That was a tricky approach. Solid low overcast just above minimums. You can see how disorientating it is to go from bright clear visual conditions, into solid IMC, then breakout just above minimums, orientate your surroundings, pick up the runway cues and land visually within a short space of time. No wonder they brief the missed approach so thoroughly. Great flying, great video, one of the best I've seen on this channel. Thanks for uploading.
I am not a pilot but those guys are so professional and their explanation of what is happening is great. I am a Canadian and I am always happy to see how our Canadian flyers are keeping us safe. I watch a lot of cockpit videos and the Canadian ATC and pilots are much clear in their communications compare many others.
Flew from Toronto to Seattle on the E-190....it was almost (if not over) a 4 hour flight. The range of the E-190 is 4500km roughly....the distance by flight from Toronto to Kelowna is roughly 3000km direct......plenty of headroom for a diversion, etc.
Even at these remote remote airports the Captain always takes taxi control. Rarely ya ever see a FO allowed to taxi the plane. What a right or passage it must be to finally do that lol.
Doug Hanchard yea but not true is the larger Boeing’s and airbuses. Typically they do have on both sides. I know it exists the option tho to save money and weight and have removed from the FO side
Going above or below the G/S is pretty normal if initial ATC descent was late. Being within 1 degree is legal. Once you breakout, adherence to the G/S is no longer required. Both pilots must callout "field in sight" and at minimums, callout "Continue / check". Most mountainous DME ILS approaches are pretty steep. It's easy to start high and quickly go below the G/S. Kelowna is actually pretty good. Smithers is tighter with mountains to the west looking near. Have a nice flight!
Setting up a whole bunch of preparation, and then tossing it out at a moments notice with barely a shrug when the situation changes. That’s why pilots get the big money.
YLW is the airport closest to my hometown. So thanks for taking me home. :-) As a passenger, I've experienced two missed approaches in YLW with CP years ago. This actually looks like one of the most challenging approaches of any video I've seen- at least when there's significant weather involved. I'd love to see a video of the approach into Castlegar - YCG. The mountains are even closer to the airport than they are at YLW.
revelutionary media I’m from Kelowna too. I haven’t experienced a cancelled landing yet. But it’s an exciting descent! A landing at Castlegar would be great to see. It’s nickname is “Cancelgar”.
Well...this was an ILS approach so they basically let the computer fly it down to just above minimums until they were sure they could see the runway...then took over. At around 18:45 they got the minimums warning (normally around 200ft above the runway)...one or two seconds after that he disengages the autopilot and manually lands the plane. While the weather makes this approach difficult, if you have an ILS approach it normally means that you can safely bring the plane in on instruments, they will only execute a missed approach if they still can't see the runway at minimum decision altitude (minimums) or the plane isn't stabilized on approach due to wind. Having said that, ILS is a must for this sort of weather.

Very professional CRM.
Great video, absolutely love it. Pilots did a great job preparing for this situation
I live in Kelowna, and that view is why going skiing on foggy days can be great, since the higher altitudes are clear.
Right, I live in Vernon and when I used to ski those were the awesome days
Always love when I see a video uploaded from my area, great video!
I don’t know if it’s just because I’m Canadian but I think the AC flights are the best just planes content. Even if it’s just regional/domestic hops.
Very nice video and great landing 👍👍.
yes yes this area is so sweet...gorgeous views..
Klowna, BC. and surrounding area - it is one of my favorite holiday locations!
Very nice landing, communication skills outstanding.👍
Great Video, @ 1340 is a perfect view of Silver Star Mountain Ski Resort's south facing Summit area where our home is!

Nicely done fellas!
🤔 figured AC had tablets on all their aircraft....great vid as always!!!!
Nicely Done!
Why did they set up for missed approach ?
Nice one captain.....
cross country in an E190 - pushing the range?
that's the aircanada motto xD

Aqui eu me sinto em um cockpit.
🤩

It's not really a privilege so much as that most nose wheel steering tiller controls are on the Captain's side on the flight deck.

Pilot flying went below glideslope and never corrected even after being told by the captain. Thoughts on this ?
I noticed that too, also want to know that
but hes visual and can see the runway despite the G/S

Set up the arrival, rnav, etc. "Ftjx turn heading 260 for traffic spacing" ......but..... I had straight in 18...… Vectored outside city limits lol

Not sure I understand. Could you please explain or send me an email at info@justplanes.com. Happy to try to help
weekly Premiere WOW
Thumbs up? Roger that.
Nice
Scare Canada will turn around when West-jet lands, same day, same airport, WTF?
Someone too cheap to give them an EFB or is this video really old?
Darren Grosvenor very old. AC has EFB for all crew
That radar looked angry on landing !
It's in terrain mode and shows the surrounding mountains.
What’s the reasoning for flying the hold at density altitude rather than press alt?
DOH!
@@roneagle8038 what's DOH? I'm not instrument rated.

Wow these guys still use paper charts?! That’s like, from the Stone Age 😅
EFB's haven't been in use in the airline industry all that long.
Daniel Fleischmann it was a sarcastic/joking comment. At least in the US we’ve had them for close to 5 years.
This video is from 2010-2011 I believe
OK vide.... Just Planes was OK a few years ago... your competition has better videos now I'm afraid....
