@@AhMrJIAssume Off the top of my head the Egyptian Gods would be up their considering Ra has several cards made specifically to get its anime effects back
Ehh, maybe not the "initial" idea.... as that would be how Paradox used them in the movie, so it was more like, "Okay, we messed up... here, you can play them like they were used in the movie now."
I think another issue that the real world Malefic cards have over their anime counterparts is that the anime versions shared an effect from their original counterpart. Malefic Cyber End Dragon could still do piercing damage.
It's worth noting that most Malefic monsters that require a main deck monster require their base monster to be banished specifically from the deck and not the hand (except Malefic Rainbow Dragon), which means you have to run a bunch of high-level Garnets just to use them unless you have Paradox Gear
that's a another reason it fails the deck kinda assumes you will have either the field spell or malefic territory in starting hand, so you can actually start doing plays BUT IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE an archetypal card that lets you shuffle the garets to say, grab the corresponding malefic card
@@ianr.navahuber2195 I'm mainly bringing it up because the video says "hand or deck" so I'm stating that it's even worse than the video says You're not wrong though
Its kinda hillarious that Malefic Red Eyes and Malefic Blue Eyes are *objectively worse* then the originals as their card text is literally just a list of restrictions -_- that make them unplayable even in a pure Malefic deck
In reality you don't because Paradox Gear has the effect that if you would summon a Malefic monster through it's normal summoning conditions, you can instead banish Gear from your field or GY

@@roncerjani9063 I got the Red-Eyes from my mate's DVD, cuz I play Red-Eyes, he plays Blue-Eyes! When I first saw the Malefics, the first card I saw was the Red-Eyes and it called "Sin Red-Eyes B. Dragon" (still sporting the abbreviation, even though everybody knew it stood for "black"! Well, at least I thought everybody did; I actually encountered someone who didn't! Can you believe it?)!
Skill Drain at 3 and necrovalley as a backup. I remembered a while later they released "lv10" support and a field card that helped out malefic cyber end dragon
The biggest mistake they did was not giving the Malefics their anime effects. Would have been interesting to see Malefic versions of the rest of the Signer Dragons, Borreload Dragon and Firewall Dragon, Galaxy-eyes Photon and Tachyon Dragon, the Dimensonal Dragons and other dragons from the rest of the series.
Most of the Malefics only require a field spell ANYWHERE on the field, even your opponent's. Learned this the hard way playing Aromages and bouncing Malefic World but that didn't destroy their monsters coz I have Garden out.
I remember years ago I was dueling my brother with Malefics against his Crystal Beast deck. Turn 1 I had Parallel Gear and Truth Dragon in my hand, set Gear and passed knowing he'd use the CB Field Spell. He did and attacked the set Gear which triggered Truth Dragon. So I had a 0/0 Tuner become a 5000/5000 Big Dragon. It was hilarious!
My best memories of using Malefic monsters was actually in the DS 5D's games as they had turbo duels meaning Speed World was ALWAYS in play during them and it couldn't be removed by any means. It was insanely fun running a Skill Drain Malefic deck with cards that gave them piercing effects in those duels and remembering this actually has me wanting to go back and replay them.
Give all the Malefics an errata that does what territory does and then change Malefics territory effect to protect those monsters form card effects while also activating their field spell
I always hated Territory because the same pack that had it also reprinted almost every Malefic monsters, they could have just errataed the monsters en mass. Now they're chained down even harder, needing both a field spell and a continuous spell to function.
I had some fine tuning in mind for the effects. Like take blue eyes for one: _This monsters name is treated as “Blue-Eyes White Dragon “ While on the field or in the GY. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand or deck) by banishing 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your Hand, Deck or Field (Quick Effect). You can only control 1 "Malefic" monster on the field. Other monsters you control cannot declare an attack. If this card destroys a monster by battle, you can add 1 field spell from your deck or GY to your hand. If there is no face-up Field Spell on the field, destroy this card._
@@doomgirl5341 I mean you don’t necessarily _need_ Malefic territory or world per say, just a field spell card in general for most of them. That what Blue eye’s new effect is supposed to help with; get any field spell card out on the field, easily special summon it with its improved effect, and use its new one to search out Malefic world. Alternatively, since it’s name counts as the original Blue-Eyes on the field AND GY, and the summon condition _isn’t_ once per turn, you could simply banish 3 blue-eyes monsters to summon them _without_ a field spell on the field, one at a time, to summon and automatically destroy them, so they’d be in the GY for cards that can use them there, like Dragons Mirror.
