After running around all day and breaking a wood burning kit I watched this video and it took me 5 minutes to cut my box after that. Videos like this save lives.
Yes! I’m not using it for a litter box, but I need to cut holes in the sides or tops of storage bins and I always painstakingly would use my wood burner to melt out the hole!
Also you can use a pool noodle around the edges. That’s what I did with mine and the ones the dollar store are the best because they sell them year-round even in cold climates states and there’s a smaller ones which snug better.
I'm thinking about making an outdoor shelter for any wildlife and was wondering if there was a better way to cut plastic - so glad I found your video on the first try! Now to find straw. Thank you!
Great video. Followed your instructions to a tee but used a heating torch and did a great job. Our Farrell kitten has now grown to be about 3 months old and he makes a big mess with kicking the litter out of his litter box. I hope this helps with that issue..Thank you for explaining it so well. Good Bless.
I was trying the heated knife and broke 2 scissors. Your video was AWESOME and worked perfectly. I worked slowly as you said . I'm so happy . Thank you soooo much
Wonderful video! Thank you! I'm making a hedgehog feeding box, and not one of the how-to videos comes anywhere near this. And we don't all have the sophisticated equipment commonly used in these videos. I have used my hair dryer and made a perfect square hole in less than 5 minutes.
Great idea....was looking for my heat gun, found my rotary tool + cutoff disc.....very simple way to cut and melt at once! Needed to debur the melted cut bits with sandpaper...thanks for the loop - good inspiration!
That's a great idea to use the hairdryer to soften the plastic before cutting!!! I've been thinking you and hope everything is going well with the new RV. 😊😸
I’m here because I have bunnies and I need something easier than my version of this. I held an Xacto knife in a candle flame and it took me about an hour. 🙄 your way is so much better! Especially the tape! Thank you! I have a car & house bunnies. Will be using this for a few things!
Thank you!! One elderly cat has arthritis so its hard to step in and she can't always get low enough to avoid getting urine outside. Hard to find a low entry box with high sides
Thank you!!! This was exactly what I needed!!! I just broke the heck out of my more expensive tub trying to cut it after my cat didn't like it and wouldn't use it :(
Have a 12lb cat that uses the litter box, but often pees high. So, at least 18 inches high necessitates a large tote, which any large cat should be afforded. I bought a cheap dremel at Walmart to cut out a U-shaped opening. My "over-pee-er" problem has been solved. We're talking potentially 20 years of life for this cat, so a tougher tote and dremel were worth the money. No top for Lars.
This is super helpful- thanks so much! I got a cat enclosure for one of our litter boxes and the pan I got to go in it is just a hair too big and I don’t want to go thru the hassle of returning so I thought I could just cut it down to fit nicely…. I’ll be doing this later today…
Youre the best! Sorry haven't been watchin much. Don't know if seen any comments on your Hubby's posts but Ive had a 2nd stroke n fall. My mental n physical health has been poor. Hope you n them kitties are well. Love yas. Xoxo
Thanks for video. Our cats have used that kind of container with no cut out. I'm thinking we should do this. As they get older they won't be able to jump over. What about a whole box that is only 4 or 5". Will they just throw litter all over the place? They spread the litter even with a tall box. Thanks all.
I've never seen anyone else do this! I thought of it years ago when my male cat would stand up to pee in the box and I was constantly cleaning the WALLS. (gross!) I needed a tall litter box and the one I bought had a seam running around the middle which allowed the urine to leak out. Double gross! So I came up with this idea and it completely solved my problem. Wish I had had your vid to show me how to do it properly - I destroyed three bins before getting one to work!
You just saved me from spending about $45 on a jigsaw that I will only use once. Now...I know I have a hairdryer SOMEWHERE... [I live in Florida and have wash & go hair!]]
Had a delay in getting the RV, they won’t have it ready till Tuesday. I will have one day to get it ready for 2.5 of travel with the 5 of us and the cats. 🤦♀️
@@CatToyLady Oh good. No rush then. 🤪 I hope the cats don’t get rv sick. 😊 My son uses Apple Air Tags on the pets collar if they get lost while traveling. I’d be terrified one of my cats would sneak out the door. Have a safe trip. 🐈🤗
In your title you mentioned Rubbermaid, but said Sterilite in the video. I tried using the Sterilite shallow containers 4" to 6' deep, IIRC.. Total fail. They would crack after the first 3-5 cleanings. (No, I did not cut them or hit them). I concluded it was likely something in the cat urine that caused the plastic to become brittle. (Chemical reaction between the ammonia and the composition of the cheap plastic, I think ? I am not a chemist.) I have the same breakage problems with their other containers too. I suspect it's the chemical composition of the plastic. They also seem to fail if they freeze and are dropped. They then have shattered on me. A nail file can smooth the edges of the plastic too. Rubbermaid is IMHO, a vastly superior product, even if it's more expensive.
I have used the sterilite for years as litter boxes. I’ve been lucky that they have been holding up. After about a year, I do make new ones, they seem to hold a stinky smell once they get too scratched. I choose these since they are clear. Having visibility can help in multi cat houses with not having urine behavior issues.
I'm looking for a DIY Solution to storing cat wands.. Since you're the cat toy lady - I was wondering how you store your cat toys? Is there a better way because all my wands get in a tangled mess and I can't find any easy / cheap solutions. (Also you should put a DIY Tag on your videos or in the title so more people like me can find your stuff!)

