I loved Dr. Daniel Dennett, very sad to hear about his passing, I've would have loved to meet him, he was my absolute favorite, an intellectual giant, a legend, true sage, heard he was also very kind gentle person, huge loss to civilization, I will watch tons of his lectures in the next few days in his memory 1:30:27

RIP Like a lot of materialists he thought matter was fundamental to life. That the elemental created consciousness. Consciousness is fundamental (it is the hard problem for philosophy). Mind is elemental; emerging with quantum events. The physical is just the gross elements macro and micro.
We live in three dimensions not just one. Materialists reduced everything to the physical dimension to matter and give extraordinary powers to matter, to the elemental.
As we approach a quantum age from an atomic age we will find that this perspective is flawed and will know better.

A hidden gem of a video. Prof. Dennett is doing an important work of demystification our understanding the human evolutions and mind. Thank you for uploading.

Dennett's use of the word "design" when talking about evolution has always irritated me. The word does imply a designer and an intent, in the minds of most people, so when they hear of evolution "designing" something, they immediately think of a designer. Look at all of the Christians who accept "guided evolution", which is not evolution at all. Dawkins is right in this case. Use a different word that is not so bias-laden.

The whole point is to use that word and he goes into extensive detail why he uses it.

What a stupid and vacuous objection.