@@Combaticon Galaxy-Eyes! I didn't think of that one! What about Utopia as well, "Malefic Number 39: Utopia"? Another potentially playable Malefic, though, I would have to wonder if Malefic Galaxy-Eyes would count towards Neo Galaxy-Eyes' Effect...? (I'm way ahead of you on Demon's!)
I love the malefic the best way to use them is get final stigma and put power guardian on him and he will be a god if anybody ever wants to challenge me and Yu-Gi-Oh duel Masters my name is Germany 1984 and I will show you how to use them malefic
I personally love these cards, the first deck I built in Master Duel was a Malefic one. It would be nice if they would release new support for these cards, id instantly buy those packs in game and irl but I don't ever see that happening.
On the one hand, I get that so many anime cards have such incredibly busted effects that it's just not a good idea to release them in the IRL card game as they were in the anime. But on the other hand, it often feels that Konami goes to the opposite extreme of over-balancing them so much, they end becoming useless. It's almost like the opposite of doing tie-in merchandise that people would actually like to buy.
It is worth mentioning that, when Malefics were released in Duel Links, they did enjoy a time in the spotlight in ranked duels. I remember thinking "you can just summon a high level beater for almost nothing? BullPOMU" at the time, but then came better archtypes and now Malefics are just something Paradox uses badly in raid duels :V
Something really funny with Malefic Cyber End is that trains can use it; it's a level 10 machine, so it can be used as xyz material for the train boss monsters and trains has a field spell that they really want and like. Also, Super Express Bullet Train can add it back to your hand during the end phase so you can keep using it as long as you have cyber ends in ED
Another Failed mechanics could be the cards that need to be draw during the draw phase to activate their efects. Because it is related to the anime and doesn't work in real life.
It's definitely fun to just randomly whip out a malefic cyber end dragon from time to time since it's the least intrusive of the malefics. If I wanted to fix them personally it would be a field spell that has a protection that lets you return a card listed on a malefic monster's text from the banished or deck and add a malefic monster that list the return monster's name to the hand. Basically a protection that lets you set up for a summon.
Normally I consider an archetype that has cards sees competitive play, even if it isn't a deck revovled around it, as not failed. Buuuut... I feel like Malefic Cyber End Dragon sort of cheats the "spirit" of the archetype by not having the main deck brick. So I feel comfortable to say it belongs in this series. I think the Blue-Eyes White Dragon one might have seen more play if you summoned by dumping it into the graveyard instead of banishing and if the "There can only be 1 Malefic monster on the field" was replaced by "Other Malefic monsters cannot inflict battle damage. Negate the effect of other Malefic monsters, except effects which destroy themselves.' "
Malefic Paradox Gear is crazy, as it is a 1 card Baronne de Fleur Through skill drain, a floodgate the deck already wants to play. It also filly the graveyard with itself, a parallel gear, and a malefic stardust dragon so you can use thier spell card (which you didn't mention..? Literally Pot Of Greed ROTA) malefic selector, to get anything you need, from terrirtory to another paradox gear, to just getting 2 4k beat sticks. Crazy potential and actually not to shabby if it just had some more support, as they don't have enough consistency boosting tools
I used to run M Cyber End and M Stardust in my Zombie World Deck, letting them become Zombies to also allow them protection and boosts from Pyramid of Wonders
I actually used Malefic Red Eyes with Dragon Rulers when the babies got banned. Malefic Red Eyes gave me a free inherent deck checking summon. Even drawing regular Red Eyes was never a dead card cause it could always be used for fodder. Only went to one regional with it, but went 7-2 using it.
I actually had a Malefic deck where I ran Future Fusion(pre-errata) for Five Headed Dragon, Montage Dragon for the bricks, the Viruses cards(Deck Devastation, Epidemic & Darklight) along with Armageddon Knight and Dark Grepher. Future Fusion thins out the deck, Montage helped with the bricks and had a decent fun play. I was very proud of it. Didn’t really bricked either.
I only used Malefics with Token Beatdown decks with the Field spell that turns monsters NS and SS into Tokens equal to their original stats, in which Malefics were the best targets in which you can swarm your field with 5 5k ATK, paired with Skill Drain and Soul Drain along with Backrow protection it was really a good gimmick stall deck.
I think the biggest problem with Malefics actually lies in their field spell. For funsies, let's compare "Malefic World" with "Fallen Paradise" since they're both field spells that support big beatstick monsters. Fallen Paradise offers destruction and targeting immunity. Malefic World does not. Fallen Paradise has multiple search options in it's archetype. Malefic World only has Malefic Territory and Malefic Selectir, with the latter being extremely bad if used to search the spell since it relies on already having a GY set up. Fallen Paradise grants extra card advantage each turn. Malefic World replaces your Draw and can be negated, causing a loss in card advantage. Malefic world needs to be completely rewritten if this archetype is going to see any sort of reliable results. As it stands they're reliant on a field spell that barely does anything, is easily destroyed and is also slow and unreliable.
