@@BonyFingers1969 It is a masterpiece " special" movie...Stephen King said it....and If Michael Jordan said his toughest opponent was Capt America you listen
During the end credits shots of a deserted, empty, central London flash on screen. All of these shots were completed during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The desertedness of the streets is real as England at the time was in a national lockdown. Final performance of Diana Rigg, who passed away on September 10, 2020. The film is dedicated in her memory. Thomasin McKenzie dropped out of Top Gun: Maverick (2022) to star in this movie. To achieve the shots of the students walking down the night-time Soho streets, the crew hid a Steadicam within a Bicycle Rickshaw taxi, commonly seen around the Soho area. The road was not closed off and the 'Extras' in the shot were unaware they were in a movie. The title comes from a song by pop band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, "Last Night In Soho" released in 1968. This is the song that is played during the end credits. This movie was inspired by Don't Look Now (1973) and Repulsion (1965). The drink ordered by Sandie early on in the film is a vesper created by Ian Fleming in the 1953 James Bond novel Casino Royale. Author Stephen King had the opportunity to see this movie at an advanced screening, and he was so impressed by what he saw, he tweeted "I hardly ever re-watch - there's so many good things out there - but this one is special." Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, Rita Tushingham and Margaret Nolan were all big names in British film, TV and theatre in the 1960s, when a great deal of the story in this movie takes place. The first Edgar Wright film to have a female protagonist. This is one of two Anya Taylor-Joy films delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the other movie was The New Mutants (2020). Both Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy have previously worked with director M. Night Shyamalan; the former in Old (2021) and the latter in both Split (2016) and Glass (2019). Foreshadowing: When looking for Sandy's missing persons case in the library, Eloise is passing by lots of missing persons cases regarding men. These men are later found out to be Sandie's victims. At the Halloween party Ellie and John attend, Ellie's former roommate Jocasta and her girl friends are dressed as the main characters in the 1996 witch movie The Craft (1996). Fittingly, Jocasta is dressed as Nancy, the film's villain. Foreshadowing: The landlady, later found out to be a serial killer states to Eloise, regarding the bathroom, that she will need to keep the plugs in during summer as the smells will rise, refering to the drains. This is more likely refering to the countless bodies of men hidden within the walls and floorboards. This is one of two Matt Smith films delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the other movie was Morbius (2022). Stars Matt Smith and Diana Rigg both appeared alongside each other in a 2013 episode of Doctor Who. Edgar Wright mentioned in an Instagram comment that the Director of Photography Chung-hoon Chung also shot The Handmaiden (2016) for Korean director Park Chan-Wook. According to Edgar Wright, after George Miller saw an early cut of the film, he was so impressed by Anya Taylor-Joy's performance that he met her immediately. He then offered her the leading role for his next film, Furiosa (2024).
It's funny how most of the scenes have an upbeat and happy music but the visuals were brutal and chaotic. This is a well written film. I'll recommend it. 8/10 for me.
So story lines these day are unnecessary as long as the visuals are amazing? Am I missing here something? Could have been a good film without the constant repetitive visuals. (Trying not to give spoilers away) but then again I might actually be doing a public service by warning people.

My partner and I just spent a week in Soho on holiday and tracked down all the locations of the film ... the Toucan Bar (with the creepy downstairs cellar bar), Paddington Station, the Empire Haymarket Cinema (aka the cinema screening "Thunderball" and the exterior of the Cafe de Paris doors) and all around the streets of Soho ... it was eeerily good fun!
This movie is brilliant. I watched it on a flight. I love how they portrayed that how captivating, mesmerising and tantalising a performer or an entertainer is, can actually succeed in making the viewer almost believes that they are also an entertainer themselves! Maybe because the concept of a ‘beautiful celebrity’ is in and by itself an extremely entertaining dream to the human brain! I also love how they showed that there is indeed a dark and gruesome background behind the glamorous world of entertainers, whether they are singers, dancers or both. And I loved the plot twist at the end it honestly was both crazy and unexpected! Really liked this movie and I definitely want to watch it again!
I have been in love with this movie since I first saw it, the set designs, soundtrack, wardrobe, the plot and brilliantly acted, joys voice is gorgeous and unique. How it gets no attention for being brilliant I have no clue.

i'm around eloise's age and for the last two years i keep watching films from the 1950s - 1960s, especially with gregory peck and marlon brando. i mean....i was just beginning to learn and love those era so while i was watching this film i keep thinking "this girl likes the 60s why do you have to turn that fondness and excitement into a nightmare for her?". i was actually happy for her when she gets to experience the 60s herself (at first)
Anya Taylor is always a delight to see bc her roles are always fresh & unique. but that aside, all of the stars here did a splendid job making this a very not-your-typical horror film. I really like Elle here. it's worth the watch over and over for sure.

