Well, I’m glad you love it and I love it, too. It’s astonishing how good Jon’s voice sounds after nearly leaving us in 2008. However, all that being said, the classic era Yes touring in the early 2000’s did almost apocalyptic renditions of Awaken. I was privileged to see several of them. Among the highlights of my life. That band, doing this, as well as And You And I, and others were irreproachable. Finest live band ever to reach my eyes and ears.
@@frankhoulihanfh4972 I must say the best Awaken I saw live was 1977 when it was brand new. Also on that tour, they did a Close To The Edge that was grungy. I haven't heard that song played that way since. That concert was my first Yes show, and I'll never forget the way they played those two songs. What a show.
I think this is probably the best version of Awaken ever. I want to have this played at my funeral - and anyone who doesn't listen to it all will be disinherited! ;-)
Maybe you noticed...Jon's body, hand and arm movements capture all the "odd" rhythms within the song that are normally missed. You can see it on this and any live Yes show. Enjoy! With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
So, from this concert is something better "State of Independence". this version change my life. The best version of this song, much better than version With Vangelis. Greetings from Poland
Yeah, YES may have saved my life also. "Like the time I ran away...turned around and you were standing close to me". We are here cheering for you, Lee. Persevere.
Anderson once said in an interview that of all the classic epics Yes did in the 70s, he considered "Awaken" to be the one that achieved true perfection. And I can see that, even if I'm more of a "Close to the Edge"/"Gates of Delirium" kinda guy.
This has to be the most covered, watched, discussed, reacted-to cover performance ever. But this performance was the thing that shut up all the doubters who said Jon could never come back from his illness and perform at the level he once had. It was then, "OK Chris (he was still with us when this was recorded) and Steve -- what's the deal?"
Sorry I wasn't here for the premiere. I had to run some errands. 😊You know how I look forward to Yesaturdays! I enjoyed your reaction as always, my friend, and the little chat afterwards. "Awaken" is one of those songs, where even after 40 odd years of listening to it, can still elicit strong emotions, and spirituality. And there's times where it still has the power to move me to tears. This was one of those times. Todmobile really does the song justice and Jon was really feeling it. 🙏 High vibration go on/To the sun, oh let my heart dreaming/Past a mortal as me/Where can I be?
Hi lee , as a non religious person myself I find it impossible not to be moved by this song ,it takes you to another place . It’s my go to song when everything in life is falling apart. Keep strong my friend ,Best wishes mate .From another lee in the uk !
“Like the time I ran away, turned around and you were standing close to me…”. That gets me every time. And let those tears flow man, we’re conditioned to think they’re somehow bad, but they cleanse and nurture us.
I'm guessing that you had figured out that this Star Song of Hope culminates with the instrumental representation of the rapture. After all, that stargate event is the blessed hope of all Christians.
@@L33ReactsI feel that the original studio version is the best version because of the way that Steve plays the pedal steel guitar during the crescendo.
You should definitely check out the rest of that concert, it's all on youtube, chopped up into each song, and also I think the whole thing all together. This may have been Jon's best performance ever. make sure to see Jon with The Band Geeks on tour this summer.
‘Oh closely guided plan, awaken in our hearts.’ Breathtaking music to find refuge in. A wonderful performance! Lovely to share it with everyone who feels the same. Thanks Lee.
Congratulations Lee ❤WOOHOO! I'm fortunate to be part of your music family! THANK YOU. Spectacular music, this one. I saw Yes in concert as a 17 yr old pregnant girl. HARD TIMES. One of the best all time bands.
Get Lee to 20K subscribers, folks! Sweat, tears and, ( Due to near misses from falling objects) nearly blood, goes into his videos. Let alone an honesty that is rare to find. Have a great day, Lee! Congratulations for coming this far in two years x
Great arrangement by the guitarist Þorvaldsson. We actually grew up in the same neighbourhood in sub-urban Reykjavík and I had a, not so mutual, crush on his older sister. It was around the same time "Going for the One" was released a little less than half a century ago. I bought that album when it was released and I was totally awestruck by it. I still am.
"State of Independence" with Jon & Todmobile is well worth checking out. The track was originally on Jon & Vangelis _The Friends of Mr. Cairo_ studio album from 1981. It was later reworked by Quincy Jones and presented to Donna Summer, who managed to make a hit out of it. Jon Anderson also reworked the track with an orchestra on his own album, _Change We Must._ (1994)
I’m glad you’re still here, Lee. I happened upon your Close to the Edge reaction and have been a fan of your channel since. You helped me through an emotionally rough winter. Thank you.
Congratulations on your anniversary and nearly reaching 20k. There's a track called "Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh" by a band called Magma, that I know you'd like, for many reasons: the composer and the band's frontman is a guy called Christian Vander, who is the drummer! They are a French prog rock band, with a six piece choir, and a brass section and stunning musicianship. Knowing that he may not find international success writing in French, he invented an entire new alien language, called Kobian, so much of their material, including MDK is not in a recognisable language. HOWEVER, I'm reluctant to recommend it for a reaction for several reasons, not least as it is a 48 minute track, and the only complete live version on youtube is of fairly low resolution (480). Also, I saw them perform this live in the '70's and raved about them so much at work the next day that a colleague went out and bought the album. A few days later he gave me the album as he couldn't stand having it in his house as he hated it so much! It is clearly not for everyone, but I do think that every drummer should get to watch "Mekanik Destructiw Kommandoh" live in Paris at least once. Video is ua-cam.com/video/NoZIXPvHPoY/v-deo.html

Absolutely Stunning! Magical. Goosebumps all the way. Awaken is my all time favourite ’YES’ piece of music. And along with the 2003 performance at Montreaux, this is my favourite Live performance. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this performance. Simply sensational. Saw Jon again last summer, (2023), with the Paul Green Rock Academy and his voice was as incredible as ever. I’ve been lucky enough to have been a ‘YES’ fan since 1971, aged 15. Jon will be 80 this coming October, he’s touring this year in the US with his incredible group of musicians, ‘The Band Geeks’, who he also toured with in 2023.