One of the worse thing about how their effects got changed irl is that they lost most of their good upside that would actually justify the only one on field restriction Like how cyber end did piercing or how rainbow could increase its atk and shuffle all card on field in deck or even stardust malefic having the exact same protection has the original stardust I wonder why they would even remove malefic paradox s effect to decrease the attack of opponent's monster by the atk of the synchros you control.
6:20 this isn't likely to ever happen again since Madolche and Crystal Beasts can access it (or any other field spell they want for that matter) even easier and both have WAY better tools to defend it.
You forgot about malefic paradigm dragon, people just uses it alongside stardust/cyber end dragon to summon the original counterparts of them and go for xyz plays.
Malefic World (REWORK) [SPELL|Field] The first time each Special Summoned “Malefic” monster would be destroyed by battle each turn, it is not destroyed. During damage calculation, if your "Malefic" monster battles an opponent's monster: Your battling monster gains 1000 ATK/DEF during that damage calculation only. Once per turn: You can reveal 1 “Malefic” monster in your hand, then activate 1 or 2 of these effects in sequence; ●Add 1 of your "Malefic" card from your Deck or banishment to your hand, except "Malefic World", then shuffle the revealed card into the Deck. ●Shuffle from your banishment into the Deck, 1 “Malefic” monster that cannot be Normal Summoned/Set, or 1 monster that is mentioned on that revealed monster. MALEFIC BLUE-EYES WHITE DRAGON (REWORK) [Monster|Effect] DARK Dragon [★8] ATK/3000 DEF/ 2500 Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your hand, Deck, or GY while "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is not on the field. If "Malefic World" is not on the field, destroy this card. Negate the effects of face-up monsters while your opponent controls them during the Battle Phase. Your opponent cannot activate monster effects during the Battle Phase. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict double piercing battle damage. Non-“Malefic” monsters you control cannot attack directly.
And even with all that effort to fix their drawbacks with Territory, that card also actually negates the beneficial effect of Truth Dragon because it's a battle effect.
Ever since I started running trains, I always enjoyed running malefic cyber end dragon with them as extra fodder for rank 10 xyz plays. Also, since my favorite version of trains relies on skill drain to turn the main deck trains into easy to summon beatsticks while nullifying my opponent's effects to protect them, Malefic Cyber end just fits more.
Malefic stardust dragon was especially played when starlight road was a staple, because it could also protect the field spell and GraveKeeper could easily have 3 stardust in the extra deck
The few things that i hate with the cards was because you banish them instead of sending them to the graveyard and they never made new monster cards for them
there is also another problem, besides that you banish the corresponding monster from the deck/extra deck instead of send it to the gy, hindering malefics to be splashable: besides malefis stardust dragon, which have a somewhat related protection effect to the original, in anime malefic monsters had their original counterpart's effect (piercing of cyber end, full negate, destroy and revival of stardust, attack gain of rainbow etc.).
I personally would make a second field spell NOT to replace the original malefic world, but one that lets you add add malefic territory WHILE ALSO giving you an archetypal Magic Mallet that lets you shuffle back into the deck the Bricks. This is because Territory serves as a Way to trigger Malefic Truth's summon condition. And Territory already helps the deck MAYBE this give this hypohethical field spell a "unless you have a malefic monster on the field or in the GY, you cannot activate monster effects on the hand" effect so you can have a way to counter hand traps by Giving it to Your opponent (that way, You can still summon malefics, ifyour opponent still has a Field Spell)
Want to just throw out how funny it is that "Geartown into Ancient Gear Gadjitron Dragon" got teched into Malefics, an archetype composed of gears and dragons
You can’t banish from hand to summon, which adds an additional layer or brickiness due to the fact that you can’t unbrick by drawing the Malefic version if you had the base version in hand
Would love to see a video on Pyro monsters, a failed type. At this point Konami uses the type exclusively for either pack filler or for mixed type archetypes like Prank Kids.
I threw malefic Cyber end dragon in my gravekeepers deck for a bit. It was fun to bust out such a strong monster so easily, but not being able to attack with any other monster was crippling enough that I took it out of my deck
This video does a good job to explain why even though I have them they arent in my decks, I have a Blue Eyes deck and Malific Blue Eyes but it doesnt sit in the deck nor does the Truth dragon for that reason.