Anya Taylor-Joy was great but can we give some roses for Thomasin McKenzie? She leads this movie, she was amazing. She deserved more credit as much as Anya for her terrific range in some of the scary scenes
Agreed 👍 Would like to add... Diana Rigg, aka "the old lady" lol. Also, the bar owner, forgot her name but she also passed on after this film, she was so good in the few scenes she had.
@@justin188541 that's Margaret Nolan I believe
Horrible flick.
Anya played a girl named Thomasin in her first movie. Funny thing
To some of you who’re still on the fence about giving this movie a go, do it. Cinematography, the acting, plots and everything were brilliant. Im glad i watched it. Highly recommend it
Thomasin McKenzie is phenomenal! I'm expecting to see more of her in the next few years.
everyone talked about Edgar, Anya, Thomasin (and I love them too! this is so fantastic!)
but now I’m sad because I can’t find anyone talk about Matt Smith
I know him from Doctor Who and he’s super talented!
Think he will be back for the Who 60th Anniversary, Boonraksa?
Love when i see him in movies
he's the second reason why I watched the movie. I love how he acts, he's versatile! He could fit in any role 🥺
Matt Smith was brilliant throughout, really enjoyed his performance
after watching the movie, it's not just a great movie it's an amazing masterpiece.

Author Stephen King had the opportunity to see this movie at an advanced screening, and he was so impressed by what he saw, he tweeted "I hardly ever re-watch - there's so many good things out there - but this one is special."
Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, Rita Tushingham and Margaret Nolan were all big names in British film, TV and theatre in the 1960s, when a great deal of the story in this movie takes place.
It's also the final film appearance of Margaret Nolan!
@@kimnayung
Did I say story lines are unnecessary? Stop putting words on my mouth. This is a UA-cam comment. Are you expecting me to do a full run analysis of the film? Lol of course I'm just gonna point out what I mostly noticed. Besides, the storyline of this film is not bad at all.
I was already loving this movie the music, acting, characters, and everything about it. Then I witnessed that plot twist at the end and it was soo good. I never expected it at all. But it definitely made the movie a 10/10 for me.

It doesnt look scary or surprising. Edgar Wright has made a career on collecting film cliches, and I'm sort of worn out on his style
@@oscarsalesgirl296 the trailers for his movies don’t really show how great the movie itself is, Scott pilgrim didn’t really make much in the box office because of that and now a ton of people love it
After watching the movie, I can recognize the brilliance of this trailer. What a twist.
Saw it today. Magnificent. Best movie of 2021 so far
Just watched this trailer for the first time a few moments ago. Got major goosebumps. Matt Smith in a Time Travel theme once again? Yes please! And the legend that is Terence Stamp, count me in!
This movie was freaking intense and uncomfortable. Genuinely surprised by how scary this movie is.
Just goes that Edgar Wright is more than a comedy director but a great director who definitely deserves WAY more respect in the industry and box office.
Agreed. One of my new favorites!
So happy to have seen a post from someone who saw the movie! I can't wait! It looks amazing.
yea he went all in on the horror. some terrifying images in this film. just the way ellie starts with brown hair and a simple look and then later in the film after the party she looks fucking insane with the makeup and her blonde hair
I saw the trailer watching Venom and it drew me in so I had to go see it and let's just say the movie has a different vibe to what you might pick in from the trailer, I liked it a lot and I think I might go see it again if I get the chance

One of the best movies I’ve seen! Been to see it twice now and plan on seeing it again ! Absolute brilliant progression

@@filiplarrion5428 If you didn't care, then why bother making a comment?
Really liked this movie and I definitely want to watch it again!

i'm around eloise's age and for the last two years i keep watching films from the 1950s - 1960s, especially with gregory peck and marlon brando. i mean....i was just beginning to learn and love those era so while i was watching this film i keep thinking "this girl likes the 60s why do you have to turn that fondness and excitement into a nightmare for her?". i was actually happy for her when she gets to experience the 60s herself (at first)
Anya Taylor is always a delight to see bc her roles are always fresh & unique. but that aside, all of the stars here did a splendid job making this a very not-your-typical horror film. I really like Elle here. it's worth the watch over and over for sure.
I absolutely adore this movie and as many know, it's sad that it didn't do too well at the box office. Will watch again!

If this movie does not feature "Last Night in Soho" from Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, i'll go nuts.
or Downtown by Petula Clark
@@Danniboi03 I used to think the film was circa 1965, because of the first teaser trailer and the big announcement of the movie "Thunderball" from the James Bond saga, but I change my mind, becuase in this trailer played the song Starstruck by The Kinks (1968), and Last Night in Soho by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich are from the same year 1968 (probably you know this, but the name of the song is in fact why the movie recieve the name, fingers cross!) There's a big chance that is in the soundtrack! I hope in the credits.

@@Danniboi03 Totally agree with you! Actually if I remember well, thanks to Quentin Tarantino Edgar Wright discovered this band because of the film Death Proof (also Tarantino gets a thanks in the closing credits of Las Night In Soho) Tarantino and Edgar are really good friends. Edgar has such a clear vision and identity and individual style, that I’m sure he nailed it! By the way, I forgot to mention that Petula Clark’s “Downtown” is 100% in the soundtrack! At least that's what I heard, and obvioulsly an interpretaded cover version by Anya Taylor- Joy. Sorry for the long story!
P.S. You have a really decent, great taste in film and music!
You don't need to go nuts Michael because the DDDBM&T masterpiece is played at the end of the film during the rolling credits…hopefully it will now get some of the accolades it deserves as it is one of the greatest song performances of the last 70 years…kudos to Edgar Wright for naming the film after this & hope the film lives up to the song.