"Remember cats don't want to feel like they are in a tight confined space" meanwhile cats be like "I wonder if I fits in that matchbox" 🤣
Tight areas while going to the bathroom, do you like airplane bathrooms?

Great tips for cutting any plastic! Whether it's for your homemade kitty litter box, or any other DIY project. 🙂👍
Imagine finding the exact video i needed on the first try! ❤ thank you!
Same.

This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you!!!!
This worked perfectly! Thank you so much for an easy, straightforward tutorial
Can also use a dry erase marker to remove sharpie (permanent) marker. If you ever grab the wrong one by mistake ; )

This was so helpful and took 10mins to do! I also sanded down the edges

Thank you so much ! For some reason using the tape made it much easier!
Bonus point for not letting the square plastic fall too !
Thank you so much !
Omg you just saved my life😭‼️ im making a bin cage for my little rats and I don't have a heat gun. Thank you so much for this tip❤️
Thank you for this video. Worked like a charm!

Thank you!!!!
Thanks, will use these tips to cut off some organizer sections on a small tackle box.
So helpful! Thank you!!! Making an outdoor kitty shelter
Thank you! I didn't want to use a torch on my knife, so a blow dryer on the box is a great suggestion!
Thank you so much for this genius hack

MANY THANKS!! You've helped me solve a big problem!
Great video. Going to put a small round hole in a plastic tub to expand a hamster enclosure and this will work just fine. 👍
Good video. Thanks!

Excellent idea. I will try this today. Now where is that hairdryer?
i ruined 3 tubs trying to do this before i found your video!!! thank you so much!! 🤣🤣

This! I was about to buy one also! Thankfully, I found this video!!
Extremely good idea. I wondered how people cut holes in totes. I was thinking of using a hacksaw but the utility knife is much better.

Thank you!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!
Bless you for this video
Kept thinking I was hearing my cats while watching this 🤣
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank. You.
I wish I decided to look this up before my plastic snapped and cut my hand lmao
You’re so sweet 💖
Thank you!!
Thanks soooo much!
I need to cut mine to put my glass grinder in, I'm just starting out and didn't buy one with the splash guard. My mistake, so this is my $7 fix!

Interesting alternative method.
"Alternative method": what is the other method (supposedly the reference method)? And does it work even better that what is shown in this video?
@@freedomfighter5222 What's shown in the video is okay. I prefer to use an oscillating tool with a grout blade attachment. It's faster, in my opinion.
Smart 🤓 thank you

I sure do wish I had watched this before trying to use a Dremel. What a mess AND it cracked the container. 🙄
I need tape 😢
wish i watched this before ruining the box…
Que aburrido mucho bla bla
Thank you, so glad you liked it. 😄
You talk to much- CUT DOWN ON THR TALKING LADY-
It’s an instructional video, talking is the point of it.