Man to me these are some of the coolest cards to me. I at one point had a truth dragon. I think their really fun to play casually with like seal of orichalcos or under skill drain.
One small note: with how field spells used to work, if you activated Necrovalley on top of geartown, geartown would be destroyed, but it would actually miss timing bc of the optional when effect. In order to trigger it successfully, you would need to set necrovally first, then after resolving geartown you would activate it
@@MrDeeluv1996 Not quite! He said that you need to "activate" Necrovalley, which would cause geartown to miss timing. In actuality, you would need to "Set" Necrovalley instead
It was pretty fun mixing with artifacts and shaddolls to just lock your opponent and beat through with mound of the bound as a field spell, had decent luck competitively back in late 2015.
I wish some of the Malefic monsters had their anime effects, and for Blue eyes and Red eyes to have new effects that supported the archetype or disrupt the opponent, like what Toons did with Red-Eyes Toon Dragon. Imagine how busted Malefic Rainbow Dragon would be in the main game if it had a shuffle effect for the cost of controlling a single field spell?
More gears to access other ED summoning methods Malefic Overlay Gear for XYZ monsters (can use material from the hand, can change its own level accordingly) Malefic Metamorphic Gear (Fusion from hand/deck) Malefic Network Gear (link from hand, lock you into malefic ED for rest of duel) Any new malefic monster doesn’t come with insanely terrible downside
In essence all decks made focused on the old way of playing are currently considered failed. Flip decks, battle phase... Name an old strat and it's probably failed today, unless it's a weird combo.
In some old Tag Force games, or online yugioh games that have anime cards, people were abusing Malefics with Ecole de Zone some time ago. That's because in the anime, it has the effect to destroy all monsters that are summoned, and replacing them with tokens with their same stats but no effects. So that way you'd basically have a Skill Drain on a field spell, as well as being able to swarm the field with Malefics. Sadly the card irl got some heavy restrictions, such as only working once per turn, and only if it's exactly one monster that's being summoned
I will forever wish for almost a complete redesign of the archetype to make it not absolutely terrible competitively. I have no idea how they would do it but I can dream
@@destinycybermic6930 i am surprised they didn't make a malefic red dragon archfiend you would think at least jack would get some spotlight by virtue of being the rival
I’m glad Malefics are much easier to play in Duel Links, but man is it a painful reminder that even a consistent Territory search isn’t enough to save these guys *That said that’ll never stop me from playing them*
it happened to me once when i bricked I wasn' even using them for ranked duels. just to play against the NPCs to farm EXP the worst part is that pardox's initial skill that gies you stardust and truth in the deck actuall goes against what his cards are suppposed to do (like malefic paradigm) his skills to start the duel with malefic world AND his other skill that at least lets you summon dragons are way better although I like that malefic territory is also an inarchetype way to summon malefic truth have malefic world and a malefic dragon activate territory and set a malefic world from deck, which causes your current dragon to desroy itself, activating malefic truth's summon condition
This is the main deck I ran back in the day, the Geartown version 😁 I think it’s a lot stronger than people gave it credit for because nobody ever ran it
Currently in duel links there is Paradox event, I had field spell on field and Paradox summoned Malefic card. Wait a minute, what cards are showing it is mentioned "if there is no face-up Field Spell card on the field, destroy this card.". So oppenents field spell can be used if opponets plays one.
The cool thing about duel links paradox is the skill “malefic dragons” and with that, malefic world cannot be destroyed by card effects. Too bad a lot of people plays cosmic cyclone :(
You know what would've been great? If the Malefic Dragons actually kept their original monster's effects or for Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes, you give Blue-Eyes the effect of Burst Stream of Destruction and Red-Eyes with Inferno Fire Blast...at least Toon Red-Eyes gave it something..
I'm taking this as a sign an Earthbound Immortals episode is coming soon, as you could just copy and paste almost all of the same flaws of the two decks.
Here’s a idea to fix malefic if they got support that gained broken effects off thier high attack for example a skill drain for any more with less attack the opponent controls or immunity to effects of monsters with lower atk with such powerful disruption effects protection and the fact stardust already protects your field they may then see play again being able to search such cards especially if in tandem with gravekeeper or just a better field spell so it works by itself keeps thier gimmick turns it into a advantage
I'd be really interested in seeing a reverse companion to this series: decks/mechanics that were so pivotal that they changed the way the game is played.
