I'll never forget the morning when our air ambulance flew incredibly low from RAF WADDINGTON in fog and I mean dense fog to the red arrow pilot whose ejector seat malfunctioned on the ground at RAF SCAMPTON and ejected him approximately 200ft into the air and the parachute never opened ( you know the rest of this tragedy),how the air ambulance pilot not only flew to the stricken pilot and paramedics gave everything and more on the ground and in the air enroute to LINCOLN COUNTY HOSPITAL about 2 minutes flying time to the then H1 LANDING PAD about 25ft from the A&E DEPARTMENT AND ALL OF THE STAFF WERE WAITING FOR ITS ARRIVAL outside the landing pad perimeter fence/ to receive the pilot and give immediate rescuscitation and the rotor blades still turning on the aircraft, how the air ambulance pilot not only flew to RAF SCAMPTON and touched down and took off and landed in the dense fog at H1 is testament to the astonishing skills and experience of the pilot ,when it flew over both times over my house all I was a searchlight piercing the fog and barely recognised the helicopter .....the only clue was the sound of its engines and bright yellow livery.Later that day the tragedy made the news headlines and you could sense the loss immediately, they gave every life saving intervention you could possibly fathom but tragically that fateful day it wasn't meant to be.

yes I agree talking to the pilots they get words from there boss if they dont do it right its about being able to land back where they took off from in case of engine failure

I love it too 🤣. Yes it took me forever to find out why they do it, but it’s so they can see the landing pad in case of an issue or emergency during takeoff, since that’s a very common time for there to be an issue
