- Ahoy team, this week I find myself in some mahi mahi madness! Turns out the fastest growing fish in the ocean is also the hungriest! My original plan of attack was to chase wahoo, but as I quickly found out the day belonged to marauding dolphinfish! This will forever go down as one of my best days of pelagic fishing yet! I hope you enjoy the episode!

Ohhhh I miss the times when we had boat. Just an idea, Sam, to broaden your viewers. Instead of tackling on your own, why don't you introduce some kinds of conditions or competitions, etc, where your viewers can have an opportunity to go out with you on your boat? Buy something from your merchant or any one of your sponsors and have a chance of going out on an adventure or at least a day out.?

Yo Sammy we tagged a Mahi here in Destin Fla and re caught him 14 months later and he had grown a full 18”s bigger! Thats a crazy growth spurt. But I agree they are the fastest growing fish in the ocean. I’ve seen it with my own eyes😎

@ I dont know what the hell they do but I know they grow like crazy! I have always heard from old timers that Mahi are the fastest growing fish in the ocean. So it must be true!🤷♂️. I do know I love catching AND eating them though!😎
@ plus Sammy when you catch one leave it on for a few mins before bringing it on deck. It will usually bring more in trying to figure out whats going on. And then you can easily catch them with a light rod with a lure or live bait!🤟😎
@ yes they are just a eating machine mate! I have never seen a faster growing fish in all my yrs. They say here in Fla they grow a foot per year. But I believe they grow 18”s per year. The biggest I’ve ever caught was a monster bull in Cabo Mexico that was 62” inches and approx 57 lbs but it was yrs ago and I got very lucky. It def was a trophy fish that I will treasure but most I now catch are much smaller and more plentiful!😎

Mahi Mahi is one of my favorites to eat, them and Cobia. Dont get me wrong i love eating tuna, wahoo, swordfish and many other species.

Hey mate! Thanks very much glad you enjoy them! The time usually changes every trip depending on what I’m trying to do. But sometimes can be pretty early! 3:30am sort of thing in summer 😬😬

squash the barbs Sammie way beasier to release fish and you dont lose any if you keep tight lines and if you do end up wearing one with dollies well getting it out is not a problem

Around the 11 minutes 50 seconds mark , pretty much as soon as you slow right down because of the bite, we can hear a squeaky noise in the background.
And it seems to have disappeared around the 21 minutes 30 seconds mark.

Usually 70-120 mate. Depending on the conditions and how long I’m out. On a full day I’ve used up to 200L before 🍻🍻
