Do you have any other advice for getting that oil pump drive gear off? I've tried pb blaster and tapping it a bit, but no luck. If you have any ideas about how Porsche might have done it I would apreciate another prespective. Sureley they had a special toool or something.

Have you tried a 3 jaw puller? What about clamping vise grips down really hard and trying to hammer it loose?

@@TheMileHighMechanic If you know of a puller that can get purchase on the sleeve without removing the oil pump that would be awesome! Just after I wrote that comment I tried a brand new pair of vice grips, channel locks, and even made some attempts with an air hammer heated lightly with a torch, but still no movement.
Tomorrow I'm going to try freeze spray, and if that doesn't work I'm going to attempt to cut a groove then crack the thing in half. At this point even if the tool I need costs $200 it'll be cheaper than dropping the pan and pulling/servicing the oil pump and main bearings as "while I'm in there" items I expect will make fixing this engine no longer financially in the green.
At this point if I can't get this sleeve gear off I might as well just pull the whole engine and do a 1.8T swap. But I'd really prefer to get the stock engine running first.

@@finnsuchara1992 sounds like it is stuck/corroded to the oil pump splines...I would recommend making a "penetrant dam" around the sleeve out of some tubing (maybe 1.5") and then load it up with penetration fluid using the tubing to contain all of the fluid. Essentially letting it soak for a couple days...that should make it easy to come off... patience is key with penetration fluid.

@@TheMileHighMechanic Good idea, I'll give it a try. I heard about someone doing that on a rennlist thread and figured it sounded unlikely to work better than Terry the torch but it definitely won't hurt.

@@finnsuchara1992 I wouldn't underestimate the power of a penetrant bath🤷I wish you luck.

Thanks for the vid! Quick question, did you set the engine to TDC before removing the belts? I'm sure you did =)

Yes, I did this while I was doing the head gasket replacement, so all engine components were at TDC. I'm glad you liked the video!
