There's an alternative and quick way to defeat him:
In thug style, you have to use the steal weapon ability to steal his dagger. Then throw It to him and you'll defeat him
If you steal the Dagger from Amon, throwing it against his own face he dies instantly
I used your strategy to beat both amons with no damage, except I had my health at zero and with the payback ring, needless to say their health went down like crazy, though I did something a little different, whenever I knocked him down with the thug counter or the breaker grapple, I made sure to change to thug and stand behind him so I could do the combo.
Payback ring + critical health = insane damage also at level 1 without upgrades, you can beat him in less than 1.30 and seconds.
Yes, change to thug and stand behind him is pretty risky sometimes, but works.

This performance is GODLIKE, you're timing is great with thug style's counter and breaker style, the timing of the dodge must be very precise and you should cancel thug's combo very quickly. During the second phase, if your missing the timing or waste your time you can't use thug's style counter because requires lv3 and it's the end of the road, because you don't have any other options because you can't use mad dog or weapons and he is impossible to catch with breaker style.
i noticed during my attempts that he still can hit you during breaker's counter and i don't understand the reason.there's no invincible frame or what?

It's a proof of true mastery this video, 1 mistake with counters or you waste your timing or bad movements in the second phase = you're a dead... also without critical health and equipment useful in the combat.
you're not boned if you miss the thug counter in the second phase, you can use breaker style counter to gain heat or even wait for him to finish a mad dog combo and grab him with your feet, although i will admit both of those are slightly risky

Yeah, you're right. But this is a video from 2017 when the game was released, probably now there are new techniques/tech discovered to beat jo amon in the second phase.
For example i remember in 2017 i defeat so amon with beast style/counter hook and i didn't know so many things, in 2021 i defeat him without beast style.
After doing a counter with on Breaker style while the knife's out, it always feels like it's by chance he won't attack immediately after I do so, making any kind of dodge useless.

I nerfed him a little in his last phase where instead of doing the mad dog moves he just does the regular knife attacks

This is some skill, wowie! I'd love to try this out, but I can't even remember which specific moves those are. Also, your evasion is on-point and I'm not sure how accurately I could reproduce this. How do you generate so much heat? Is this on console or PC? So many questions, so many mysteries.
The heat comes from him being drunk. The thug skills allow you to basically double the heat you get when just like with Kiryu's brawler style
@@KingDread32 drunk status doesn't matter..the full combo with thug style double the heat you get.. i tried the same without drunk and it is the same.

I have upgraded the health in mad dog style, it's called Ultra Health Boost (Yellow).

Dont' press R1 + Triangle but R1 + Circle. Moreover, in the yakuza series , when you don't want to do a heat action, just hold L2.
