- This is my entry into the Modern Maker Podcast Rockler Plywood Challenge. In this video I build a patterned storage chest using the end grain from one sheet of euro-birch plywood. This project was a blast, and I'm excited to try other patterns in the future. Thanks to the Modern Maker Podcast for putting on this challenge, and thank you for watching. "I don't think this is the last time I'm going to try this technique..." - foreshadowing much?
Beautiful work. The beginning of an era really :0)
Probably the best outcome I've seen for this challenge. Beautiful piece of work
Beautiful. Even more amazing when you think this was done on a portable table saw. Very nice.
Wow this is a stunning piece! Amazing work Michael. Instant sub 👍🏼
Thank you!!
Stunning work. Good luck.
Thank you!!
Man, that top shimmers when you open and close it! Nicely done!
Thanks Shaun!
Hands down the most incredible modern style pattern making I have witnessed. Thank you for sharing your talent. I’m beyond inspired.
Thanks Gary!
Came out amazing!
Thanks Mike!!
Outstanding work man! Love the way you pulled off that pattern, totally going to do something similar in the future.
Thanks Johnny! It's a really fun technique. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!
Wow mate that pattern is awesome very geometric looking ,it's a mighty nice piece and you should be proud of it.
Cheers

This is so gorgeous. I'm in awe. Well done
Love the antique take on a modern wood. The herringbone pattern was used to much in france on hardwood flooring in the 18th and 19th century, that this jewelry box almost feels like an hommage to it.
This is awesome! I love the patterns throughout
Right on! Thank you!
Great, now I'm gonna have to.tey ro make something with patterned plywood, thanks for opening pandora's box! Nice job that's an amazing piece of work!
Wow. Love the video as always. I appreciate the different patterns that you glued up in the plywood. Maximum effort.
blown away with the pattern magic, thank you!
Wow! This is amazing! Thanks for sharing.
You're not just a first class woodworker, you're an artist. This was seriously inspiring.
Thanks Greg!
Awesome have not seen such beautiful hand made stuff
Fantastic Job!
I love that not just the exterior looks amazing, but every single part, even the ones that will be (as good as) invisible in the end.
Thanks!
Art piece through plywood! Wouv, I really love it. Congratulations.
When I watched this, there were 97 entries into the challenge. I've seen them all, and yours was a winner for me :D great job, mate!
That patern is so beutiful and if you didn't know it started as ply wood, I think it would be a surprise to find out. I know when I saw the thumb nail I thought it would be a really small intricately made box!! Love it!!
This looks so good! the whole time watching this, I was saying to myself 'that's gonna be heavy'. I guess that is a trade-off for it to be both functional and beautiful.
What a cracking project mate, it’s a really well thought out design. Love it.
Love that patterning!! Fantastic build!
I created my first piece of plywood pattern furniture this week. Thanks for an awesome page.
That design is 🔥🔥🔥. Well done!
Probably the coolest thing I've seen come out of a sheet of plywood. Great job!
I wanted to build a tool box like that, it was that basic shape. But you my friend took it to another level. Nice!
I do love a good herringbone. Looks fantastic!
I like the plywood look a lot you have taken the wood working to another level, thanks for the video
Wow, I normally dislike plywood projects but this is gorgeous! Well done.
Got to admit this is hands down one of my favorite projects. I love the plywood edges and the patterns you made.
Thanks so much!
Nice work. Love the Merc as well.
A very beautiful piece of work! You did good!
nice work definitely meets the brief and displays the beauty of the plywood
Love how it turned out! Great job!
This was awesome on so many levels. I would love a chest like that; you've created something really beautiful and original.
Thanks Nicholas!
Immaculate creation. What a great creative thought and skill to create in real. Thanks for sharing
That's... preposterous. I love it.
Hahaha! Thanks
Very cool... I dig it. Thanks for sharing.
This is the most interesting piece from the challenge I have seen so far. Excellent build.
You really got patience. What a beautiful piece of furniture you've made there I like it very much.
Love your creativity with limited material supplies. Well done mate and thanks for sharing
WOW! it's genuinely beautiful. Great work.
This looks great! You did an awesome job with the layout of the pieces
Nice, love the sash clamps to.
This is ridiculous! Incredible work. Top 3 right here.
This looks great man, love the patterns.
Great design, really clean, and very unique look.
My 7th grade shop teacher would've yelled at you for those loose sleeves!! Thanks for creating.
