    If you’re on a budget, I got a Presto Dehydro and a Ziploc vacuum sealer back in 2017 and they still both work great. I’ve since graduated to a medium size Harvest Right home freeze dryer but I still use my Presto and Ziploc system. I’m fixing to process a “ton” of veggies.

    I bought this dehydrator also and absolutely love it! The first one was dented terribly when it arrived and I returned it. I have been using it non stop for over 6 months with no issues at all. I bought the silicone sheets to be able to use the entire space on the tray. I also bought the solid silicone edged sheets to dehydrate eggs and other liquids. I do wish there were edges on the shelves to hold the food from rolling off when loading in a hurry. I love how quiet it is compared to my Nesco so I use it more. I do baby it because I want it to last a long time.

    Awesome! I really want a freeze dryer whenever I get to own a house and set up a proper long term pantry etc.

    Food is dehydrated/dry when it is done- a snap or crispy sound. Make sure to condition, condition, condition! Never go by a recipes' time schedule. Too many factors can and will change that. It is done when it is done. Here in Texas it can take up to three days with our summer humidity. Patience is the key.

      Hey I know it's been awhile since you posted this video however I have the MFD 1010 with the 11 trays and I was under the impression that it had an interior light kind of like an oven so you could see your dehydrating in progress.. does it in fact have a light? Or no?

    How does this dehydrator compare to your Excalibur? I just got an Excalibur on your suggestion and I want to make sure I got the best item, I could have bought 3 Magic Mills in place of my Excalibur. Did I make the right choice?

    Hi, A.G., I bought an Excaliber 4-tray dehydrator maybe two summers ago, and used it for the first summer. BUT, as I am extremely low income from injuries (on Disability), living in a sibling"s house where I am NOT able to fully pay my own share, and haven't beeen able to work for a decade +, I am afraid to use it again due to potential costs (and have had much own-grown & store -bought produce go bad as my injuries/ reluctance to "use more energy" precluded my use of the dehydrator 😟)
    Would you be able to give us a rough guide as to how much more it cost you to use your dehydrator for your purposes - of course, recognizing that the actual cost will vary by location/ usage? Other newbies might find that helpful, too. And, yes, I realize that you won't know until you receive your electric bill a month or two-three later..
    Thank you for considering this. And, thanks again for your vids - they are very helpful for many of us. Cheers!

      Hi K, I also have Excalibur dehydrators. To calculate how much it costs to dehydrate food look up a couple of numbers. 1. How many watts does your dehydrator use? Let’s say yours is a 450 watt unit. 2. How long does your food take to dry? Let’s start with 10 hours as an example. 3. How much do you pay for electricity? We pay 10¢ a kilowatt hour (1000 watts). In my case, for an answer in cents, 450 watts divided by 1000 will tell us how many kilowatts our machine uses, which is .450 kilowatts. We are running it for 10 hours, so 10 hours X .450 = 4.50 kilowatt hours. Now multiply that by your electricity bill rate. Ours is 10¢ so 10X 4.50= 45 ¢ it’s pretty cost effective to dehydrate food! The cheapest days will be the hottest, driest days. If it’s cold in the house or raining outside it can take twice as long to dehydrate food. On the other hand, if you are running a swamp cooler it can take longer too. Also the warm air put out by the dehydrator can make air conditioners work harder too. I hope AG doesn’t mind me answering this question. I’ve done it before on another site and had the answer on the top of my head.

      @@nancyst.john-smith3891 Hi Nancy, THANK YOU! I will try to do this. When we got our electric bill, I had a huge jump in usage when I used it, but, I was also using my new seed-starter lights & seed warming mats, and so have been afraid to use ANY of them since due to this. All three devices were supposed to be low energy usage, but that was not what showed up in our bill. 😱 Cheers, and thanks for answering/ explaining for myself & others!

      I have always had round dehydrators and my latest one has a fan, and I would never go without one again! My mesh trays get used all the time for most items, actually.The fruit roll up ones get used for eggs and very small pieces of vegetables.

    If you dehydrate frozen veggies and fruits they are already pre-prepped for you. Just dehydrate!!!!

    • @dalegaa4094
      @dalegaa4094 2 роки тому

      Yes, all you have to do is spread them out on the trays. I've done a lot of them and it's a real time saver done that way. There are often sales on store brands of most frozen veggies too so very economical. The green beans however don't dehydrate well. There were some in a veg mix I did.