Malefic Territory makes it clear how broken the cards would be if they were made today rather than during a time when Konami was terrified of making a card to strong but also didn't consistently know what "Too Strong" meant.
an additional note with the gravekeepers segment, malefic stardust dragon isn't really needed much now since, gravekeeper's Supernaturalist does what it does, but better. it protects both itself and necrovalley, gives you a search at the end of every turn, and is able to be buffed from necrovalley. so it was kinda phased out from the deck entirely.
Unless I'm greatly mistaken, Crystal Beasts would certainly qualify for a Failed Cards and Mechanics video. They've been releasing Crystal Beast support for 10+ years and they're still mediocre. Maybe Dream Mirrors, too, as they seem like a cool idea that just doesn't seem to work.
Really, they should've put "You can only special summon one Malefic monster each turn" instead of control one and made their field spell negate 1 effect that targets a malefic per turn equal to the number of malefics on the field. This gives them some protecting and protects itself, making it stay easier, and the one per turn allows support via normal summon, expanding the Archetype dramatically without overpowering it. Might not see play still, but it'd be much better.
The way that would kinda be an easy fix is to errata them so that they no longer need a field spell to be on the field But, without malefic world on the field you can only control 1 face-up Malefic monster and only 1 monster can attack, so malefic world essentially acts as Malefic territory and malefic world can keep its excavate ability So now you can take the text off malefic territory that negates the negative effects of malefic cards but you keep the ability to search malefic world and you can keep the protection it gives from card effects And then more support that let you search, pop, negate, some hand traps, and some cards with GY effects, strong staple support cards that every good meta deck has and some more stronger monster that are more than hard to use easy to summon vanilla beat sticks some that have the malefic effects still but has other effects like Stardust dragon more tuners that let you synchro with monsters in your hand so the originals you need in your deck aren’t complete bricks when you draw into them And more variety of extra deck monsters so also having some XYZ and link monsters too Also something that could make them super strong is that all malefic cards are banished instead of going to the GY and it’s support interacts with the banished zone instead of the GY and some of their floating effects activate from the banished zone the way floating GY effect but in reverse where you can discard the card from the banished zone to the graveyard which I think would be cool and unique
I think really the actual way to play Malefics is to use Paradox Gear to just turbo out big synchros like Baronne De Fleur or Final Sigma. You can even run Dark Hex Sealed Fusion to make Dragoon. And Paradigm Dragon can get you the regular Stardust Dragon while pitching Malefic names for Malefic Sector which is surprisingly a plus one. Plus this deck has a neat interaction with Baronne De Fleur where you can spend its negate on your opponent's turn, then during your standby phase, you can tag out Baronne for your Paradox Gear again and just use it to re-summon your Baronne with a fresh omni-negate on it. It's kind of a fun deck if you just want to easily turbo out big synchros from your extra deck without having to worry about like Nibiru. What they're missing is some decent protection, like they should probably just make like some alternate field spell that's like always treated as "Malefic World" so you can bring it out with Territory that instead of the draw effect does something vaguely similar to Fallen Paradise where your Malefics cant be targeted or destroyed by card effects that just does the Malefic search as just like the activation effect.
Malefic Cyber End Dragon has a special place in my heart. Years ago, I ran it in my online Rank10Trains deck since it was an easy to summon Level 10 Machine in a deck that benefits greatly from it's Field Spell. I had Super Dora out, my opponent had Cyber Dragon Infinity out. I activated Dora's effect since I was nervous but Infinity chained to Dora's effect. Fortunately Infinity's negate is once per turn and I had Malefic Cyber in my hand to SS and beat over the Infinity.
an archetype doesnt need to be good to be cool, and cool cards is what all you need to have fun with a deck all im saying, i love this archetype and its one of my fav
I actually play this deck a decent amount (casually, of course) and it's actually surprising just how good of a Synchro toolbox it is. Territory, Selector, and especially Paradox Gear are literal custom cards that allow you to very easily get out good generic 10s and 12s (Baronne, Final Sigma, Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying and even Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate has potential, among others) using them as the backbone of the strategy since World represents doing this every turn. You dodge all of the downsides if the only Malefics to hit the field are the Gears. You can still summon the Dragons which aren't bad with Territory up, since Malefic Stardust and Paradigm gets you 6500 ATK of beaters, a free (improperly summoned) vanilla Stardust to protect them, and some form of recovery in grave if things go wrong all without using your Normal summon and if you used your Normal summon to get a Final Sigma, he can still attack because of his effect. Jam in a bunch of going second cards and it's not a half-bad casual going second deck. The thing that the Malefic cards really want though is a hypothetical deck that has consistent Field Spell access and doesn't need it's Normal summon. In that hypothetical, a package of three Paradox Gear, one Parallel Gear, and one Malefic Stardust/Cyber End Dragon could actually be a nice little engine to include for a free 10/12 Synchro to add on top of whatever else the deck is doing. Maybe that deck already exists and its players just don't know about this since it's definitely not a well-known archetype, or maybe they have a better Normal they play instead (probably the Invoked engine).