Awesome, I really like it. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful piece of art!
Man that pattern looks amazing. Awesome job man.
Thank you!
This box is just beautiful! I'm thinking of making some wine boxes like this. Thank you for the video!
Right on! Thank you! Good luck with your project
Bonkers attention to detail! 👏
WOW. Looks so much cooler than I expected.
I'm tempted to make some 7" record bins like this. Would help get rid of some misc. plywood stock I have lying around as well.
Thanks Walter! Go for it! Definitely a good use from scrap, especially if you already have a bunch of long strips around that you can't bring yourself to throw away.
OMG!! What an absolutely gorgeous piece of work. I love how you made the pattern come alive. At the end, when you lift the top, the pattern almost looks 3d. You are obviously blessed with skills, a eye for precision and a boatload of patience. Keep it up!!
Thanks Ramon!
Really creative and love the herringbone pattern.
That's a lot of cuts. You sure gave the saw a workout on this one. :)
Incredible and creative work, i love the way you used the plywood to create the marquetry design. well done!
Wow! Looks like you have the black belt in plywood woodworking. Nice one. 😊🎈
Nice job! Thanks for sharing
i love this piece so much. it came out so beautiful. and functional!
Thanks Jessie!!
I gotta tell ya. I watched this a few days ago. Maybe more. And it has stuck in my mind. You have created a fantastic piece of art. Truly amazing.
Thanks so much!
That looks amazing! Great job.
Winner! So creative and tasteful!
Absolutely beautiful!! True Craftsman ship!!! I hope I can get that good some day.
Daaang man. Solid work. I think this is my fav project of this challenge. Thank you!
Awesome, thanks!
One of the few projects that has taken my breath away.
Wow! Thank you!!
Omg. That is gorgeous.
Man this so so awesome looking! I wish I had one!!!
This is gorgeous!
Love this box! I would add one thing, a leather strap from the inside of the top to the inside of the top tray. That way the top won't overextend the hinge. Really awesome project though. I am playing with the designs in my head right now!
Thank you! Yeah, I looked for some hardware to hold the lid open, but couldn't find anything I liked locally. Leather is a good idea.
How about doing a braided leather! Would go with the pattern and add some give rather than a stiff stop.
Haha 'love this box.' Me too.
So sleek and stylish. Very impressed
Beautiful, well designed and executed.
Awesome project, the end grain pattern is amazing! I also really like your use of both expensive and common tools: Festool track saw with a Home Depot framing square 👌
Whatever works! Thank you!
This is SO good. Amazing how clean it all came out! Excellent work man, very creative
I love that you did it all with a portable contractor saw!
Good idea. Like!
Exquisite. Fine handcrafted woodwork. Good on you.
The coolest thing I've ever seen made out of plywood!
Thank you!!
Damn! This looks so cool and unique... Good work, thumbs up!!!
Really nice work. I was skeptical at first but it turned out great.
This is awesome! I would have never thought to use plywood like this. I can't wait to see the patterns you come up with in the future
Thanks! I'm excited to test out some other designs
Wow, great entry for the challenge. I’ve always liked the way plywood end grain looks, but I didn’t think about that level of complexity. I’ll have to incorporate something like this in a future design. It’s beautiful, I want one.
Thanks! Yeah, give it a shot. It's basically the same as making an end grain cutting board.
This is a wonderful project bro ! Many congrats.... I’m truly impressed
It looks like a piece of art, very nice
Wow! Nice, and that one requires patience.
Very nice work! A LOT OF WORK!
Beautifull ! Congratulations !!!
Wow that was great!
I have no idea as to how I never seen your channel before today (6-12-19) but it only took me about 3 seconds to like & subscribe. The level of skill, the amount of time and work that went into this project, is just amazing. I was stunned when you said that this chest was made out of a full sheet of plywood, I honestly thought there was more than that used. This a true work of art.
That is fantastic you sir are a genius and a proper car in the background to boot.
watching this for the third time - really satisfying build. You really edit this well, and make the process (seem) achievable. One day hope to build something using your techniques here, but need to finish other projects first. Thanks Michael
Keepsake of a lifetime. Can't get over how deeply in love with this I am.. jusr still in shock
Another great build, thanks for sharing
Is there a set of plans for this project? If not how about providing some dimensions to give us a clue as to a starting point for this build! Thanks in advance for your consideration
Currently working on something based on your patterning thank you for the inspiration
Excellent work! You gave me a ton of ideas.
