a bit of a double standard when it comes to Tim lashing out and Melanie lashing out. I had mostly attributed it to the fact that Tim seemed a happy-go-lucky character when we first met him, so people get that we’re seeing him at a low point. Melanie, on the other hand, started out being abrasive and confrontational with our main character, and the first impression sticks and makes people less sympathetic to her, even as her character develops. It probably doesn’t help that even when she’s being friendly, she still can’t stop taking jabs at people.
But are people more forgiving of Tim because it’s more “acceptable” in society for men to be loudly angry and aggressive than it is for women? That’s a distinct possibility, and it would be naive to rule that out, even if we’re talking about a fandom one would hope was above that kind of thing.

Still you are trapped in the perpetual dilemma of "I want to see it" vs "please don't tell me more then necessary about this" (at least for me).

I adore Elias as a villain. And I also long for us to witness Daisy or Melanie decking him with a folding chair. 😊
He's like the opposite of "Thanks! I hate it!" he's more like "Horrifying! More please!"
@@SI-nx3fo I fail to see him as a villain in this case. 1) He was confronting someone who literally planned and attempted to carry out his murder on multiple occasions. 2) He has attempted on at least 2 occasions to have rational, peaceful conversations to get her to stop trying to murder him. 3) Instead of resorting to violence or even killing her in self-defense, he just revealed something to her that she'd likely learn anyways, since Jon has already covered what happened at that nursing home in a previous statement.
Maybe a bit brutal emotionally, but frankly it's quite a bit less violent and painful than most of us would react to someone trying to murder us on multiple occasions. He's a dick to be sure, but seeing as his objective seems to be just to maintain the status quo of the world and he only acts against people who actively try to do him or the Institute harm... certainly not a villain. Okay, so obviously we're all excited about pining!Martin and Ace!Jon, but I am so excited every tie I stumble across an exes-to-friends/exes-to-roommates dynamic
okay i really like Melanie reading the statements :D
We be poppin the biggest bottles when elias finally bites it.
Aw hell yeah, finally my people.
During the statement when the stars were being blocked, did anybody think of the Leitner book? With the giant?
Ah yes Ex Altiora! Thank you for reminding me of the plot of it, I had forgotten. And yes, it is connected the entity that's appearing here. At least that's what the wiki says (careful, the wiki can spoil things if you're not careful) the-magnus-archives.fandom.com/wiki/Ex_Altiora
Jude Perry basically confirmed the book's connection with all this big void stuff. When Jon asked about Michael Crew, she said he hung out with Simon Fairchild a lot.
Yeah! And also the massive being the one guy saw while scuba diving for that old guys grandfathers ship
Oh melanie :(
I loved the first spaceship episode. Glad to see it got a comeback!
"Manuela became more focused on her work."
You could say she was... Laser focused? 😁
:( Damn Elias really pulled a Mangekyo Sharingan.
I want to know if Melanie claps her hands or hits the table or actually brought a clapboard or what to make that sound.
I really liked the martin gossip in this episode it was adorable like "he thought i was gonna take his precious archivist away" it made me smile. On top of that we got some ace rep. Also SCREW YOU ELIAS!! Your an amazing villain/antagonist/(whatever-the-hell-you-are) BUT COME ON. Now im sad 😢
If I ever see Elias it's gonna be on sight istg
Bro same
Lmao same. He'll probably put some weird thoughts and images into our head but itll be worth it.
I fell asleep once with autoplay on and woke up mid mental torture scene with no context at full volume , it was good incentive to keep listening
I love Elias so much and I also can’t wait for someone to pull one over on his smarmy all knowing self important ass
The perfect villain combo
Everyone: Jon is ace biromantic
Me: Wow I really do adore the Vast and this is some top-notch classic Lovecraftian horror. Also, Elias is terrifyingly awesome. I'd never want to go up against him.
"Tell you what, why don't you take the rest of the day off. Anyway, aside from /all of that/, I'd say your performance has been satisfactory." Holy Fuck. Elias is so good. He's so bad, but so good.
The worst part is that, suppose Elias actually meant well, Melonie wouldn't believe him no matter what. In his position I'd have done SOMETHING to shut her up too. Though, the ability to implant information and understanding to someone is also something I'd absolutely kill for.
Agreed. Like someone else in the comments mentioned, Melanie might very well look at John's recording of the Ivy Meadows statement (Taken ill) and then she'd find some horrifying mental images implanted into her brain anyway!! I liked her to begin with and I still kind of do, but she's obsessed with thinking that she ultimately knows more/better than everyone else in the Archives team and completely fails to take them seriously. Like - they're not the "credulous idiots" you accused them of being in S1, you've NEEDED them for HELP which they GAVE YOU (Jon) and now you're still being a jerk???? omg there's more to the paranormal than ghosts Melanie stop thinking you're the big expert.
"I don't want to say he vanished into thin air" Oh ho ho. No Melanie, that's not where he vanished.
Vanished into thick dirt
Enjoy Air Thin.
The final scene was so intense! I was literally shaking,,, bravo
What a good depiction of the horrific experience that is the performance review
do not be mean to her elias nooo