I personally like splashing a Malefic Cyber End Dragon into my Cyber Dragon deck, but not for the normal reason. Yes, it's a very good 4k beatstick with an easy summon requirement and synergy with the deck anyway, but the main reason I play it is to have an excuse for a Field Spell, for which I chose Mound of the Bound Creator because MCED, normal Cyber End, _and_ Cyber Eltanin are all Level 10 and therefore gain Mound's protection effect. And if my opponent outs MCED by destroying Mound... I run Ra Sphere Mode in the deck for enemy monster removal anyway, so that destruction lets me search Sphere Mode.
Malefics like BEWD or REBD are decent extenders, but only in those decks. There are better extenders, but it depends on the deck build. Edit: Most of those deck builds are best built in Duel Links as skills can place a free field spell for free.
Literally 0 builds in duel links use malefics as extenders, The concept of extenders doesnt even exist in duel links. What the hell are you talking about lmao.
I will give credit to Malefic Cyber End Dragon for helping me grind cards against Yugi in Millennium Duels (getting rid of Black Skull Dragon or going into Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer after using Galaxy Queen's Light on Spirit Reaper(s)/Marshmallon(s) and then in Link Evolution by tributing it with Lyrilusc - Independent Nightingale for a 10K Tyrant Neptune.
id like to add from personal experience that kaiju decks can use malific end dragon, either to rank 10 with the star destroyer kaiju or as lnk materials.

Most of the Malefics only require a field spell ANYWHERE on the field, even your opponent's. Learned this the hard way playing Aromages and bouncing Malefic World but that didn't destroy their monsters coz I have Garden out.
so malefic valyantz deck when?
@@ianr.navahuber2195 this sound like the dumbest and greatest Idea I've ever heard
So it works like Doomking Balerdroch's effect to revive itself?
I remember years ago I was dueling my brother with Malefics against his Crystal Beast deck. Turn 1 I had Parallel Gear and Truth Dragon in my hand, set Gear and passed knowing he'd use the CB Field Spell. He did and attacked the set Gear which triggered Truth Dragon. So I had a 0/0 Tuner become a 5000/5000 Big Dragon. It was hilarious!
I loved Bonds Beyond Time, saw it in the theater. Remembering that movie is the best part of the Malefic cards.
have you seen Bonds Beyond Time Abridged?
Thats the movie where the 3 protagonist have a duel together? because it was horrible!!!
@@DotHackerBlackWing I haven't, I'll check that out. Thanks!
I kind of want to play those DS games now but they've gotten pricy
Give all the Malefics an errata that does what territory does and then change Malefics territory effect to protect those monsters form card effects while also activating their field spell
I always hated Territory because the same pack that had it also reprinted almost every Malefic monsters, they could have just errataed the monsters en mass. Now they're chained down even harder, needing both a field spell and a continuous spell to function.
100% agree on this one, the malefics are my favorite archetype and it saddens me that they're this awful.
I had some fine tuning in mind for the effects. Like take blue eyes for one:
_This monsters name is treated as “Blue-Eyes White Dragon “ While on the field or in the GY.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire yeah but how will the malefic monster attack if there isn't territory on the field
@@doomgirl5341
I mean you don’t necessarily _need_ Malefic territory or world per say, just a field spell card in general for most of them.
Imagine Paradox still alive and have Malefic of any Borrel Link Dragon or Topologic
That sounds like such a fun sequal
Amazing idea!

I love the malefic the best way to use them is get final stigma and put power guardian on him and he will be a god if anybody ever wants to challenge me and Yu-Gi-Oh duel Masters my name is Germany 1984 and I will show you how to use them malefic
Moral of the Story:
Unless you have "Mound of the Bound Creator" field spell And "Skill Drain" up on the board This Archetype is useless.
They still kinda do. Most of the Malefics can end the game in one swing in Duel Links, which makes them scary as hell for even top tier strategies
Trains also use exodius since it's a level 10 with an easy special summoning condition, it may as well be a vanilla after that
Another Failed mechanics could be the cards that need to be draw during the draw phase to activate their efects.
Back around before pendulums I loved playing a malefic montage dragon deck. So satisfying for so little protection
Malefic Cyber End is also level 10 which give you access to cards like Gustav Max and Juggernaut Liebe.
