I think these are the main reasons why they're so succesful.
1. Their PERSONALITY. Personality is one of thing that stands out a LOT. I have read a comment somewhere, she said(wrote) about their humbleness. She some kind of get forced by her friend to go to BTS's first fanmeeting. She could tell that they're humble already. In 2016, she became an ARMY and go to the fanmeeting, she said to them she hope they will become successful one day. In 2019, she goes to fanmeet again, and surprisingly, they remember her, her NAME, what SHE SAID. She said like almost EVERY FRICKIN IDOL changed when fame hit them. But with BTS, she said like they're the same one that she met back in 2013.
2. I've known and listened to Kpop since 2010, and let me tell you, songs that are not about relationships and love are quite few. Sure, there are songs about loving yourself and not to care what other people said, but BTS's songs have DETAILS. Like, in Zero O' Clock, the song message is focused on 'every new day is another chance to improve and fix your mistakes.' Meanwhile in The Truth Untold, they focused on 'how and why you should love yourself first' through a love story. These messages saved hundreds of ARMY from suicide.
3. How they act like they're broke and not millionaires. These bois would fight over FOODS AND COUPONS while they could buy a whole apartment, which to me, is very hilarious and relatable.
4. How they stan ARMY back. They created songs dedicated to ARMY such as 2!3! And Moon. They always mention about ARMY as their source of success. (Bonus: ARMY also created a song for them, titled 'Borahae'( I purple you)
5. The company. I've known pretty much depression stories suffered by idols and trainees and rumors about what makes company (example) bad. Bighit is pretty open and have less strict rules. Also I think Bang-PD is a great guy, since the boys love goofing around and make jokes about him. So there are less arguments and rumors about the Bighit.

RM was listening to music as he was writing his speech and he constantly prepared for it too. It's really interesting if you want to see who they are if their music isn't your thing cuz I actually liked who they are as people before I warmed up to the music myself.

i experimented with a lot of other groups until now, but i have never seen this much genuine love and appreciation between the members and aimed at the fans before. None of the fandoms i belonged to before felt this genuine and heartfelt.
You can really feel that they love what they do, that they love us, that they truly appreciate the opportunities given to them and that they TRULY understand the meaning of fame to the point they know not to take it for granted and that it will end one day. They talked about very important topics and have explored a very wide range of genres with their 19 albums since 2013 (including Japanese releases). (I’m not even gonna go into just how unbelievably hardworking they are, they gift us free songs FOR THEIR OWN BIRTHDAYS GDI).
So to answer your question, i think those are what the other groups lack and why BTS grew so much. They lack the love, dedication, the variety of genres and a good message.

What makes them kind of different from other groups is for one, the Bangtan Universe which is shown and explained in different BTS MV, in BTS Highlight Reel, in their Manwha etc. Trough the fictional Story of Bangtan Universe, Army makes theories of the story of the Bangtan Universe. Which is most surprising of the story, how long it actually was planned...
Also what you kind of mention is that they but also their songs are kind of relatable like No more Dream, No, Spine Breake..
Also in my opinion, they seems really humble, they have a great chemistry etc. you can see this through their Bangtan Bombs, their videos their they hold conversation but also through their YT Red series Burn the Stage. It shows the behind the scene of BTS Tour..
BTS Concept are kind of unique, like Map of the Seoul which is based of a philosophy book.. Blood Sweat and Tears is inspired of the Book Demian.. Through BTS, army kind of learn a lot to understand BTS concept..
These reasons may explain BTSs success!

I think they also seemed more "real" than other groups. Often K-pop stars are expected to present as a perfect glamorous being - which might make people desire or admire them, but does not make them relatable. We are human beings with faults after all. Even though in the beginning BTS also had some kind of concept the members were supposed to follow, they and Bighit decided that the members should for the most part rather be themselves and not present a completely different persona to the world. And so we got vlogs with RM's clumsiness and thoughtful side, Suga sleeping whenever and whereever and everyone just basically being the huge crackheads (metaphorically obviously) that we all love. BTS were not the only ones to show their more human side, but older generations of K-Pop and, depending on the company, even today idols still have to fit a certain mold and are not always allowed to express themselves. Hope this helps. :) And yeah Dave, Vlive is basically random vlogs combined with variety shows. ^^ Oh and BTS even streamed their concert at Wembley via Vlive. Which was an absolutely amazing show - so much for the performance part. :)

Hi! I used to be a BTS fan before all the fame kicked in, and I'd like to answer your question! So at that time, not many kpop bands had such deep/meaningful concepts and so well thought. I joined in the blood sweat and tears era, and if you watch the MV, it's just so beautiful and mysteriously interesting. Then they had this concept of videos of each member representing something all connected together with really emotional stories based on a book, I can't remember which book but all of it was so mysterious and intersting. It's what made them stood out

RM on VLIVE, every time there is an album release actually goes through every song and explains their detailed meaning & which members contributed to each song. That’s what’s different. They create most of their content/greatly contribute to the end results of what they do. Media, Weverse, songs, dance routines, TV, VLIVE etc. Each album has a structure as well. I can’t count on my hands the korean entertainment partners that actually allow this to happen with their groups. They control almost everything they do, unfortunately, and they grind their stars into stardust. Literally. Look up Kris from EXO (and why half of EXO is actually missing)
