I have to admit I love this song for the Lovely Angels (aka the Dirty Pair) just as much as the Nakahara Meiko opening and closing songs she did for the 1985 TV anime.
In terms of melody, the first line of each verse reminded me of "I Wanna Have Some Fun", as performed by Samantha Fox in the late 1980s. Speaking of the '80s, someone commenting on "By Yourself" noted that in a lot of US pop of that decade, the composers found room for a saxophone part.
