It was so delicious. I made a triple batch for a potluck. Everyone loved it. There were so many people wanting the recipe I wrote it down and made copies.
Never add oil to your water when boiling pasta because it coats the pasta and whenever you add your sauce to the pasta it causes the sauce to slide off the pasta and it won't stick. Once you put pasta in water without oil if it sticks together just Stir It Up it'll separate you don't need the oil
That is not always the case. Depends on the pasta. Depends on the sauce. Depends on the oil used, and the amount of it used. And mainly, depends on the dish being made. It even depends somewhat on your elevation (having lived at sea level and more than a mile (~1.8 km) above it, as well as in between, I have found a great many things you would never think of are affected by elevation - sometimes a LOT more than you'd expect). I have oiled pasta while boiling it, or even after boiling, hundreds of times over the past few decades - and to great effect. Of course, I don't always. As I said... depends on a ton of factors.
I have done some conversations and wrote out the recipe. I added spinach because I don’t care for parsley. But I followed this as best I could. I hope it helps! Ingredients 1 lb penne noodles 1 tsp salt Olive oil 1 ½ to 1 ¾ lb hamburger meat 2 tsp salt 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp Oregano Pepper to taste 1 bunch of green onions 2 cloves of garlic 3 ⅛ cups tomato sauce ¼ cup butter ⅛ cup of olive oil or grape seed oil 1 tsp dry garlic 1 tsp dry parsley 1 tsp salt Handful of fresh parsley or chopped spinach leaves 1 cup heavy cream or half and half ½ cup Cheddar cheese additional 1 cup of Cheddar for the top ¼ cup Parmesan cheese Add salt and olive oil (add oil if wanted. It keeps pasta water from boiling over) to water and boil. Then add pasta and boil until done. Drain the noodles in a colander or strainer. Cook the hamburger for two to three minutes, breaking it up as it cooks. Add the 2 tsp salt, paprika, oregano, and pepper to taste. Mix well. Add green onions and 2 cloves of garlic, mixing well. Cook for five minutes. Add tomato sauce and boil for five more minutes. In another pan add butter, oil, dry garlic, dry parsley, 1 tsp salt, and pepper to taste. Once butter is melted slowly add the cream. Cook until slightly thickened then add fresh parsley or spinach leaves, cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. Mix well. When the cheese is melted add the pasta to the cheese mixture and mix until it’s well coated. Butter a casserole dish and put in a layer of the meat mixture then a layer of pasta mixture, following meat and pasta layers and ending with meat layer. Sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Bake at 375 F or 190 C for 10-15 minutes or until hot and bubbling.
It looked like white cheese. Is cheddar white in other countries? I thought it might be mozzarella. 🤷♀️ (My 89yr old mother has cancer & I’m just trying to find things she will eat.) I guess you could add any cheese you want. Our refrigerator is full of everything because of Christmas cooking & baking. Busy week in the kitchen. Happy Holidays! 🎄
@@lisacobb7525 I’m sorry about your mother. Prayers for her, you, and your family. In answer to your question there is white cheddar. I’m not sure where you’re located but I’m in Washington State so we have white cheddar here. I’ve heard it’s better for you health wise because with yellow cheddar they have additives to make it yellow and not the healthiest. You can adapt the recipe to any cheese you like or what you think your mother can handle. Hope this helps!
To make low carb and less calories I use of of 4 instead of pasta rough chop broccoli or cabbage or cauliflower (fresh or frozen 1/2 thawed) or greens beans(fresh or canned drain can green beans) no need to cook which ever vegetable u choose before adding they cook in oven. It's really good! Viewing from USA Kentucky
Hello, and greetings from Las Vegas Nevada, USA! I live in the US but I'm GREEK. In Greece they call this dish "Pastitsio", and Ma makes a mean Pastitsio! She uses Parmesan and Romano cheese. The Real Greek recipe calls for a little Nutmeg, but we leave it out... Thanks for the post! God bless and take care...
I make a version of this dish at least once a month I just love the smell of onions and garlic aromas going through the house I have used chicken mince on occasion too
Greetings from New Hampshire, USA! Think I need to make this this week! 😋 I do agree with the people who are posting to not put oil in your pasta water. Salt is all you need. Not only does it flavor it, it also keeps the pasta from sticking.
I am watching from Tennessee in the USA 🇺🇸! As soon as I hit "comment" I'm off to the grocery store to buy the ingredients to make this mouthwatering dish!
I am watching from the U.S.A. That looks so good I would probably eat it all myself! 🤤

Salt 🧂. I used to add oil until it dawned on me they oil and water don't mix.
