- The Blindfold solving videos of Vidit Gujrathi have been inspiring for one and all. Usually after a tournament ends and both Vidit and Sagar are at the same venue, Vidit takes out time for a session of solving without the chess board! This time IM Sagar Shah prepared 5 random positions - most of them are from his online games and have tactics which are not too difficult but also not so easy!
Although this is a video, to the improving student we would recommend closing their eyes, or not looking at the video, and just try to solve in your head hearing the audio. This will help you gauge your blindfold solving abilities with one of the best chess players in the world - rated 2727, world no.22!

Sometimes I forget the level of Vidit and consider him as a normal streamer/UA-camr.
But he is one of the best in the world in terms of chess.
This is more difficult that one imagines.
Yes, its blindfolded - We all know how difficult that is with so many pieces on the board but..
Sagar doesnt mention what the aim is. Whether its to checkmate or to force a draw. That makes it so much harder.
But above all, the fact that Vidit did while hungry and waiting for his food at the restaurant deserves a standing salute.

Amid the constant noise in background, he could visualize and be accurate almost all the time. Simply amazing !!!
I can't just believe how anyone could be blindfolded and could visualize so well. I guess it's common for most of the GM's.. Unlike us :(

Vidit is a great talent. Chess is very competitive and difficult field. Many talents such as Parimarjan couldn't take the pressure and left. Vidit doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. Ghar ki murgi daal barabar wala scene hai..
true, chess is brutal and vidit deserves so much praise. being number 2 in a big country is amazing. side note: i think gm parimarjan wrote some books too in the past.

The main struggle with the blindfold is to visualise and retain it and then solve it took me around 1 min to find nb6 c4 with idea of a4 without blindfold but once vd gets where all the pieces are he just solves it like a normal tactic as if it doesn't matter it's a blindfold tactic or a normal tactic it's because he is playing chess for 2 decades

How....how....how....do you chess masters do it? Is it the sharp memory or is there a trick to it? I have watched such blindfolded puzzles many times on chess base india but everytime I'm flabbergasted! How do I achieve this feat?

I tried this blindfolded. First one I got it in 4mins.
2nd i thought Nd5, Bd3 Bxg5, Bxa6 Nxc7, Rxc7 Rxa6, Ndxf7 and it's not so clear. I calculated other lines with Nd5 but can't make it work. I missed Ra7
3. They told Nb4 before I could pause
4. Found it in 2min
5. Found in 3 min
One thing I realised is that it is easier to visualise if pawns are said first, then the pieces.
