    Hi! Mainer here! So there are lots of places in the mid coast to easily launch kayaks. I think it was def a lack of local knowledge. Also the abundance of boat launches is due to costal Maine being a working fishing community. People need to be able to get their boats in and out during off seasons for repairs or what not and put them back in to make a living. Though there is an abundant kayaking community, accessibility for kayaks is a second thought.
    Lobster rolls, way way over priced and ridiculously overrated. However. Moodys in Waldoboro is a must!
    My husband has been watching your videos avidly here as he’s wanting to get back into kayaking (hard to do in Ecuador) and he’s loving your channel. We hope you enjoyed Maine.

    The Kayak Shop LL Bean is nothing like what we have here in the UK, You could fit a good few of our Shops into that one Shop. As an Englishman I got Kayak Shop Envy. We don't have the same level of places that we can overnight in legally here either. Which is in some places getting better, but at a cost to say at, or they have removed places where people have camped overnight. Probably due to the mess that some think is fine to leave their rubbish lying around. We have plenty of Campsites but they tend to be more expensive, AS a Kid when we went camping you would never see a Campervan on a Campsite as they would pull up in nice places to stay and then move on. With the Increase in Numbers you now see a lot of Campervans and Motorhomes on Campsites which in away goes against what they were designed to do.
    Great Video once again.

      Thanks @diggerbucket yeah that was a super nice shop, you don't normally see such selection of high end boats at a big store like that.. You normally have to go to a specialty store.

    I enjoyed this video very much. We are new to Kayaking and plan to explore this area a lot...At the LL Bean Flagship store you showed a graphic saying most people are buying these....Not These and pointed to a Current Designs Kayak...What did you mean/ what do you think the reason is? I'm asking because I actually visited that store in July and purchased 2 of those specific Current Design Kayaks, which I feel are the most perfect boats I could have found for me and my wife and the paddling we intend to do

    • @AdventureOtaku
      @AdventureOtaku  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I was walking past a row of recreational kayaks (what most people buy) and then pointing towards a mere 3 touring/sea kayaks (what fewer people buy.) The vast majority of new paddlers today buy rec kayaks or fishing kayaks, and I did a video a week ago called “the sea kayak problem” which you should check out. You bought great boats, super excited for you. And jealous you live close to such epic paddling.

    Been watching you paddle for sometime and appreciate all the post. I live in MD and paddle the Chesapeake bay a lot. I’m looking to move to Maine just for the kayaking! So happy you made a serious and informative post on kayaking M. My Focus is to move to the town of Eastport and kayak. But kayaking coastal Maine is not easy paddle like the bay.
    Questions >
    1# is that where you were kayaking - near Eastport? Cus you said the most east you can get.
    2# why no drysuit? Sea Temps 55degrees?
    3# why didn’t you talk about the Maine Island trail- I hope next weeks video is all about that!
    If you are ever down in Maryland and want to kayak the Bay - reach out.

      Hey, thanks for stopping by, in reverse order. #3, I didn’t do anything specific about the Maine Island trail. That’ll be my next trip up there. Probably spring. #2 No drysuit because the conditions were so bloody benign. I knew I wasn’t going to be on the water very long… it’s a judgement call. #1 VERY close to Eastport. Cobscook Bay. Amazing paddling, you will love it. Watch the tides/currents.

    Now and again I consider swapping out my boat.. but I don’t think I ever will.. it’s the “Range Rover of Kayaks” and with what I do I can’t imagine anything that could do it better. Maybe weigh half as much.. lol but doing better? Don’t know

    Super curious about your opinion on wildland kayak camping in Maine? By wildland I mean bushcraft camping off the beaten kayak path, not in specifically designated kayak camp spots but more hidden, low impact bushcrafty type places you can find for yourself someplace. Do you have a feel for the relative level of cultural acceptance for that kind of thing with your kayak travels in Maine? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this please? Thanks!😁

    • @AdventureOtaku
      @AdventureOtaku  Рік тому +1

      Sorry, I don't have a real feel for it having only paddled there a few times. In general I am okay (super common in Alaska) with it as long as you are out of sight and follow LNT..But as to specifics for Maine, I can't say.

    • @kevincasey2947
      @kevincasey2947 Рік тому

      @@AdventureOtaku OOS & LNT are a given of course, that's the whole purpose of it. I've been all over SE Alaska so I absolutely get it.
      I super trust your opinion. If you would be willing to explore this a theme in the back of your mind as you kayak travel and possibly converse with others about coastal exploration around Maine and offer an honest assessment of your thoughts on the topic, I'd greatly appreciate it!
      Sincerely,
      Kevin
