  • In 2017, Jenny Lewis was going through some painful and disruptive changes in her life. Her mother had died of cancer and she had also just ended a 12-year relationship with musician Jonathan Rice. That's when she sat down to write her new record, On the Line. She joined host Tom Power in the q studio to open up about how that challenging time in her life led her to create her most personal collection of songs in her career. cbc.ca/1.5189430

"A better son/daughter" is the song that has hit me the hardest in 18+ years of listening to music. Thank you Jenny!

Watching this after midnight brought tears to my eyes a few times. Great interview! Surreal to feel like I’ve grown up and taken a journey with Jenny Lewis over the last two decades, and here we are.

ameliorative seeing Jenny in this new era where she has been so honest about her life and living her truth, seriously makes me emotional. I love her and saw her in concert a couple months ago and it was beautiful. I’ve always seen her as being so strong and unshakable but there’s this real vulnerability now knowing that her songs have been about her life, not behind the guise of a third person narrator

@@cameronwalsh4439 Hey, you made me get out the ol' dictionary. That first word. Good word to remember. I'm fairly new to Jenny. About a month. She's currently hitting me like a ton of bricks. She can sure weave a spell.

I have some tears too while listening. Growing up in Southern California, I get much of Jenny’s interpretation the music tribe. And the “narcoleptic poet from Duluth” caught my ear the first time hearing “Heads will Roll.” Ringo has good taste. 😊🎶✌️

Jenny writes things that have hit me just when I needed to hear them. She’s connected to source. There is a little bit of Magic. Everybody has it. ❤

I love that was charmed by Tom coming on board at the Rabbit Fur Coat stage. I've always wondered what sort of nut she'd think I was if I told her that I found her music after seeing that Inge from my _favorite_ childhood movie had a fashion spread in the new magazine _Elle girl,_ and apparently she and Joey "the Rat" Epstein had a band together, which meant I _had_ to listen to it.
"A Better Son/Daughter" and "Does He Love You?" helped me grieve my way out of some very difficult years.

Technically our mind is made up of the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Have you heard of the iceberg metaphor? Our consciousness is the tip of the iceberg we can see, just under the surface is our preconscious, and deep in the water who knows how large the iceberg is represents the unconscious mind.
