    Oil is coming from the air filter from blow back. These engines are notorious for this.

    That propane oil can also make the inner liner of the hoses swell and choke off the propane vapor. Check the low pressure hose to the carburetor occasionally.That kicked my butt about 25 years ago when I was a forklift mechanic. I have the same blue DuroMax dual fuel 10K unit and I love it.

    I ordered a DuraMax 15000 and just gotten it oiled up. My house is fully electric and I wanted to be able to run mostly everything with my 50 amp grid plug in. I think I will be alright with this one. I also rigged up a butane wall heater hanging unit for emergency back-up heating. There’s a smaller 4,000 predator generator on the back porch for my two deep freezers and spare refrigerator. It struggled to run all three of them without tripping the breaker. I’m thinking of upgrading that switch to around 20 amps to help it generate more electricity.

    • @TheSHOP411
      @TheSHOP411  Рік тому +1

      With two generators, one 13Kw and one 10Kw, I run everything easily. I had a yanmar 5kw, and it ran 2 freezers, a refrigerator, and a remote 10000btu ac. The problem with the smaller generators is that if too many of the appliances start their compressor at the same time, it can really bogg the generator down. Usually, people have been a while without electricity, start a generator, and plug everything in at once. The freezers and refrigerators all turn on the compressors and that's where the problem occurs. If you plug one in, let it get to temp, then another, it is unlikely they will all run their compressors at the same time. Even then, it's the starting watts that really add up. The running watts should be much less. You probably know this though.

    I have the durastar ds12000eh I run ethanol free gasoline only. It does run fine on propane and I do have a few 20lb propane tanks. But another very important tip is to shut the gas line off and let it burn out the gas in the carburetor. I keep it full of ethanol free gas for 5 plus years. Regular 10% ethanol gas destroys carburetors. And this is why the manufacturer suggest draining the tank but if you run ethanol free gas this is not an issue. I am in Florida and I keep 75 gallons of ethanol free gasoline in storage at all times.

    • @TheSHOP411
      @TheSHOP411  2 роки тому +2

      That is exactly what I do. I keep a little more on standby, but I have a lot of equipment that needs non ethanol. I'm actually in the process of switching out some old stock before gas goes up much more. I have a 200hp Yamaha outboard and if you put ethanol gas in it, it will bitch and moan till it gets cleared out. I'm all about non ethanol gas. We keep several 150 gallon propane tanks full in addition to 10 twenty pound tanks. If you live in a hurricane zone, you know how fast fuel can get used up.

Now, if you watch the Amazon prime sales, you can still get the 13kw under 1000 bucks. Between my parents, my sister, and my family, we have 8 generators. Five are 10kw or better. The good thing is, if we ever had to fall back to our off grid place, we can easily bring the generators with us. That's one of the things I like most about these. They are portable.

Those stand alone generators are very nice, but in order to keep the warranty, you must sign up for a maintenance plan or show that you did the maintenance. Also, I have seen them fail a time or two and it's usually at a time then a maintenance crew cannot assist, like during a hurricane. @@MrMnmn911 heat strips are going to pull way more amps because 9f the resistance involved. I may be that the amps are just to much for the generator. I am going to install a 50 amp receptacle because mine would not push just 1 heat strip on my house. I'm going to install the 50 amp receptacle on Feb 14th. I don't get much time off so this is going to be my first opportunity to get it done. I will post to let y'all know if running it with the 50 amp receptacle and 8 gauge wire makes a difference. Now, I have a backup plan. I bought several 750/1500 Watt space heaters for around 35 bucks on Amazon. You can run a quite a few of these and they will heat your rooms pretty well. You could run 4 or 5 and still have power to spare for refrigerators and freezers and lights. Now, I have a 10kw and a 13kw so I can really go all out, but if you have a 10kw or better, just get some space heaters. You'll still be way ahead of most everyone else out there.

And the break in is very important to the power producing. Break them in under a small load and gradually increase the load , change the oil and repeat. Then change the oil every 20 hours. You might want to check out butanol. apperently you can run it in gas engines. i was looking at fuels and it popped it up google. some website chemcentral has it for 195 for 55 gal drum. It can be stored for a long time unlike gasoline. it's made from corn like ethanol but has properties more similar to gas. Also, might want to check out a station that has pure gasoline. I didn't have that problem bc the 10k doesn't have that switch. I filled 5 tanks at the local feed and seed and they had that oil in them that fouled up my regulator and before I realized I had a problem with that batch of propane, I had give my dad some of the tanks and it shut both of us down. We were able to figure how to to a bypass with gasoline on his and he got back up and running, and I was able to clear out the oil and run on just gasoline as well. I remember it had something to do with where it was built that they gave it one name or the other. My dad had a Duromax that was replaced with a Durostar under warranty. When he asked about the different name, he was told the Durostar was all that was available and it's the same generator. I have no ties to the company. Just giving you the info I have.

    I don`t believe the propane OR the propane regulator is the problem. Check the engines valve cover for leaks on the engine just up above your propane regulator. These valve covers leak often on these chinese engines. They will drip oil down onto the propane regulator and give you a false diagnosis if you don`t know what your looking for. They begin to leak when the generator gets hotter. The valve cover and the gasket are poorly designed, that`s why they leak, or seep as the engine gets hotter. Once the engine cools off, the leak closes up. When it gets hot, the leak opens back up. As for your propane being an issue, you likely bought a bad batch from your supplier. I would buy it somewhere else.

      I always run the gas out of the carb for storage over a day. I use Pri-G as an additive. It is by far the best I have found. It will actually bring old gas back to life. In the future, I will have a 84 gallon propane tank for the generators along with gasoline. Gas is much more efficient for the price if it is available. I have backups to the backups. I also stockpile fuel at another location that is in a very remote area.

      I do appreciate your input and it is spot on correct. A lot of people I know buy generators and run them for a hurricane and when it's done, they put them up as is and don't think about them till the next storm. Then it's too late.

      The oil came from the propane tanks. It was a bad batch from the feed and seed store. I can still use it for running my boiler but the tanks will have to be traded out. I went through the generator and I have rebuilt small engines all my life and I can say for 100%, the valves are not the problem. Rebuilding small engines is a hobby and I do know what I am doing. I can say, it took me a long time to get to the point of finding out it was the batch of propane. After doing some research, RV'ers deal with oil in propane quite often. There are treads all over about it. I only ran into the problem right after using the propane. After I stopped using the propane, I ran the genny for 4 days straight with no problem on gasoline. I did read that the problem is almost non existent once you go to a 40# tank or bigger.

    Don't buy one. They don't run on propane

      Mine are still purring along on gas and propane. I did have some issues but once resolved, they are pretty good. Oh, the battery on the new one failed after a year so I manually start it. That kinda was a bummer.

      I talked to Duramax today. They said it won't run on anything smaller than a 40lb tank. I don't understand that. But

      @@ThunderChicken1 that's not true. We ran three different generators on the small tanks for two weeks.