I like how cyber end dragon where the one seeing most play, because it was a level 10 that Was easy to summon, so trains used it
It was because it had 4000 attack and no brick
@@IndexInvestingWithCole and that
Malefic Paradox Gear is crazy, as it is a 1 card Baronne de Fleur Through skill drain, a floodgate the deck already wants to play.
When I was in hs, and the Malefic were released, all my YG playing friends were crazy about them, especially online in sites like Dueling Network
One of the worse thing about how their effects got changed irl is that they lost most of their good upside that would actually justify the only one on field restriction
Like how cyber end did piercing or how rainbow could increase its atk and shuffle all card on field in deck or even stardust malefic having the exact same protection has the original stardust
I wonder why they would even remove malefic paradox s effect to decrease the attack of opponent's monster by the atk of the synchros you control.
Malefic World (REWORK)
[SPELL|Field]
The first time each Special Summoned “Malefic” monster would be destroyed by battle each turn, it is not destroyed. During damage calculation, if your "Malefic" monster battles an opponent's monster: Your battling monster gains 1000 ATK/DEF during that damage calculation only. Once per turn: You can reveal 1 “Malefic” monster in your hand, then activate 1 or 2 of these effects in sequence;
●Add 1 of your "Malefic" card from your Deck or banishment to your hand, except "Malefic World", then shuffle the revealed card into the Deck.
●Shuffle from your banishment into the Deck, 1 “Malefic” monster that cannot be Normal Summoned/Set, or 1 monster that is mentioned on that revealed monster.
MALEFIC BLUE-EYES WHITE DRAGON (REWORK)
[Monster|Effect] DARK Dragon
[★8] ATK/3000 DEF/ 2500
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set.
Malefic Stardust Dragon was such a good tech card for gravekeepers back in the day when only one field spell could be played.
I absolutely adore the Malefic cards. I hope they become actually playable someday
Try splashing them in a liar of Darkness deck
To be fair, they're playable now. Just not particularly consistent.
Malefic World *desperately* needs a retrain tgat remakes it from the ground up
The few things that i hate with the cards was because you banish them instead of sending them to the graveyard and they never made new monster cards for them
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
there is also another problem, besides that you banish the corresponding monster from the deck/extra deck instead of send it to the gy, hindering malefics to be splashable: besides malefis stardust dragon, which have a somewhat related protection effect to the original, in anime malefic monsters had their original counterpart's effect (piercing of cyber end, full negate, destroy and revival of stardust, attack gain of rainbow etc.).
And Territory already helps the deck
MAYBE this give this hypohethical field spell a "unless you have a malefic monster on the field or in the GY, you cannot activate monster effects on the hand" effect so you can have a way to counter hand traps by Giving it to Your opponent (that way, You can still summon malefics, ifyour opponent still has a Field Spell)
I have been EATING UP the failed cards series lately
Want to just throw out how funny it is that "Geartown into Ancient Gear Gadjitron Dragon" got teched into Malefics, an archetype composed of gears and dragons
They could do with a new line of monsters, based on more modern iconic anime dragons.
This is my favorite deck to play, going into barron with the gear tuner and malefic stardust is always so funny to me
You can’t banish from hand to summon, which adds an additional layer or brickiness due to the fact that you can’t unbrick by drawing the Malefic version if you had the base version in hand
"Behold Pwotagonists! My Mawific Stawdust Dwagon!"
Would love to see a video on Pyro monsters, a failed type. At this point Konami uses the type exclusively for either pack filler or for mixed type archetypes like Prank Kids.
Skill Drain Malefics were a favorite deck of mine. The deck however has probably fallen from grace until we get a massive update.
Damn that’s a good one
One small note: with how field spells used to work, if you activated Necrovalley on top of geartown, geartown would be destroyed, but it would actually miss timing bc of the optional when effect. In order to trigger it successfully, you would need to set necrovally first, then after resolving geartown you would activate it
He literally explained that in the video
@@MrDeeluv1996 Not quite! He said that you need to "activate" Necrovalley, which would cause geartown to miss timing. In actuality, you would need to "Set" Necrovalley instead
@@GorgeGrouse 11:23 "Set other field card on top of Geartown, so it doesn't miss timing"

More gears to access other ED summoning methods
Malefic Overlay Gear for XYZ monsters (can use material from the hand, can change its own level accordingly)
Malefic Metamorphic Gear (Fusion from hand/deck)
Malefic Network Gear (link from hand, lock you into malefic ED for rest of duel)
Any new malefic monster doesn’t come with insanely terrible downside
Not sure if this counts as a failed mechanic, but an episode on battle phase centric decks like war rock would be interesting
In essence all decks made focused on the old way of playing are currently considered failed. Flip decks, battle phase... Name an old strat and it's probably failed today, unless it's a weird combo.
Yeah, I understand that. That’s why I mentioned war rocks specifically as they are a more modern deck that still focuses on the battle phase.
Not all of them. Subterrors are a flip deck and they are pretty average. They were even better just a few years ago
You know the mechanic and archetype is bad when Rata/RANK10YGO insults it to kingdom come in his Malefic video as an improvised skit.
Coincidentally I opened duel links this week and the Paradox event with the malefics is currently live lol
I love this arctype and I want to see a malefic version of all protagonist and rivals boss/main monsters.
@@destinycybermic6930 i am surprised they didn't make a malefic red dragon archfiend
you would think at least jack would get some spotlight by virtue of being the rival
I’m glad Malefics are much easier to play in Duel Links, but man is it a painful reminder that even a consistent Territory search isn’t enough to save these guys
*That said that’ll never stop me from playing them*
it happened to me once when i bricked
I wasn' even using them for ranked duels. just to play against the NPCs to farm EXP
the worst part is that pardox's initial skill that gies you stardust and truth in the deck actuall goes against what his cards are suppposed to do (like malefic paradigm)
his skills to start the duel with malefic world AND his other skill that at least lets you summon dragons are way better
although I like that malefic territory is also an inarchetype way to summon malefic truth
have malefic world and a malefic dragon activate territory and set a malefic world from deck, which causes your current dragon to desroy itself, activating malefic truth's summon condition
It's such a shame they were limited so hard since they were such an interesting concept.
Too bad a lot of people plays cosmic cyclone :(
I didnt know about that either until I duel him
I remember back in 2017 I used to splash triple malefic cyber end dragon as a free beatstick in every deck that played field spells
I remember playing malefic ciber dragon on rank ten train decks it was a really decent option for xyz plays
0:32 I took 4000 battle damage from the pronunciation of 'Paradigm'... It's supposed to be 'Pair-a-dime'.
Damn , you should make a video and the many times the rules were changed . For example at 10:55.
Failed but still my favorite by far archetype lol
Same
Unless I'm greatly mistaken, Crystal Beasts would certainly qualify for a Failed Cards and Mechanics video.
Konami always relies way too hard to nerf non generic cards. It makes no god damn sense
"Pwotaaaagonist!"
Perfect timing to the deul links event
It's about to end and I only finished it on my main.
The way that would kinda be an easy fix is to errata them so that they no longer need a field spell to be on the field
But, without malefic world on the field you can only control 1 face-up Malefic monster and only 1 monster can attack, so malefic world essentially acts as Malefic territory and malefic world can keep its excavate ability
So now you can take the text off malefic territory that negates the negative effects of malefic cards but you keep the ability to search malefic world and you can keep the protection it gives from card effects
And then more support that let you search, pop, negate, some hand traps, and some cards with GY effects, strong staple support cards that every good meta deck has
and some more stronger monster that are more than hard to use easy to summon vanilla beat sticks some that have the malefic effects still but has other effects like Stardust dragon
more tuners that let you synchro with monsters in your hand so the originals you need in your deck aren’t complete bricks when you draw into them
And more variety of extra deck monsters so also having some XYZ and link monsters too
Also something that could make them super strong is that all malefic cards are banished instead of going to the GY and it’s support interacts with the banished zone instead of the GY and some of their floating effects activate from the banished zone the way floating GY effect but in reverse where you can discard the card from the banished zone to the graveyard which I think would be cool and unique
Malefic territory fieldspell protection is a lingering effect so even if it leaves the field the opponent still can't out the fieldspell in many cases
“Paradijm”.
You’re better than that.
an archetype doesnt need to be good to be cool, and cool cards is what all you need to have fun with a deck
all im saying, i love this archetype and its one of my fav
I knew a guy who played Malefic Cyber End in early versions of Rank 10 trains from before that archetype got fully supported.
I will give credit to Malefic Cyber End Dragon for helping me grind cards against Yugi in Millennium Duels (getting rid of Black Skull Dragon or going into Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer after using Galaxy Queen's Light on Spirit Reaper(s)/Marshmallon(s) and then in Link Evolution by tributing it with Lyrilusc - Independent Nightingale for a 10K Tyrant Neptune.
alternative opinion: Malefics are fine, Yugioh itself has just become dogshitt spam summons for sweaty virgins. Malefics didn't fail, Yugioh did.
id like to add from personal experience that kaiju decks can use malific end dragon, either to rank 10 with the star destroyer kaiju or as lnk materials.
